The last time I was inside this building was at a quaint French restaurant called the California Cafe. The former Carlisle pediatrician, now photographer, is capturing striking examples of the area, animals, and nature in his art show at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center. My favorite photo is the capture of the majestic eagle. Dr. Rosario's art show ends August 2. Free parking on Saturday at the Comfort Inn parking lot across the street from CALC. No admission fee to view current exhibits at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center.

I couldn't help but notice two oil-on-canvas paintings by the current artist, Sarah Mendez. Currently, Sarah is one of the featured artists and has an exhibition that ends tomorrow, April 2. If you're looking to personalize your home decor, add artwork to help define your personal space. Seven days a week, there is no admission fee for admittance to the Art Association of Harrisburg for a unique art experience. I took a wonderful paint class with a top notch artist to teach us. Her directions were clear, she didn't move too fast, and she was always willing to help. I so enjoyed myself. So much that I'm thinking of taking up classes there. They offer watercolor, acrylic, and oil paint classes. I'm really intrigued by the clay class held in their clay studio on Reservoir Park. The prices are very reasonable too.

Now, looking back, am I ever glad I decided to "take a chance" on her! Joanna is an incredibly good teacher - dependable, dedicated, thorough, responsive, knowledgeable, and caring. In just a short time, I found I had learned so much about the physical and perceptual sciences behind creating art as well as the basic skills and concepts such as atmospheric perspective, color palette choice & planning, color mixing, light and shadow (and their use and rendering), tone, and value ... I could go on and on. She listens well, she provides excellent and responsive guidance, she answers questions directly and clearly, and she delivers intelligent, insightful, and helpful feedback and criticism in a kind and tactful way. Joanna truly seems to be a natural born teacher. I could not be happier with the quality and quantity of instruction she has delivered again and again. She has worked me hard (as I requested she do) and challenged me with each lesson's project, but the learning I have done and the progress I have made in my painting skills in just a few months truly astounds me. I booked a drawing class for my daughter. Everything that I booked indicated that it would run from…read morebeginning of June to mid-August. I go to drop her off last week and was told the class was canceled. So before driving her in again I decided to check online and the remaining classes were all canceled. Evidently their schedule runs different over the summer and they just "cancel out" the remaining classes. I would have never booked had I know it was only 4 classes of someone standing there and watching kids draw. My daughter learned nothing and the teacher was just a glorified babysitter claiming to know art. Very disappointed. Be very very cautious when booking. Read every little thing.
