He is seriously overqualified for our baseboard project but he kindly took it on anyway and looking at it I feel like throwing around those chef's kisses; that's how beautifully finished they now are. Equally valuable is what a kind soul he is; the energy he brought into our house was light and buoyant. Nick is amazing, he never bat an eye at my crazy plan to travel this beautiful country in my Honda Element. I use the word "delighted" when referring to Nick's work with our window bench because he went well beyond our expectations in building a piece that echoed old-fashioned craftsmanship, blended with new world technology. Working with Nick was wonderful!! We had a small custom woodworking project that we needed done: recreating a cabinet in our kitchen that we had ripped out to add a dishwasher (see picture). Nick agreed to do the small project even though his talents could clearly be devoted to much more complex projects. Once he did, his work was meticulous: he used recycled wood for the framing that matched the drawers we had in feel, and he made everything match up and fit perfectly (despite the fact that our old kitchen is far from square). Nick did a fabulous job with a challenging puzzle. Cuz of a pesky cat, I needed a way to block an entrance to my doorless bedroom in my flat in a converted 1920's schoolhouse. Nick came up with a design that solved all of my problems and was stylish - especially fitting in with the style of my unusual flat. He designed a three part screen, that was beautifully executed, solid in the bedroom archway or flexible enough to use in another part of the flat. I was pleased that it incorporated a chalkboard to keep with the school theme. The gorgeous wood he used was from bleachers from an elementary school in the Mid West and matched my 1920's rec room floor. How perfect is that!! Please bear with me, this is not a 'crazy' one star rating, Nick earned it, deserves it, and absolutely must rethink his 'business' model. I have a glorious Piedmont House in need of new kitchen cabinets. During our first conversion he promoted software cabinet design at $125/hr through his buddy, I listened patiently through the sales pitch. He then told me to photograph everything in detail and describe the work and he would get back to me in a day or two. Nothing. I called after a few days, he had yet to view them, but absolutely would and get back to me. Nothing. After another few days I contacted him again, 'very busy' he told me. But absolutely would get back to me in a few days. Nothing. I spent a couple of hours getting photos, writing an assessment, following through and was clear that I simply needed a callback for his availability. Nothing. I am an engineer... the self-respect, professionalism, courtesy, and requirement for persons to achieve a common goal, build buildings, bridges, aircraft ... well certainly these traits are missing in this person. Fine, we are all glad he cuts wood. But a truly professional and conscientious person he is not, there is another side. there ... I guarantee this. read more
