Zero stars if I could. My boyfriend and I have been shopping at this Kroger every week for over year, never once have we had an issue. However, during today's ventures, we were stopped while shopping and forced to put on masks even though we requested not to. I understand people have there own feelings toward masks and I respect that other people choose to wear them. Unfortunately I have high claustrophobia and suffer from panic attacks and choose to not wear a mask for reasons of my own mental health. Not important to Kroger employees, apparently. To top off the experience- I paid cash for my groceries. Total of $78.47, handed the cashier $80 in cash. The cashier proceeded to inform me of a "coin shortage" and said that my change (I assumed actual change) would be on my Kroger card. THIS I NOT A THING! Still did not get my $1 back and "supposedly" $.53 cents is credited to my Kroger card. The notice posted to the window says "please consider" rounding up, I was not given an option and forced to do so. Picture attached. I left the register making angered comments and a Kroger employee attempted to follow us out of the store into the parking lot asking if everything was okay... no everything is not okay. To avoid a heated discussion between the employee and my boyfriend I let it go. Maybe we shouldn't have... WAKE UP AMERICA!! This is how the government is forcing people into a cashless society. This is how they are attempting to control and track all of your movements, your emotions, your behaviors and your well being. STAND UP AND DO SOMETHING. We shopped here since this store opened and used U scan 99% of time. Today we had to go thru a check out lane due to U scan lanes being backed up and we had to make an appt. We saw there were 4 check out lanes opened with nobody in line and employees were standing around talking amongst each other. They saw us coming to be checked out .....so they rolled and eyes and gave us such bad attitude thru the whole process. It's so disappointing to see how customers are treated at this location. They appear to have cut back on store hours. This place used to close at 11pm, but now they close at 10pm. This is very frustrating because nothing in this town is open past 10pm. After reading the only other review, I have to disagree with the one-star rating for this Kroger. I do think the other reviewer had a treacherous time with the meat dept, but I can't personally speak to that. I can tell you this is one gigantor grocery store! They have a US Bank, gas station, sushi bar, salad bar, and expanded version of every dept found in most Kroger locations. I was pessimistic about shopping at such a rural location, since I buy a lot of weirdo vegan items. Boy, was I wrong. They offered many brands and varieties I'd never seen before. AND they're open 24 hours! Basically, I was impressed with their selection and I didn't encounter any rude or inconveniencing employees. The other review griped about underage cashiers needing assistance to ring up alcohol.. man, cashier jobs don't usually pay enough to support an average adult, so I totally understand. You need to use someone else for your delivery option!!! I just spent about an hour and half trying to just get my address added so I can have my groceries delivered. I've shopped at Kroger for a while now. Use Kroger as my main store for groceries and this has me wanting to use someone else. Your third party company is terrible and after the time and trouble spent trying to just simply get my address added, they pretty much told me there was nothing they can do! Worst Kroger pharmacy I have EVER experienced. They take DAYS to fill prescriptions that are time sensitive. Staff is EXTREMELY rude, hours are terrible, lines both inside and drive-thru are Unbelievably long (took me ONE hour waiting in line to pick up my prescription. As I was checking out, I was informed that kroger no longer allows you to process your debit card as credit. I don't feel comfortable typing in my pin in front of everyone, so this is a big deal to me. Bad move kroger. I bought a bottle of white wine. When I got home and had some, I found it was spoiled. I drove back, and while the customer service staff were very kind, the wine department man (a big lump they called "big show") was rude and unhelpful. I was told the manager was out for the day, and I'd have to come back tomorrow morning. Driving here 3 times for a bottle of wine wasn't going to happen, so I just gave up. Sooo.... I like Kroger, sadly, I dislike THIS Kroger SO MUCH that I will drive to the other Kroger that's totally on the opposite side of town (this Kroger is less than .5 miles from my house). Here is my laundry list of complaints: 1. The meat department... I could write 6 whole pages on the failure of this one department, but instead I'll sum it up with a few highlights (or really low-points). My husband and I visited and requested some meat sliced, the butcher informed us that he just cut pork, so we'd have to wait... I said no problem, we have other shopping to do and he rolled his eyes and said it would be hours. HOURS!?!?!?! I don't think so... Next, my husband went up and asked them to slice us some thick Filet's (they only had very thin ones out) and the butcher told him that the slicer was dirty and it'll take a really long time and to come back TOMORROW! TOMORROW?!?!?! WTF?? Lastly... getting someone to help you. There is ALWAYS a larger gentleman who is sitting there giving out samples. But, even though he works in the meat department... we stood and waited for 10+ minutes before a manager came by and told him to help us (mind you, we were 3 feet from him the whole time and he even offered us a sample)... sadly, he just didn't want to get off of his ass and get us some shrimp. 2. Their selection... things are, generally, outdated or in the case of our experience today STALE (even with a future sell by date). 3. The help... is it just not possible to employ someone over the age of 21? I mean, when I go to a place of business... I generally prefer that a child doesn't have to get an adult (making my long trips... even longer) to scan my beer. My tip to you... drive to the Kroger Marketplace or to Publix! read more

I agree with Tara F.'s review of this particular Kroger and have a few more things to add. I like Kroger in general but the management at this location on Port Royal is horrible. I live very close so it is a convenient stop which is why I continue to shop there. The employees need to be managed - keep busy! offer to help! speak to the customer! learn how to bag groceries! More often than not, employees are standing around talking to each other like they are on break (this is mostly in the produce dept, the deli, and the baggers at checkout.) For example, the other day there were 4 people standing by the avocados all just hanging out. I couldn't see the price because they were blocking it. I circles several times but still couldn't get close enough. Finally I leaned over the back to see and then proceeded to choose a few from the back of the display. You would think they would notice and offer to move or ask me if I needed help. But apparently they take breaks there and couldn't be bothered. More than once I have had to bag my own groceries and when I spoke to the manager, she told me it was a scheduling issue and she didn't have enough people on the clock. So to give you a visual, the clerk is scanning as fast as she can while my food is piling up at the end of the checkout counter getting smashed and falling off the edge onto the floor. Um...stop scanning and bag a few things?!? When there are baggers, they chatter away to each other with little or no eye contact or greeting to me. I want to tell them to bag things a certain way but geez - don't let me interrupt your important conversation about what class you are taking this year or what plans you have Friday night... And then I get home and (in example) I find a gallon of milk, one avocado (separated from the other two), and a box of popcorn in a bag. I actually group my groceries together on the counter to help me put things away more efficiently and to keep things from getting ruined during the trip home. I don't know why I bother because when I unload them, it is unorganized and things are smashed. At the moment the store is in disarray due to reorganizing the shelves so my trip to Kroger was full of confusion. I agree that they needed to do some reorganizing and I'm sure when it is done it will be better. BUT during this crazy shelf swap you would think they would have employees walking around directing people to the things they seek. I saw lots of employees but they were all just standing around. Finally as I was heading to the checkout, a lady walked up to me with a flyer that told me where items were now located...gee thanks now that I am done shopping I don't really need it anymore - could have used that AS I WAS WALKING IN THE DOOR! It's really disappointing to have such a conveniently located store and to continually come home frustrated with my experience. If I had the time, I would gladly drive across town to the Publix where I always walk out with a smile and pleased with the service I have received. This Kroger would do themselves a great service by bench marking the Publix and implementing some of their customer service tips. read more

Without contest, this ranks among the most poorly managed businesses I've visited. The customer service, product inventory and produce quality are all extremely poor. Pros: -Clean, good carts, great location. Cons: -I'm considered "pushover" level nice, so hopefully that helps better define what I mean when I say that I've been rudely treated on 3 occasions: twice at the customer service counter, and once at self-checkout. Rude employees and unpleasant attitudes are rampant here. -Self checkout cashier is consistently non-present and seen chatting with coworkers at service counter or empty cashier lines. Expect to wait 2-3 minutes for scanning errors or coupons. -I ONLY use self checkout now because of poor bagging, poor attitudes, and because the last time I went through the cashier lane, I handed her coupons of which she scanned two, then deposited the other nine. I asked why the others didn't scanned, she claimed I only gave her two, I disagreed and asked her to just check the box she just threw them in, and the manager came over and refused to check, siding with the cashier. I lost roughly $19 in coupons. -The produce is the worst quality I have ever purchased anywhere. My wife and I can no longer purchase apples, bananas, cucumbers, strawberries, or raspberries due to dangerously low quality. Beware, much of it looks fine externally, but I have literally bitten into black, rotting apples and bananas, two separate times each fruit, thrown away berries and cucumbers same day as purchasing due to mold and internal rot. -I've purchased tainted ground turkey once, and tainted chicken once, both were labeled fresh, not markdowns. -From bottled waters to almond milk and chicken, consistently out of stock on basic items. BONUS CON: This Kroger routinely allows outside vendors to set up booths and sell random products in-store such as seen-on-tv type products($20 rice bag, bamboo pillows, knife sets). The sales presentations are somewhat deceptive in that the vendor will enthusiastically offer free gifts for Kroger shoppers over the in-store intercom. The free gifts are very low value(keychain flashlight) and given after the lengthy sales pitch. This is frustrating to people just trying to get in and out, and getting publicly called over while passing by. Also, this is a low-class level of customer shopping experience. Really wish corporate Kroger did an honest evaluation and overhaul on this location. It's got everything going for it, but routinely fails on just about everything. 1 measly star. Go to Walmart, Publix, or The Kroger Market across town. read more

So my past 3 years of history with this Kroger is very different than previous reviewers. This store is literally 2 miles from my house, so thats plus number 1. Secondly, the meat counter workers are very helpful. I will completely agree that they are typically under staffed, but thats not the employees fault. Allen in the meat dept is always helpful and friendly everytime I visit. I have had to ask his opinions on things numerous times and he is always willing to help. I was on the baking aisle today waiting for a women to get her kids out of the way so I could get the item I needed. There was an employee stocking shelves in front of me. She saw I was waiting for the obnoxious 7yr old to move and asked me what item I needed. She was nice enough to get the spice for me. In my opinion that was good customer service. Being friendly goes along way and it is contagious. Everytime i encounter the people working here I try to go out of my way to say hello, and have a nice day. Retail workers get treated like dirt 90% of the time. I can only imagine how hard it is to be nice after all they take. My philosophy, be nice to them and they will return the favor. This lifetime Kroger shopper is about to switch to Publix, permanently. I grew up in Antioch and my parents shopped at Kroger. I started shopping at Kroger in my teens and now have continued into adulthood. Now, this is my own personal opinion, but I believe that the younger you are, you don't really care about customer service all that much. That's something that's just not even important. When you are young, (and I mean under 30) all you care about is price and speed of getting out, because you've got better things to do and other things to worry about. Again, just my opinion, but once you pass 30, you begin to care about being seen as a valued customer in a place of business. Of course, that can be different for everyone. All that being said, this Kroger, especially, does not put the customer first. Ever. And I can say this with over 3 years of shopping at this Kroger. The worst part of this Kroger is the deli. 5:00pm on a Monday and there's one person working the deli? Seriously? While one lady was slicing with a line of 4 customers in front of me, another lady comes out from the back, sees all those people and then goes over to the bakery section to do a task, completely ignoring the customers. There were no customers in the bakery section and they didn't have any extra help to assist customers during the going home rush. There's one nice employee in the deli, I believe her name is Donna, but I'm not completely sure. The customer service counter is a joke. I've only been up there a few times, but each time the employee was more concerned with talking to co-workers about which manager "sucks" the most. Another area that I've not had a lot of experience with personally, but when I have it's always been bad is the grocery section. There's never anyone around to ask questions or help with finding an item. Tasks trump customers at this Kroger. Overall, this Kroger is just barely OK. Kroger has never shined in the customer service department and, truthfully, I've only had a handful of them look me in the eye, much less ask me how I was or how my day was going. We stopped here to quickly get something for a party before heading home from another party. Big mistake! We found the two items we wanted, but were surprised how long the lines were for every register and self-check. Another customer told us that their registers had been down. We waited a while in the self-check. One had been closed, but a young worker opened it up and told us to use it. Well, it was still not working. He reset it, but said it would not be ready. Then he told us to go get back in line AGAIN! Seriously! We left the items there. Poor service! I KNOW Publix would have handled this better. read more

I have been a customer of Kroger's for over 25 years. I have been using the grocery pickup ever since they started at the Kroger off Port Royal. The last two times I had a very rude person put my groceries in my car and slam the back door down both times. I asked him to not slam the door and to use the button to shut it. His response was "yeah, ok!" and he walked away. I ordered groceries last night, went to check out, somehow it brought me to the delivery checkout (what?!?) No!, So I changed it to "pick-up". It didn't take all of the items i ordered for some reason so I had to go back in and modify my order. I checked my acct this morning and I had three transactions. That's a red flag. :Looked at my order and it had all of my items and the total was what it was supposed to be. Got to the store today and they said I have two orders. I told them I only had one and explained everything that happened. The "Supervisor" in the grocery pick up was rude, had an attitude, told me they don't deliver (I told him I am well aware and have NEVER used the delivery. I always pick up my groceries). He asked if I wanted my groceries or not in his attituded, toned voice. I asked for the totals of both because something didn't seem right. He asked again if I wanted my groceries or to cancel. At that point, I was done and told him to cancel the orders. I called the store manager who oversees ALL employees and she was nice but had the attitude that she could care less about what happened. She apologized and that was it. I will be calling Kroger Headquarters tomorrow. They seriously need to train their employees on how to treat customers and situations that arise. This Kroger is very close to me and it is the only reason I visit it. Of course, they have all the items I need and want, and I love Kroger's affordability. This store is actually really nice compared to the older ones. So, as a general experience of what a store looks like and how it is set up, Kroger receives a much higher grade. However, you don't go to Kroger on Port Royal for a great customer service experience. All but maybe 2 or 3 employees (some of them only working on the morning shift) make the experience pleasurable. Mostly teenagers work there and they are very rude, oblivious, and obnoxious. They often times will be found joking and laughing very loudly, standing around, or in your way. Other times, they cut you off as they try to rush to the other side of the building, or perhaps you'll get a nasty look from one of them. Oh well, I ignore them and just get my stuff and leave. I try not to let it bother me because they have no idea who I am and that it annoys me, so it's not a huge deal. But like I said, if you want a customer service experience, don't go here. Go to Kroger Marketplace in Thompson's Station. I've had a good experience every time I've been there. But to just get in and out and ignore everything, you can make it through Kroger Port Royal, just go through self-checkout! read more

This Kroger is typically clean... I will say that the produce section here is not so great - they have strawberries that have mold on them, fruit that doesn't last 2 days after buying it and taking it home, etc. The biggest issue I have with this location is that the have the employee smoking area in the front of the store. Now, it's to the side, but it is still right there when you drive up to park and that's not the most appealing thing when going in to buy food for your family. To top that, if it is raining, my wife and I have both witnessed this on multiple separate trips to the store... the employees sit under the covering in between the 2 front doors smoking! I mean, seriously??? What manager is going to allow his/her employees to do this? This is a freakin' store where customers are going to buy food for their families and we have to walk through the employees' cigarette smoke to just get in the door? This location is only a mile or so from our house, so that's the only reason I go to this location ... I'll still go to Publix or even the Kroger that is 7 miles away sometimes as they both seem to kept up better. read more

This Kroger is so poorly managed and the workers need more training. I went to check out. The cashier Justin (no he was not a millennial). He did not speak to me. He did not start checking when I began to put my items on the counter. His demeanor was I don't want to be doing this. Once I had everything out he began. Still had not spoken to me. I ask if he wanted to scan my Kroger card -without a word he pointed to a scanner- I stuck my card under it several times. Then realized I needed to pick it up and push a scanner button. No big deal- but I say ok you might have told me how that works. His response was - ok- again more of a I don't care what you need to know Ok. The customer service lady was over bagging by then. I followed her to the desk afterwards and explained he might need more training - she said he just wanted you to scan it with the scanner. I said that is not the issue. He never spoke to me and his demeanor was I don't want to be helping you or anyone. She didnt seem to know what else to say. (I would have taken I'm sorry I hope your next experience is better) So I left and called her (she was in customer service) asked to speak to a manager. Waited and waited- tried again- waited and waited- never got a manager on the phone. read more

I have to agree this Kroger is just not a good place to shop. I have tried many times to give it chances, since we only live a mile away. I usually will take the extra time and driver to Publix. I'm not the type of shopper that needs people to say "Hi", but it's very obvious that these people that work there hate their jobs. I work as a customer rep everyday in my job, so I do understand how hard it can be. There is only one person that I have ran across that is always in a good mood and smiling. I actually will wait longer in line just to say "Hi" to her. I have been waiting in line on many occasions there and the employees are actually talking about how much they hate working there. If they don't like it there then they need to leave. Oh and by the way if the management reads this....they hate you too and talk about it in front of the customers.
