I never appreciated the importance of this until I had a hack job done by Edward Scissorhands at another salon. In that situation my hair looked like a nest and didn't look good at all this following day. I have also had a mani-pedi here and they also do a great job in the spa. Turns out that those very good reviews were actually from a family friend's friend's cousin's daughter...or something like that. Needless to say, I was a bit hesitant, but agreed to give it a try. An hour and twenty minutes later, I walked out with a dramatically different hair style, and one that I'm actually very happy with! I went from having waist-long hair to short hair, and Chris (hairstylist and owner) did a superb job. Now you might re-read the first sentence of this paragraph and wonder how a haircut ($45) could take so long...and no, I didn't wait for an hour. That was literally how long it took, because he was so careful and diligent. Halfway through, he asked me to take a look and I thought he was done, only to be reassured that no, he still needed to trim and shape it. This trim took another half an hour. Wow. The entire process was very pleasant as well. After hearing that I wanted short hair, the stylist showed me various pictures and made suggestions as to the length and how best to care for and style it. The interior was much nicer than I expected (although I guess I was anticipating a rather sketchy place given the lack of information and the convoluted way I heard about it), with bright lighting, large mirrors, and lots of space and seating. It was also wonderfully quiet! Of course, considering the amount of effort and time, the prices seem ridiculously low. $45 for the haircut, $80 and up for colour, $200 for digital perm. Unfortunately, they have no website, nowhere to check prices, and until now, no presence on Yelp (the greatest sin!). I do recommend you call and book an appointment though - ask for Chris. :)

They sent me detailed information on what to expect and their safety protocols. I avoided getting a haircut because of COVID but this place definitely made me feel comfortable and safe. I made a last minute appointment so there were only Creative Directors available to cut my hair. Despite the high cost I agreed to it because I figured it would be worth it and so the receptionist booked me in with Daniel. I actually hadn't cut my hair in over a year and decided to donate 10+" (my second time doing this, so I knew the process). The salon was also pretty well versed and suggested I bring a ziplock bag with me to store the hair after it's cut. Everything went super smoothly which is why I feel terrible to even write a bad review. I really enjoyed the conversations I had with Daniel but that's where he may have gotten ahead of himself. He told me that as a Creative Director, it's up to him to understand what the client wants through the conversations. So there was obviously a disconnect because the cut he gave me was NOT what I wanted. I have South Asian curly/wavy somewhat thick hair. And for the last 2 decades, my hair has always been cut in layers. But Daniel for some reason didn't pay attention to that and gave me a shoulder length blunt cut. That said, the length I have no problem with because it's going to a very deserving cause, but a blunt cut? Why would any skilled Creative Director think I wanted a blunt cut with my thick, curly bottom-heavy hair? Layers is really the only solution, unless he expected me to want to pin straighten my hair everyday. While he was blow drying my hair was actually when I realized he gave me a blunt cut, at the time I thought maybe he was blow drying it to then dry cut it (which I've had done before and is very common with curly hair) but no. His next client arrived and was waiting in the seat next to me and I just didn't want to stick around any longer, I thought it might look better after I washed it myself and let it air dry, but no. I also didn't have time to go back to see if he would "fix" it. Anyway, I gave myself 2 months to see if the cut would possibly grow on me, nope, still hate it. So I had to share my experience and disappointment. As much as I like Daniel as a person, it doesn't seem like he knows hair as well as he thinks he does.

Other then this salon I have only really found a small few that I find good enough to return to. In my business physicality's are very important and hair is high on that list but unfortunately I have never been skilled at doing my own hair so finding a trusted and reliable salon is a life savor! The location is a tad far for me but the service makes it more then worth while, they're situated in a large outdoor plaza with ample parking. The salon itself is actually quite small with a more unassuming design style; I enjoy feeling comfortable in my surroundings so the super posh designs some salons have actually make me less comfortable if you can believe it. The salon is exceptionally clean and modern with less emphasis on advertisements and decent use of floor space. The secretary was very polite and greeted me immediately even though the salon was packed. You can tell a good salon often just by how many clients are there so I knew it was a popular place. I was actually recommended by a photographer friend of mine who raves about this salon and I could certainly see why just by the caliber of customer service I received. I had my hair cut and styled by the owner of the salon ( I am soooo horrible with names it's actually terrible!) his name slips my mind but he worked along side Elmer Olson with many models and even celebrities. He was obviously very skilled and super gentle, ( lots of stylists tend to tug at my often unruly locks ) he assessed my needs quickly and I was astounded by how down to earth he was. I was expecting him to try to sell me on all sorts of things among the top I thought would be new extensions but he was so flattering and told me my hair was actually great. Again this kinda stunned me as most hair stylists I find try to convince you of all the things wrong with your hair and all the products or services they can offer to "fix" it. But not this time he just told me all kinds of tips for managing my curly hair, he didn't even push product or anything I decided on my own to go with the amazing Moroccan mousse he was using on me that smelled so divine. Hair cut, wash and style was $60 I think and well worth that plus the tip. A hairstylist who not only works well with my hair and my budget but is honest too? The owner Jordan was also disrespectful. They also have a new online system where they make you pay your deposit before hand and tell you the total is 315 only to tell you it is actually 350. They are rude and all they care about is your money not your hair and have no human decency of how to speak to people on the phone. they scammers there is no option to cancel online your appointment after they receive you deposit they don't answer the phone and then purposely will tell you the manager isn't available so you don't talk to them and you can't cancel your appointment.
