The evening was much more than an art gathering, it truly felt like a community coming together to honor an artist whose work continues to inspire generations. Guests had the opportunity to admire Clark's incredible pieces while connecting over refreshing drinks, great conversations, music, and a warm welcoming atmosphere. The selection was small but enough to contemplate the very best of his art. Also it was free for the public, so it was really a great gesture to the community. One of the highlights was seeing kids engage creatively through hands-on art activities, adding such a meaningful and joyful touch to the experience. And to close the celebration, everyone enjoyed delicious fried fish that perfectly complemented the spirit of togetherness behind the event. A memorable evening filled with art, culture, food, and community. Truly a beautiful tribute to Ed Clark's 100-year legacy.

Another of my stops during Sunday's Progressive Art Brunch, N'Namdi gallery actually served food!…read more Besides a few cool sculptures like a connection of steel rods and a chair shaped like a hand, along with a DJ playing jazzy r&b on the patio, this gallery had a classic soul food brunch - shrimp & grits as well as corn bread - for bites. I was only able to have the bread , but it had a good texture and even slightly sweet. Loved it! The indoor part of the arch space also had a few cool paintings and a dark wood sculpture.

I found parking after about 10 minutes and walked up two blocks to Biscayne. At Biscayne plenty of businesses had set up shop either opening their doors or having tables outside. I walked into several shops and chatted with different vendors. I even scored a cupcake. Definitely a nice way to spend a few hours. I only wish some of the large, national chains would have set up tables outside and I do hope they offered some sort of MiMo discount. I only wish there would have been more interactive activities for kids and adults alike. Additionally, more crosswalks and maybe even re-routing traffic for a couple of blocks would be nice. Although I know with Biscayne that may be a little more difficult. I'm looking forward to seeing this festival mature and attract a large following.

Cinco de MiMo is a 3-day festival in the "historic Morningside neighborhood" which I have been…read moredriving by for over 2 years thinking it was a barren motel-ridden neighborhood. Boy, was I wrong. In case you didn't know, and I had been trying to find out for a while as well, MiMo on BiBo stands for Miami Modern on Biscayne Boulevard. Ohh, yeah. The festival was apparently 50s-themed (which doesn't make sense, but whatever), and there was a parade, a bunch of music all over the place, and my favorite: several restaurants were doing special promotions. These restaurants gave out pretty generous food samples that ranges for free-free-free to about $4 a pop. I'm so glad they did this because I would have hardly stop at any of these restaurants otherwise. I personally tried out samples/food/drinks from Moshi Moshi, Moonchine, the farmer's market, Verdaddy's, and some organic sandwich place that I really wish I remembered the name of because it was AWESOME. Anyway, it was great to see so many people walking around an area that is usually barren or has the random hooker or two. It ain't so bad, y'all! Hopefully they'll keep doing this as there are a lot of great businesses here to make this area what it deserves to be.

To my surprise there was a 2nd talk about Jewish settlers in South Beach. Both were very interesting. I really liked the museum as well, lots of interesting items on display. The building is an old synagogue. They also had an art display. Saturdays it's free and it's a great location for a walk afterwards.

This workshop was not only directed to influencers but also to brands and we learned so much from each other. Now it's easier to understand what do you need to give because now we know what they want from us. They brought the food for us to have dinner from two different places. The workshop price was $35 per person or $25 per person if you're a member of PrSA, who were the organizers of this wonderful event. They do this often and I can't wait for the next one. Thank you so much for everything you did, I learned a lot, and I got to meet wonderful people.

I was pleasantly surprised at the variety and quantity of flowers that there was. The vendors were nice and most of them had fair prices. I had a great time walking around and seeing what the vendors were selling. In the middle of the place, they were some gorgeous flower displays. I bought a few flowers to take home and then had some amazing frozen margaritas at the bar for a decent price. I plan on coming next year to buy more flowers and exploring some more.

I flew in so had to limit the type of plants to smaller ones that can fit in my purse so I can carry them back. Not all vendors ships. It's the last day but this event happens every year in or around January. There were vendors selling containers for orchids and other gadgets and gizmos for growing orchids. Got local artist painted plastic containers and fertilizers in tea bags (slow release). Absolutely amazing experience. There were awards given to different types and sizes of orchids. Worth visiting if you're ever in Miami around the time of festival or better yet come to Miami to attend.

When the Town of Homestead was incorporated on January 27, 1913, there wasn't a town hall where…read morecity officials could meet. The newly formed town decided to use Sistrunk Hall, a wooden building located just west of the 1911 Bank of Homestead. It became the first Homestead Town Hall but it burned down on September 7, 1916. After the fire the Town Council decided to build their own town hall. Miami architect Harold Hastings Mundy was hired to design the building. Mundy was born in 1878 in Ontario, Canada. He worked as the architect for the Dade County School district where he designed Coconut Grove Elementary School, Robert E. Lee Junior High School, and Miami Edison High School. John F. Umphrey who had built a number of buildings in the area was awarded the contract to build the town hall for $4,418.00, doors excluded. He completed the building in 90 days. The lower floor near the front of the building housed the city fire department, fire trucks and a hose-drying room. The rear area held the police station and jail cells. There were four jail cells for men while the jail cells for female prisoners were in a separate building located in back of the Town Hall. Municipal offices, the city's clerk office, mayor's office, and the city council chambers were on the second floor. A small one story addition to the south, at 41 N. Krome Ave., is now used as an entrance to the museum. It was added in 1924 as offices for the County Agricultural Agent and the Redland District Chamber of Commerce. The police and fire departments eventually moved out and the town hall was remodeled in 1956. The jail cells were removed and the bottom floor was turned into office space for the growing city government. The building served as the Town Hall for almost 60 years before it was deemed too small. In 1975, a new city hall designed by Edward M. Ghezzi , was built at 790 N. Homestead Boulevard. The new city hall dedication took place on November 23, 1975. The old town hall was used as a Senior Citizens Center and a State of Florida Department of Corrections, Bureau of Probation and Parole, office. In 1980, the town considered demolishing the building in order to make more room for parking. City council members Irving Peskoe and Ruth Campbell opposed the demolition. Through the efforts of Peskoe and Campbell, $61,000 was donated from members of the community and a State grant of $173,363 was obtained for the restoration of the building. Anyone who donate $250 or more was honored on an "Above and Beyond the Call" plaque mounted on the wall on the left side of the entrance to the Museum. The museum was founded in 1994 through the efforts of Ruth Campbell who had deep ties to Homestead. Her husband was Harold "Pete" Campbell, who was a grandson of Thomas Alexander Campbell, who Campbell Drive is named after. Ruth was a Homestead city councilperson and a vice-mayor. On November 7, 1997, the historic Homestead Town Hall was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. After 23 years of serving on the town council Ruth retired in June of 2017. She passed away on May 7, 2019. The museum contains displays of historical artifacts, copies of photographs of early families and places, a library, and archives open to researchers. There are books by local historians for research and for sale. One of the most popular exhibit is the City of Homestead's original 1924 American LaFrance fire truck, which was restored by private citizens in Tampa Bay. The truck is now back home in it's original building. I love how this historic building was saved and repurposed into a history museum. If you are interested in the history of Homestead, the resources offered here are a great place to start. The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Admission is free.
