The Thalatta Estate was built on the shore of Biscayne Bay in the early 1900's by the Connett family. It is located on a parcel of land south of the Charles Deering Estate. It is believed to have been built between 1925 and 1930. Thalatta is a Latin variation of the Greek word thalassa meaning the sea. The buildings on the estate were built by the owner Fred Alan Ford Connett and his hired help. Only a two story residence and carriage house remain today. The house was designed in the Mediterranean Revival style that was popular during Florida's land boom years. One of the most striking features of the home is a three story tower. The owner built it to look out to the bay over the vegetation that once existed at the back of the property. Outside, the house has a red clay tiled roof, stucco walls, round archways, and wrought iron elements. Inside the house there is a wrought iron stairwell, carved wood doors, and decorative tile floors. The Connett's lived in the home for 20 years before selling it in 1945 when they could no longer get help to run the estate because of WWII. George C. and Pasqualina Peterson purchased Thalatta and lived in it for the next 30 years until Pasqualina's death. While they owned it the property they sold off some of the land so that is now 3 and a half acres and they removed the plants in the back. They also built a pool in 1955 that was believed to be one of the first private pools in south Miami. Two other families went on to own the property. Thalatta suffered significant damage in Hurricane Andrew in 1991 as well as in hurricanes in 2000 and 2005. Thalatta is one of the few remaining homes in this area from that time period. The village of Palmetto Bay purchased this home in 2005 with a grant from Trust for Public Lands. They have since restored it and rent it out for private functions, mainly weddings. The house is left unlocked with the air conditioner running. You can tour the home free of charge. All of the period furniture has been removed but there is some modern pieces to keep people comfortable when they are renting the house. On the first floor is a small museum of sorts with displays and photographs relating the history of the area. This is a beautiful house and the grounds are lavishly landscaped. The unobstructed view of Biscayne Bay National Park is stunning. It is easy to see what attracted the first residents to this area and what is still attracting people who want to celebrate their weddings today.

Finally after almost four months trying I got the chance to go and do Yoga this past Sunday. The class was free, on the grass, and under the shade of beautiful trees, this place has. I loved the experience and the gorgeous view in here. They were setting up for a wedding reception and I can just imagine how beautiful it will be. Check out my pictures!

Beautiful and frequent chosen location for weddings and other receptions. Back lawn waterfront. Front has a stunning circular. All this makes for a perfect party...at least the beginnings of one. Today when I pulled up I was fortunate to see a wedding party getting ready to start. I had to move in stealth mode as I enjoyed the grounds. Did not go inside. From what I've read about this estate tho, the highlights are outside. Estate is opens for viewing daily until 5pm. Nice little diversion on a casual day of touring.

    Right before the party!

I had my wedding here and I could not be more happy with that decision taken. Besides the beautiful venue, the person that made the difference was Vanessa. She is not just so clear and helpful, she is prompt and kind even stress relieving. She understands your situation, she is alert and there for every bride, I am witness to this because I've always seen her working hard with a bride when I've stopped by for help too. The security work there and the attention from the venue is 100% exceptional. I would only recommend maybe adding a drying machine somewhere. This venue is gorgeous but for weddings outside if you don't have a tent rented, you're running a risk. With a Dryer present, it would help the event people dry the materials quick incase it gets soaked on before the wedding begins. In moments of desperation with no tent as a back up plan, a bride would pay to use this choice if it were available :) besides that I honestly loved being here. My husband loved it, everyone loved it so much. This venue has it's 3 beautiful points during the day: the daytime garden, you see so much nature and elegance, the relaxing and breath taking sunset sky you receive at twilight. The sky turns pink and blue and birds fly by the ocean. And then at night, you have the romantic intimate feeling with the lights the offer. So amazing! 5 stars well earned. Thank you again Vanessa, you and Thalatta together are a beautiful memory of the journey towards my wedding!

I usually come here for Christ Fellowships' sunrise Easter service and it's always a beautiful experience. I found on FB that Palmetto Bay was offering free yoga classes on the bay and I quickly signed up! How exciting! Although it was a rainy day, the instructor and the class was just what I needed. The sound of the water and the breeze was just breathtaking! Be sure to check on their website and FB events for more details on some of their free events coming up. It's also great for any special occasion.

    Dedication plaque on the estate.

What a beautiful, waterfront historic estate! Built in the Mediterranean Revival style in the early 19th century, it offers amazing, panoramic views of Biscayne Bay. The two-story home was designed and built by the Connett family, and sits on more than four acres. It was acquired by the Village of Palmetto Bay in 2005. There are lovely archways, red clay-tiled roof, windows with iron work, and a beautiful carved stone fireplace. The tile work inside the home is lovely, and no longer seen in homes. The Thalatta Estate is a popular wedding location, considering its location on the bay, its pretty gardens, terraces, and the lovely home serving as a great backdrop for photographs. Because it seems to be mostly a place to hold private events, unfortunately, for those looking for historically furnished homes, there isn't much to see here, other than the waiting room on the first floor, which contains the fireplace, couches, chairs, and a table. The second floor has been reserved for brides and their family to prepare for weddings, so what you will see is just a floor-length mirror, couches, and sofa chairs. Admission is free, so I guess you cannot be too picky, but it'd be nice if like the Deering Estate and Vizcaya, the home were furnished and decorated in the period style while still serving as a wedding location. The more people are exposed to history and architecture, the more cultured they will become, and the more interested they may become in learning about South Florida's history.

Thalatta Estate has the charm of old Miami, with a stunning views...ceremony by the water is breathtaking I love the breeze off the ocean and the blue sky water backdrop, it provides a terrace big enough to hold 200 guest, beautiful landscape with some tropical areas They have their own kitchen on site which is great for caterers and they also have a bridal/groom suite on site. Overall the place is ideal for an outdoor wedding that provides a romantic vintage/rustic feel, It's always a pleasure to work here! for more pictures and ideas visit http://www.eventplannersinmiamibroward.com/#!blank-1/c1qn7

But it was pleasantly nice on this evening - I'd assume because of all the nice breeze coming off the bay (and it was a little cloudy during the day).

They have conference rooms and a very cozy shared lounge area that works great if you are visiting with clients and discussing possible business opportunities or internal business meetings. There is also a coffee station, vending machines and microwave station available in the kitchen if you would like some coffee for yourself and your customers. As a customer, Phillip and I have had some nice conversations over a free cup of coffee or a hot latte which is always great. They begin the classes very close to the exact time and finish right on the dot. We began with Olga who was just great! She explains all the steps in detail, does a lot of repeats and watches to see how you progress. She was the perfect beginner instructor for us and we enjoyed her very much. After a few lessons with Olga, we began to learn coupled combinations that Bobby always watched for technique to move us into the group dancing. The group classes are run very well. Lots of mirrors and loud call-outs so you can keep up in the warm-up. Then they have several instructors including Bobby that teach and monitor all the dancers for the entire class. If you are interested in learning some basic salsa dancing or you want to get advanced lessons in New York style salsa, I would highly recommend A PARTY HALL. They are excellent in the beginner classes as well as challenging you to perform in the couple group dancing. I did notice the regular pricing and would still choose them without a groupon discount.

Looking back now, choosing Vista Lago was one of the best decisions we made because they made the entire process feel so easy, seamless, and genuinely enjoyable from beginning to end. One of the biggest highlights was having a day-of coordinator INCLUDED in the package. Since she works directly with the venue, she knew absolutely everything top to bottom -- the timeline, vendors, setup, flow of the evening, and every behind-the-scenes detail. We never had to answer questions, solve problems, or stress about what came next because she already had everything handled before we even thought about it. We truly got to be fully present and enjoy our wedding day. The staff also went above and beyond all night long. They continuously brought us hors d'oeuvres, drinks, dinner, and cake so we actually got to enjoy all the amazing food during the wedding. At the end of the night, they carefully packaged all of our leftovers and even saved the top of our cake for us before we left. Those thoughtful details meant so much to us. The venue was beautiful, the service was incredible, the pricing was fair, and there were no surprise fees or last-minute issues. Everything was transparent, organized, and handled with so much care. From our first phone call to our 3+ hour "quick meet and greet', to our wedding weekend was just the highlight and spark back into our celebration. When we initially started planning, we had a different caterer. 7 months in, we had no kind of menu, no communication and just felt unheard and unseen. Then the best thing happened! We got introduced to LJ's Catering. ONE PHONE CALL! That's all it took! 20 minutes of a late evening, and we were over the moon! The spark was back into our celebration. We had the menus pretty much decided - everything came together in just mere minutes! The hard part was, watching all the videos of food that were being sent to us that night and not being able to eat everything right then and there. The constant communication, the constant out pouring of love from LJs truly shined. Finally, our celebration time came! We started off the weekend with the Pig Roast BBQ - And brisket! Must have LJ's Brisket! Saturday, we had red snapper, jerk chicken and much more! Sunday morning was the perfect relax, chill, unwind and Brunch! Not only did their love shine through for us, the couple - but it flowed to every one of our guests! Everyone to this day continues to talk about the food, and LJs! Everything was truly amazing! In the moment, everything is flying, and time loses itself - however Lisa and Ump of course were watching and ensuring that we took the moment to sit down and eat! "Don't try to ignore them, it won't happen!" We can't say enough nice things about LJ's and their staff. We truly feel like they're now a part of our family!
