I've been to this bakery a few times now and I gotta say I keep coming back for the pecan mini cookies! The staff here is so nice and always friendly apon walking in and that's always a plus to me for any establishment. I'm not the biggest fan of all there products here being I've had there donuts and other cookies and just was not impressed. But I do need to say that there little pecan cookies they make are absolutely incredible and packed with flavor. I could easily eat 20 of them little gold mines. Parking is normally pretty easy being it's along both sides of the street and pretty open. This is by far my favorite bakery. The best I've ever been to and they have the best red velvet cupcakes! If you're not into red velvet they have a lot of other options and they're cookies are amazing. Their "breakfast" items go fast in the morning such as danishes, croissants, and donuts so make sure you get there early if you wanna have more of a variety in that category. I'm never disappointed when I come here and everyone is always so friendly! First time experience here. Ordered a birthday cake with half chocolate cake and half white cake, no filling but got something completely different - all white cake with almond filling? I mean at least they spelled everything on the cake correctly and it was pretty to look at but if I wanted a surprise cake I wouldn't have bothered making it a point to call ahead. Plus, when I went to pick the cake up, I ordered my son a sugar cookie and 2 mini cookies for my husband and myself. A go-to establishment with lots of history. Perfect service. One can order breads from other places like the Break Works and it is delivered fresh the next morning for pickup. I always end up letting customers behind me go ahead because I take a long time to finally make up my mind. The burnt almond torte rivals what I have tasted from the famous Prandl's Allegheny County. From cookies to cakes to pastries and breads, this bakery seems to have it all! I was disappointed one Monday to discover that they were closed. I am a bakery fanatic, but against popular opinions, I'm just not a fan of Kretchmar's Bakery. I've been there three times now and still haven't found anything worth while. Although the staff is very nice, the pastries are just bland. All of the cookies taste very similar, which I assume indicates that they are mostly made from similar dough. The M&M cookies, the cookie cutouts, the thumbprint cookies, and many others are just dry to me. They don't have much flavor, which is really disappointing! My friend did say that the turtle cookies are good, but nothing else has stood out to us at Kretchmar's unfortunately. read more

And the cake was delicious!! Great cakes however I was charged twice for my cake. Once when I ordered the cake and once when I picked up the cake. I was told that I did not need my receipt when I ordered it. When I went to pick it up, was told that it was not paid for. I am 100% certain that I paid for it when the order was made.Since it was a Birthday cake for my daughter I had no choice but to pay for it again. We have been ordering cakes off and on for years here. This will be the last time. We ordered a chocolate cake with butter cream icing. It taste stale, doesn't even have a chocolate flavor, and the icing is nasty. Nothing fancy or difficult to make and even the icing decoration was lame for the price. Jesus, this place has quite a cult! All I had to do was mention that I had never been here before. A hush fell over the capacity crowd. "Kid, you are in for a treat. This is the best bakery around," an elder said to me. I thought I was being prepared for a blood sacrifice. Employees and customers alike fell all over themselves to deliver my soul unto Kretchmar's. Facts are facts though, and fact is, Kretchmar's is pretty hunky-dory as far as bakeries go. Let's see, what all did I walk out of there with... 4 Red Velvet Cake Donuts-These came complete with a cream cheese icing that made the donut. The cake donut itself was crunchy on the outside. I don't prefer cake donuts, but these were solidly appetizing, and they were half-off! 3 Chocolate Drop Cookies-Not bad, not bad. They were teeny-tiny little bites of chocodelight. 1 Gourmet Chocolate Chunk Cookie-One mega-cookie was more than enough for me and Kay to split. It was a very good cookie, but wasn't as soft and gooey as I like. Personal preferences aside, this was monstrous and more than pleasing to the sweet tooth. 1 Gourmet Chocolate Madness- Likely the most fearsome looking cookie I've ever beheld. If the Raiders or Norwegian black metalists Dimmu Borgir endorsed a cookie, it would be this chocolate beast. It is studded with walnuts, making all the scarier. Hell, I had impressions in my fingers from the thing. Taste-wise, it was about as good as the Chocolate Chunk. Kay couldn't finish her half. 2 Brownies-These looked like they could have been served in a Beverly Hills boutique being that they were so ornate. Each brownie had some sort of chocolate candy stuck to the top of it, as if a designer put her own brand on it. They were pretty good 'n fudgy 'n all but were a little small. 2 Chocolate Petitfours-I'm not the biggest petitfour fan, but these made me a believer. Rich icing, moist cake...oh yesss... 1 Napoleon-I split this with Kay also. Normally I do not go nutters o'er these. They are good, but the ones I have had before were just a little difficult to eat, that puff pastry being indestructible to any utensil other than a steak knife. You can pick them up and just chomp into them, but then the filling shoots out from all sides. This results in disaster. Kretchmar's version uses some rectangular puff pastry with whipped cream and chocolate sauce inside. The trick is to just take it apart and eat each half like many do Oreo cookies. The whipped cream was amazing and cloud-like. The choco sauce almost tasted like a ganache. I have been told that you can't judge a bakery until you try their cakes, which I may do at some point, but based on what I partook in, Kretchmar's is worthy of their hype. For the many years that we've been returning to Beaver to visit my in-laws this bakery is a mandatory stop - OK, well my father in law gets up at 5:00 am, goes to the gym and then brings us fresh baked good from Kretchmars! Two flagship pastries here that you have to try - the Maple Nut Danish and the Long Johns. If you don't get to the bakery before 7:00 am you won't get these delightful treats which says a lot about them. You can however the day before order up 6, 12, 24 - whatever quantity you want so that you can be assured that they will be there! This is a particularly troublesome time of the year because all of us that have moved out of the area that come back to visit rain down on them and clean their shelves!! Kretchmar's other not to miss pastries include their cakes. I particularly love the butter cream icing. You won't find a better cake at the prices that they offer them at in this area. Their cookies are wonderful as well. The bakery is a walk back in time as is most of Beaver. Think Mayberry RFD! A quaint charming town complete with German Bakery - Kretchmar's! I should also point out that recently a big box coffee shop opened on 3rd Street one block (perhaps two) from Kretchmars. Starbucks in my opinion is a welcome neighbor as Beaver never really had a good coffee shop. When the weather is nice the new tradition is to pop into Kretchmar's get a bag of pastries and then head to Starbucks for a cup o joe to wash them down - sit at one of the tables on the sidewalk out front and take in a slower paced hamlet where people say hello and stop to talk. We came to Beaver for my BFF's bridal shower, and Kretchmar's was at the top of the list of must-see's. Being from a completely different (ie: expensive/unaffordable) part of the country, I was uncontrollably excited to find out that you can get a dozen cookies for a completely reasonable price...UNDER $6!!!!!! Yes, that's right- 4 delicious mini Lady Locks (Lady Fingers), 4 Raisin-filled Danish, and 4 Raspberry-filled danish all for under $6. AND a discount for paying cash. It was incredible, amazing, everything I could have ever possibly dreamed of!! Ok, maybe that was a bit dramatic, but this bakery should for sure be a must-see on any trip to Beaver. They also have a variety of breakfast sandwiches, Croissants, donuts, danish, cookies, breads, rolls, scones, coffee, cakes, tortes, pies, tarts, and seasonal treats! read more

Before you come at me with torches --- the baked goods are excellent. They are delicious, scrumptious and possibly the best in the tri-state area. My first birthday cake was from Kretchmar's and I drove 8 hours round trip to make sure my daughter's first birthday cake was made here. I have a Kretchmar's magnet on my refrigerator. I admit, I even have a Kretchmar's Cat's Meow on my table. The prices are GREAT and everything is made with care. Its consistently excellent. So why not 5 stars? Maybe I'm just getting older and grumpier, maybe am I notice things more or maybe the stars were not in proper alignment. But, the last few visits, the employees seemed exceptionally short and impersonal. Almost as if moving from one case to another was a burden. Little eye contact, no facial expression and monotone replies. Will I go back...of course. These are the pastries of the Gods. But this time I will just lifelessly state what I want in a robotic fashion with no expectation of the same warmth that goes into the finished product. read more

It's difficult to find a bakery I don't like, but Kretchmar's quaint, charming storefront immediately drew me. Since I began working in Beaver County, I've eaten many of their cakes, cupcakes, cookies and doughnuts that coworkers have generously shared at the office. I had to stop by to check out the magic for myself. The store is small, but they have a wide array of goodies, seasonal and otherwise. My favorite go-to for awhile was the pumpkin raisin muffin, which cost about $1.75. They give you a bit of a discount if you pay in cash! Kretchmar's is certainly a reputable name locally, perhaps at same level that Oakmont Bakery is in the Pittsburgh area. read more
