I had an absolutely fantastic experience with Dr. York and her team! From the moment I walked in, the staff was welcoming, friendly, and made me feel completely at ease. The office is beautiful and equipped with the most up-to-date technology, which made everything feel efficient, modern, and reassuring. Dr. York took the time to explain everything clearly, answered all my questions, and never made me feel rushed. I've never had a dentist take before, during, and after photos during an appointment to show the work she was doing - how cool! It was obvious they truly care about patient comfort and quality of care. I also had a new custom mouth guard made as I grind my teeth in my sleep. Dr. York's office has a 3D scanner that took less than 3 minutes to complete - no need to for making impressions with that gross putty. My new mouthguards are thin and so much more comfortable than the old one I had. I'm so glad I found this practice. My family of 5 and I love Kristin York and her entire staff. From the welcoming receptionists, to her kind and considerate hygienists to the wonderful Dr. York herself. I've been going to Kristin for the last 8 years. She removed my wisdom teeth with zero issues, recommended affordable night-guards since I grind my teeth when I sleep ($30!) and I've even purchased a whitening kit from her practice that made my teeth brilliantly white. Dr York and her team are friendly, attentive, and gentle. My 16yr old had an abscess on a Saturday morning and once I left a message she got back to me via text. 1. This is a small clinic with one dentist. On top of this, the office kept cancelling appointments due to staff shortage. 2. They do not do root canal procedure or wisdom tooth removal. I had to make appointments at another clinic. 3. My tooth was left untreated at this location in spite of me being seen here for cleaning etc., and it became infected. Dr York maybe a competent dentist, however her office staff is rude and blatantly lied about my position as a patient. After being referred to her by another dentist, she sent me out to an oral surgeon for a tooth implant procedure. A year of expensive surgery later, they were finally ready to send me back to her where her curt office staff claimed I was not a patient, which I clearly was and refused to set the follow up. now I'm left with no dentist and a partially finished tooth implant. I do NOT recommend this dentist and warn anyone going here that she and her rude staff can and likely will drop patients at any time. Be warned. read more

I went to Dr. York for several years, but the quality of care was not always the best, particularly if you grind your teeth (TMJ). I found her pleasant to talk to, but she is not very knowledgeable about grinding and I would say even flippant. I told her I wanted a new bite guard (I've used a professional bite guard at night for over ten years) and she just ordered the cheapest one available, which she said my insurance wouldn't cover and it would cost me $300. Then, she had this 20-ish intern try to fit it for me by eye with no oversight. I finally asked the intern to use the "carbon paper" provided to find high spots and she just rolled her eyes and got it from the back. She continued to ruin it, so I just took it home and brought it back for Dr. York to fix, later. Dr. York didn't really know how to do it either, unfortunately. I ended up getting an over-the-counter one, ditching her $300 boondoggle, and took it to my next check-up and all she said was, "I see you got an over-the-counter bite guard." (By the way, after I got a new dentist, I found out my insurance DID cover part of the cost of bite guards and got a higher quality guard that was fitted properly for less than $300 out-of-pocket.) But that's NOT the reason I left Dr. York! It wasn't the under-trained interns that frequently provided service without proper guidance. It wasn't even the time the hygienists were out and Dr. York had to do my cleaning herself -- most painful process I've ever experienced with a dentist! (My mouth hurt for 3 days after the cleaning - literally.) The final straw was the umpteenth time she tried to up-sell me on unneeded procedures for two long hours! As others have mentioned, she frequently steers patients to expensive procedures they don't need. I came in for my 6-month cleaning and she had another intern try to do the up-selling for her....with no preparation. This kid opened the discussion with, "So, I hear you know something about flossing?" She went off on this round-about discussion about brushing and flossing and it didn't seem to make much sense, but I was trying to be polite. That lasted about an hour and I still hadn't had my teeth cleaned. Eventually I figured out she was trying to convince me to pay for this "deep cleaning" procedure. Then Dr. York wandered in and confirmed that I should really have the deep cleaning with another long sales pitch, but it would not be covered by insurance and I could get a second opinion, if I wanted. (And she was going to set me up with an appointment with a friend of hers to give the second opinion -- wink! wink!) All-in-all, I was at her office for nearly an hour and 45 minutes, I never got my teeth cleaned, which is what the appointment was set up for, and by the time I got home I had spent two hours of my life that I will never get back. In the meantime, two dentists and a dental hygienist have confirmed that they saw no reason to recommend the "deep cleaning" procedure she tried to sell me on. read more

I recently moved to the area and needed to find a dentist. The positive Yelp reviews seemed promising to me, so I decided to give Dr. York's office a try. When I called to schedule my appointment, the receptionist asked what kind of insurance I had. I told her, and she confirmed "Yes, we accept that." She also requested that I scan my insurance card and send it to her ahead of time so she could get the new patient paperwork started ahead of my appointment. A classy move I appreciated. Fast forward two weeks, and I show up for my appointment. I stand at the front desk while the two gals sitting behind the counter continue their personal conversation for several minutes before acknowledging my presence. When one of them finally does ask, curtly, "Can I help you?" I hand her my insurance card, and she rudely says, "uh, we don't accept this insurance. You'll be paying out of pocket for today's visit." I was surprised, but trying to be calm because I figured that since I previously confirmed they accepted my insurance when I scheduled my appt, there must just be a misunderstanding, "Are you sure? When I called to schedule, the receptionist confirmed that your office accepts this plan." Again, she rudely answered, "No, we don't and you weren't told that. You'll pay out of pocket today." I ended up leaving and not having my teeth cleaned. I wish I could have reviewed Dr. York herself. The other reviewers make her seem great. Too bad her staff was so rude. (In fairness, this may or may not have been the same person I talked to on the phone...in the two weeks that passed between my initial call and my appt., I forgot the initial receptionist's name. But, that's no excuse for rudeness.) read more

Dr. York is simply the best. She has a kind and friendly chairside manner, but that's just for starters. Not only do her patients recommend her, but dental specialists I have worked with in ortho, endo, and periodontics consistently praise her crowns and fillings: even other dentists rate her highly. Let's face it: perfectionism is a virtue when you're getting a crown. Not only does she insist on the perfect fit, but the color-match will also be just perfect. I would highly recommend Dr. York for anyone in the Lafayette area or with a student at Purdue. We are from Chicago, but have a son at Purdue and he had a dental emergency with a temporary crown. Dr. York got him in quickly and repaired the poor work from our dentist here. When it broke again (my son had a temp crown between Thanksgiving and Christmas), she made a new temporary crown for him at NO COST until he could get back to Chicago to have the permenant crown completed. We did pay for the original fix, but her rate was reasonable and she just refunded us $100 of the $150 because insurance paid her. We would not have known insurance paid the balance and she did not have to send back the $100. Shows integrity and honesty. My son has a new dentist for the next 3.5 years. read more

We felt like Dr. York recommended a good solution without a pushy up-sell that we have heard about from some other dentists. I've been having extreme tooth pain for the past 2 days. I came to Dr. York because she had several promising reviews. However, after my visit today, I won't be coming back. Positives: * The receptionist was kind and helpful in getting me an appointment, the same day I called. * The techs were efficient in taking my x-rays Negatives: * The doctor didn't even ask me where and why I was there but instead she just asked the radiologist/tech about my condition and made her conclusion. * The doctor made an evaluation looking at my x-ray but didn't ask me about the pain, the intensity, how often it pains, etc. Because after going to Dr. York, I consulted with another Dentist and they told me that the pain I was having was because of acute pulpitis in a different tooth and had nothing to do with the tooth with the crown (as told by Dr. York). * Dr. York referred me to a specialist to get my RCT evaluated and said that I had an infection and prescribed 10 days worth of antibiotics without even checking which tooth had the issue. She said she couldn't tell whether I had infection but without proper diagnosis, she prescribed me the meds. * Also, she doesn't do any procedure that was required for my tooth (as per her) in her office. She recommended me to two different specialist and then to come back to her to put the crown back. As for her, she opened my mouth and closed it after 3 minutes and took $100 for those 3 minutes i.e., $33/minute. That's more money than you pay to watch Rihanna sing in a concert. FINAL WORD: Save yourself from incompetent diagnosis and paying money when it's not needed. Go to a dentist that you have been personally referred to by someone else, because this DOC ain't touching my tooth ever again..... Last: I am sorry that you are having tooth pain:( read more

I'd say Dr York is very professional. But since the clinic is expanding and she recruited many assistants, the professionalism is hard to maintain. I filled about 7 teeth here and later ones are done by assistants. One assistant even polished my good tooth for biting adjustment without my permission! I have problems biting since then. Every time I chew something, that tooth feel uncomfortable. I don't think there would be a way to get rid of the problem. In addition, another filling is very rough and not polished well. It can easily stick to chewing gum. read more

If there was only a way to give negative stars!! Stay away from this place. This dentist has no idea what she's doing yet emphasizes billing and payments, obviously where her biggest priority lies. She had no idea how to run a nitrous oxide tank so my son was the guinea pig and paid dearly. It took her 20 minutes to pull a tooth even after she gave up on figuring out how to turn on the nitrous oxide tank. There is a sign on the front desk stating that you will be charged for missed appts cancelled less than 24 hours in advance yet they have no problem canceling on you with little or no notice but no monetary compensation for wasting the patients' time. They hound you and hound you to make future appointments so it is difficult to get away from this place but it's worth it if you value your time and teeth. read more

I would give a 0 stars to this office if I could. I schedule an appointment just for cleaning and X Rays. After the appointment, they told that I had to schedule some appointments to remove cavities. Before setting the appointment, I asked the receptionist how much it was going to be. She calls the insurance company and told me that I have to pay around $106, so I scheduled the appointment. I went to the appointment and paid the $106 that she originally told me. Three weeks later, they sent me an email saying that the insurance company paid them less money than what they originally thought, and that now I had to pay approximately $500 in addition to the $106 that I previously paid. Their excuse was that the original amount that they gave me was just an estimate. Really? How can an estimate vary from $106 to $606? So basically they gave me false information to make me make the appointment and then charge me with extra money. They should do a better job with the insurance companies and make sure about how much the patients have to pay before scheduling the appointment. Very unprofessional!
