Sopris provided truly full-service support: lot remediation, design, permitting, vendor introductions, and construction. It is hard to imagine receiving better service from any other company! Concept and Design: We worked closely with John and his architect, describing what we liked about our former home and our future needs. Our goals included: - A home designed for "aging in place" -- one-level living with wider doors, halls, and shower entrances. - A modern design that still blends with the environment and preserves mountain views. - Features that balanced personal needs with future marketability. - Staying within our financial and insurance limits. Sopris delivered a design that met all these priorities, adding thoughtful features we hadn't considered. Preconstruction: Before building started, we selected everything -- appliances, flooring, fixtures, paint, etc. -- through Sopris's recommended vendors. This process ensured an accurate cost estimate, addressed supply chain concerns, and kept the project on schedule. The vendors were professional, offered great selections, and coordinated seamlessly (e.g., cabinet makers accounted for appliance sizes). Construction: Sopris's subcontractors and craftsmen were top-notch -- professional, skilled, and focused on quality. We especially appreciated having a dedicated project manager. Weekly on-site meetings kept us informed and allowed thoughtful adjustments (e.g., adding stair lights, extra outlets, etc.). Timing and Costs: Unlike some builder horror stories, our experience with Sopris was remarkably smooth. Many of our neighbors were told 15-24 months to completion by other builders; Sopris estimated 12 months and completed our home in 13. This was thanks to their planning, vendor relationships, and scheduling. Final costs came in under the original estimate, with minimal changes needed thanks to thorough up-front work. Insurance Support: Sopris's professional record-keeping and understanding of codes were invaluable in insurance matters. For instance, they successfully advocated for coverage of solar panels under our Ordinance and Law provision when initially denied. Sopris was more than a builder -- they were our advocate. We had Paramount Remodeling Company do a full remodel on our kitchen, dining room, and living room. Issues that we had throughout the project: - They ordered the wrong kitchen cabinets, including a) not ordering enough length to allow us to put 2 barstools across one edge of the counter as we'd planned, and b) not ordering a lazy susan cupboard for the blind corner cabinet. They did not apologize, give a refund, or offer to purchase an after-market lazy susan-type pullout. Now I have to physically climb into the cabinet any time I need to get something out of the back of the cabinet. - They left large gouges and scratches all over the kitchen cabinets. - They ordered our white backsplash tiles from two die lots, and intermingled the two. They wanted to charge us extra to redo the backsplash all from a single die lot. While they ultimately didn't charge us for the labor, we did have to pay for a second batch of tile all in the same die lot. - They painted all of the walls without wiping them down, and after putting the wrong texture on them. There was hair, pine needles, rocks, wall mounts, nails, staples, and all sorts of things painted into the wall. We had to pay extra to get them to do another pass. - They did a terrible masking tape job on all of the places where the walls meet the floor boards, ceilings, etc. They had to do a second pass, and even still the lines are not neat. - It took them two weeks to finish the "touchups". Most days during that time they only showed up for about two hours in the afternoon, if they bothered to show up at all. The project ended up taking about 6 weeks longer to finish than it was supposed to, which is not including the two month stop-work order that the city put on our project due to issues with the bathroom remodel done by a different company that was not Paramount's fault. I've owned two other houses where I've done largescale remodels. This was by far the worst, which is saying something since on one of those other projects the project manager ended up having to stop working on the project and literally almost died because he had a lung collapse and kidney or liver failure.

Wow, was that the right decision!! H Drywall wasn't the cheapest quote we received, but I felt like Hector took his time with the quote and really understood what we wanted. From contract signing to delivery of drywall was 7 days, and work started that afternoon. 7 days later (5 working days, plus the weekend), the job is complete and ready for paint. It looks INCREDIBLE. I can't rave enough about the team--every single day, they arrived on-time and worked hard. They were so respectful of our home, too; they even brought their own microwave and plugged it in outside for their food, even though they absolutely could have used our microwave in the kitchen!
