I chose this site due to the location and other parents recommendations. I was not disappointed. When my child was a toddler the teachers were wonderful helping my son transition in and cry every time I left. They helped him with his feelings and lovingly distracted him. When the vocabulary was lagging they very gently told me and I was able to get him evaluated. Long story short, he impressed everyone with his verbal abilities now. I could have moved him to preK at a public school at age 4 but I am glad I did not. He is now in kindergarten and doing great. I must comment on price and the number of adults per child. I thought the price was reasonable. Education has to be invested in for our children. If you want additional education for your children then you are going to pay a little bit extra. If you don't like it, well sorry to be the first to tell you that our society doesn't value children or women much. If it did, then our teachers would be paid more and our schools would not be dealing with a ratio of 1 teacher to 25 students. I think the job done at the center is completely worth the cost when I was there and now. They got us through very tough times without extra pay. I am grateful for the teachers and staff. I have to say they taught me some techniques as a parent. I will try to get my second child into this center as well.

Though relatively short notice, we had about 3 months to look at our options. As most parents do, we have asked around for recommendations from our friends and my own independent research. Unfortunately, all of those locations were either a capacity or were not accepting children until the following year. We were almost about to give up and just hire a temporary nanny to care for our daughter during work hours when we stumbled upon Little Stars Learn & Play Center. Curious, I called the number listed on yelp/google and the administrator, Ms. Asma, answered. We told her about our situation and that we were looking for a daycare to watch our then 22 month old daughter. She recommended we schedule a tour for just my wife and I to get a feel of the facilities and teachers. The building is very inconspicuous which you kind of hope for obvious reasons, the exterior clean and presentable. Upon entering inside, we were greeted by Ms Asma and introduced us to the facility. We immediately had a positive gut feeling and decided to schedule a day to drop our daughter off for a few hours to get her acclimated. There are two main rooms, one for toddlers (younger kids) and another for older kids (pre-school). We did this for about a week and decided to extend the stay out a few more hours 3 days a week. Ms Asma, Ms Tina and Ms Angel were awesome from the start, they were more than willing to work with our daughter who is very advanced for her age but has a lot of anxiety, particularly struggling with separation anxiety. They were patient with her and helped her transition smoothly to the day to day. Though she still has some anxiety during drop off, our daughter has fun all day and pick-up is night and day, almost no more tears! She eats better at school, plays nicely her friends (classmates) and comes home every day with a new word or phrase. We are eternally grateful for the teachers and staff at Little Stars and our own anxiety has also improved. Finding daycares is very stressful for both parents and kids, and it is a relief we found an awesome one!

Daycare is not easy to find and especially not easy to change so please consider my words as cautionary. Discoveryland USED TO BE a wonderful place until after August 2020. Make no mistake, no facility is perfect. You have to weigh the advantages and disadvantages yourself and consider the impact to your family. I loved this place for 3 years, we made lots of wonderful friends and memories. I never felt as if my kids were mistreated, in danger or neglected until recently. The turnover here is appalling. Kids need consistency. My review is not to take away from the staff who care for the children but, to bring light to the inadequate oversight to Discoveryland. My children were in the Bear and Rainbow room when we finally left. My complaints are mainly with the Bear (2-3 year olds) room. Consistency is so important with small kids, they thrive on having a schedule, reliable routines and familiar faces. The wonderful staff that was in the Bear room left, there were over 7 teacher changes in less than 5 months. The director would not provide additional support to the long tenured teachers so they left and she replaced the head teacher with someone that was not qualified. This replacement teacher was not equipped to deal with rambunctious toddlers and ultimately succumbed to the stress. How do I know this? I was the target of her frustrations one morning when she screamed at me in front of a room of children. Horrifying to be yelled at in front of my children and even more horrifying to imagine her behavior when another adult was not present. I was called to pick up my daughter because her nose was bleeding and she wouldn't let the staff help her. Kids are intuitive and very smart, they pickup on feeling and react to it. My daughter was not comfortable with the teacher and didn't feel safe. Her intuition was spot on. The teachers are not treated as well as they deserve and it shows. Multiple emails over the course of months to the director, administration, pastor, and staff were IGNORED. Not a peep. It wasn't until licensing was called in for violations (of which have been miraculously resolved or found unsubstantiated) that angry parents were addressed in a sad Zoom meeting full of empty promises. All the parents needed was acknowledgment of our frustrations and an open dialogue. What we received was months of ignored emails, excuses and deflection. How does a childcare facility that claims to be cloaked in faith knowingly ignore parents?

We initially found them on Yelp, met with them and felt good about it so decided to give them a try. Turned out it was the best decision we made. Leaving a newborn with someone else is never easy, whether you are a first time parents or not. Jeanette took her time in her busy day to send us pictures and videos of our daughters and let us know how they were doing. If things were a bit hectic during the day she made sure to update us via text or in person during pick up. My girls learned so much at Balsz Family Daycare. Jeanette incorporated learning time in activities such as role playing, singing, reading, arts and crafts and games to name a few. If she noticed something that my daughters needed to improve, she worked with them, told us what exactly she was doing to help them and encouraged us to do the same at home. Jeanette was always open to our suggestions and requests as well. Jeanette prepared healthy homemade meals and snacks (breakfast, mid-morning snacks, lunch and afternoon snacks) daily so we never had to worry about packing food (except bottles and baby food when they were super little). This was a huge plus for us. Our girls were always very happy to see Jeanette and Melina (meeting Melina at Balsz Family Daycare was another huge blessing to us) in the morning when we dropped them off. It truly was their second home. We made the decision to transition our girls to a full time Japanese speaking preschool when they turned 2 to improve their Japanese language skills, but if this school was not an option for us, we would have definitely stayed with Balsz Family Daycare.
