Kien, please get your website and schedule together. I scheduled an appointment weeks in advanced for a bang fix and good blowout for the wedding I would be attending. Less than a week prior to my scheduled appointment, that I had to put a deposit down for, Kien texts me saying he is busy with family. I understand things come up so after some back and forth we agreed on Saturday morning, the morning of the wedding. I made sure to schedule early so I wasn't rushing home or anything. Heading over I text Kien letting him know my ETA which he then responds saying I was seeing him Sunday not Saturday. First of all what wedding is on a Sunday?? I show him where he said Saturday and what does he do? Find another stylist? Nope. Rectify in anyway? No. Saturday morning in LA, nobody is going to be free to do a haircut and blow dry. He threw off my entire day. I wasted an hour just driving to and from the salon. After leaving a great review in the past it is so upsetting to be leaving this. This is a warning that apparently they need you to confirm MULTIPLE TIMES that you are scheduled or good-luck! Thank you for nothing KT Salon. read more

I just found out this morning that the hair appointment that I booked for this Sun (10/1) at 12:30 pm was cancelled by the business owner shortly before 12 midnight last night. I checked my email and received an email notification about the cancellation. However, the business owner did not state a reason for the cancellation, and did not ask me if I would like to re-book and re-schedule. Needless to say, I wasn't too happy because this is not too professional. For my second appointment with Jin, I was already pretty accommodating as a customer by agreeing to push my appointment time by 2 hours so that she could finish running some pressing errands. I didn't have to accommodate as a customer. But I just thought I would help her out. I didn't expect to get this kind of treatment in return though :( . I thought I had found a great salon in the Westwood area. But I guess I was wrong. This is really not a respectful way to treat a customer, especially when you already did not listen to her request for the last appointment :( . Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for my super short hair strands to grow out again. This was from my second appointment when I had already told her not to cut too short because I don't want to have to deal with bangs and maintain them :( . But now, I still have to deal with her mistake of cutting those hair strands too short, and I have to keep pushing them out of my eyes, unless I use a barrette or headband :( . It's very inconvenient and a huge hassle. I guess it's time for me to move on and take my business somewhere else. read more

I've been getting my hair cut & dyed here for the past 3 years and I absolutely love it! Kien and Jin are super sweet, welcoming, and skilled. I always leave with a hair cut/color that I love and smelling so good! Kien is very talented and genuinely cares about his clients. This was my first time at this salon and it was great! Kien, the owner, cut my hair. I told him what I wanted for my hair and he delivered exactly that. He is a great listener and didn't cut too much like I asked, or too many layers because I have thin hair and didn't want it to look thinner. My hair looks so much fuller and fresh! Highly recommend this place. Street parking is available and if not, there's a Ranch99 parking lot that is free right across from their salon. Pricing was very reasonable. 10/10 read more

Super unprofessional management. I wasn't happy with my color job I was overcharged for ($400 including haircut, which is only $60) so two days after the service I made an appointment with KT and the colorist to have them fix it. I drove 45 mins in traffic on my day off back to the salon to make my scheduled appointment where upon arriving KT and his stylist then told me they didn't want to fix it (!) cause they thought it "looked beautiful" (though I could clearly still see brassy tones/demarcation lines in my supposed-to-be-ash blonde hair, and nevermind the fact the customer is ALWAYS supposed to be right in beauty service professions as it's my literal hair). Nevermind I used my time and gas to get there. My hair color was already fading badly. They told me to "wait a few weeks" and come back if I still wasn't happy. I had a trip out of state and when I returned I tried to call the salon. By now my hair was yellow. I left a message and tried to call again a few hours later (I work in entertainment and need my hair looking good for work and I had already paid this salon literally hundreds of dollars for an unsatisfactory job they refused to fix) and the stylist answered- I was very polite to her and explained the situation. All I wanted was them to re-tone it. She said ok lets book you and handed the phone to KT (the owner) who then VERY RUDELY told me that he didn't want me coming back to his salon and that it wasn't a "good fit for me". I had never been anything but polite and understanding with these people- despite being refused my fix appointment I took off work and drove 50 mins across town for. I have to wonder if this is because he, his team, and his clientele from my observations are mainly Asian. I am white. I do understand differences in hair textures, etc and that some may be less experienced with certain types of hair. Perhaps he and his stylists were afraid of working on it (color treated, fine, blonde) but I sensed some sort of "you don't belong here" vibe which is weird cause my usual stylist is from Japan and operates in San Diego and I've never had that feeling before. On the phone he told me to text him my credit card info and he would issue a refund, but before I could confirm the phone number I was texting it to was the one I had called (which was his cell) he hung up on me and as I soon learned- blocked my number!!! Days went by and no refund was issued. Because he blocked me. I couldn't even get a call through to this number anymore. So I then had to take another 2 hours out of my day to go to his salon and chase my refund. My hair by this time had faded and was obviously not holding any of the original toner and looked almost just like it had before I had ever went into their salon, with the exception of the basic bob haircut they did. When I walk in KT is alone working on a customer and then proceeds to argue with me about what he said in regards to coming back "in a few weeks" (he actually tried saying I waited too long- I went in only days after the service BY APPOINTMENT and they refused me!) and refunding me, first saying I never texted him my info when my phone said otherwise, denying blocking my number necessitating my drive over, then said he was busy and that if I wanted to wait for my refund to be issued I had to sit there til 7pm when he wasn't booked (refunds take less than a minute?) instead of just giving me the reassurance it would finally get done. I ended up having to write my info on his business card and leaving. He did issue a refund at the end of that day. But I spent a total of almost 4 hrs driving for nothing and wasted so much gas and time because of how unprofessional he is and my hair still didn't look right!!!! Wish I could give zero stars for his attitude alone. The stylist also tried to charge me twice for basically the same process, charging toning the root part of my hair separately from the rest, insisted I get highlights when I never asked for any (!) and which didn't show up on the final product (she did refund me for that prior) and also never asked if I was a student to get the discount they offer students. It really seemed like they just tried charging me as much as they could get away with for mediocre services that they refused to fix and were difficult about refunding. The irony is I found this salon highly recommended on Reddit in a post about local salons that are good and don't overcharge. What a lie. I'll be driving to San Diego tomorrow to get a decent fix job done at my usual place. Go somewhere else. Edit: attached is a screenshot of the owners reply in case he tries to edit or delete it. What a disgusting person. I repeat- I was NEVER anything but polite to him and his stylist. No wonder his salons has so many racist accusations. My best friend left here in tears because of Don. He was unprofessional and a racist bully to someone who came on their first time to the salon. I had to call the receptionist (who was a sweetheart by the way, no shade to anyone else who works here as we're only talking about Don) to complain specifically because my bestie is the sweetest human being and would not give anyone a hard time. I would not at all recommend Don. He constantly made snide remarks about my friend being "late". She made the appt the day of and was like told to come in right then. She told them she'd be there in about 20 minutes and asked for a slightly later appointment btw. He also made racist comments, saying she should be in Long Beach rather than living in LA because of her ethnicity. And made her feel bad about her existing hair style, pushing it as far as saying "you don't have $20 to get your bangs cut?". Aside from all the terrible remarks, he still let her sit in his chair for her appointment without washing her hair and making her feel like there was no time to even style her hair at the end. That's just piss poor service. I've had $20 haircuts that still blowout your hair when I was in college. If you're a professional, act like it and treat your clients with respect. It's your job to leave clients happy and feeling good, not literally crying. If you can't handle the pressure of working and living in LA, move back to NYC. read more

BEST SALON EVER! So I haven't cut or colored my hair for about two years, so it was pretty bad. I was suppose to get it done around spring break, but the pandemic hit and I had to put a hold on it. After months of depressing hair, I decided to go to KT Salon because one of my friends recommended it. So he gave me Kien's number to text him and we scheduled a consultation to see what can be done on my hair. Kien was very nice and friendly, which made the process go so smoothly. I told him I wanted to cut off all the dry parts of my hair and get a balayage. He gave me suggestions and I fully trusted him because he definitely knew his stuff. The process was about 4 hours and it was amazing! Definitely the best salon I have been to and the best hair I've had. Also since the pandemic, they checked my temperature and everyone was wearing a mask. It was nice because I was the only client in the salon for awhile, so I'm guessing they space out appointments to make everyone stay safe. Even though I'm from the Bay Area, I will be coming back to KT Salon because they have great service and prices! If you get a chance, definitely have Kien style your hair. read more

KT salon did a great job! Was visiting LA for an extended period of time, and after perusing tons of Reddit reviews of barbers in the area that could cut Asian hair, I decided on KT. They were able to fit me in on a two days notice (I called directly), and the hairsdresser (she was a woman, but I forget her name) listened really well to what I wanted. You can tell the people here are very skilled, as most of my haircut was done with scissors with clippers only on the sides. I was initially a bit worried that most of the haircuts you see on Yelp are coloring/womens' hair cuts, but I was very satisfied and wouldn't hesitate to come here again! read more

BEST my hair has ever looked!!!!! I was referred here by word of mouth, so that's how you know it's good. I have a weird, hard to manage hair type and Kien listened to me and delivered more than any hairstylist ever has. Kien takes his time with you and you can tell he deeply cares about every detail. He is a true artist the way he cuts each strand of hair and it was incredible to watch him work his magic. He somehow managed to take my fine, curly hair and removed so much heaviness from it, yet somehow it has never looked or felt fuller! Kien is so talented and I will definitely be getting my haircut here religiously in the future. The prices are very low, almost too low for how talented and experienced Kien is, so please make sure to leave a nice tip. I got my hair cut by Kien thanks to a recommendation from my partner. The price is very reasonable for a women's cut and I loved how it turned out. I also find the salon very relaxing, typically calming music playing in the background. The salon is small, which I prefer, helping to limit noise and improve the whole experience. I got my hair cut by Jin! She did an amazing job; I hadn't cut my hair in over a year due to the pandemic, so it was really long and lifeless! I showed her some pictures of what I liked and she helped me pick the best style for me. I got curtain bangs for the first time and I was so nervous, but it came out fantastic!! My hair is a lot lighter and feels like it has more volume because of the layers she gave me. Also they have a student discount! I feel so cute and refreshed, thank you Jin! Would not recommend Don, unless you like to be bullied and served an attitude. I called to inquire about appointment availability and the kind woman said I could come in right now. I wasn't expecting immediate availability but I said I could come in 20 mins since there was an opening. If you're from LA you know there's traffic and challenges with parking, so I can take ownership for saying 20 mins instead of 30. I walk in and Don says there's no time to wash my hair cuz he has another client coming in (ok, fine). While cutting my hair he REPEATEDLY reminded me I was late and asked me if I'm late to other things like class. Hated on my previous home bangs cut and said he couldn't fix it. Asked me why I couldn't spend the $20 to fix it earlier. Mind you, my bangs had already grown out to nearly my chin and I didn't think it had to be such a big deal. Also, I'm literally here about to pay you for a whole hair cut so don't treat your clients like they're poor. I asked him if this was his everyday attitude and he said "Just to people who are late". I left pretty upset and wished I had left sooner. The owner was very kind to speak with my boyfriend and offered a refund/future hair cut with him. Before diving into the main part of my review, I want to say Jin has done such an amazing job with my hair most of the times, and if you are happy with her creation, congratulations! She is a skilled hairstylist, and as many of you know, finding a good hairstylist is not an easy task. I am only leaving my review so other people don't make the same mistake I made. I want people to keep going back to the KT salon. So far, I've been to the salon 4 times. When I got my first haircut, I was happy, and as my second time there, I got my haircut and color, which I loved! I received a lot of compliments, and I absolutely appreciated what Jin did with my hair. As my third time, I didn't like the color, but I didn't speak up. I owned that as my mistake and decided to speak up if I am unhappy with the service next time. During my fourth visit, I brought a picture to show the cut and color I wanted, and I loved the cut but the color was clearly incorrect. I brought this up to Jin and she told me to wash my hair a few times so the color would get lighter similar to the hair color shown in the picture. Although I hated the color of my hair, I believed her and decided to wait for a month, hoping my hair color would get lighter. Unfortunately, this didn't happen so I asked to get it fixed. For them to fix the color mistake they made, the customer has to pay the treatment cost of up to $120 (it ranges from $45 to $120 depending on the severity of the hair damage). Color service is complimentary (free), but the treatments are separate, so the customer has to pay for those. I already paid $480 for my haircut, color, and tip, so I didn't think it was fair for me to pay more money for the mistake my hairstylist made. After several back and forth with email, I decided to get the refund for the tip amount, which they are going to pay gladly (it's still in progress). The moral of my story is not stop going to the KT salon. They work hard and do amazing job. The lesson here is if you are unhappy with their service, address your dissatisfaction and insist getting it fixed while you're there. Give them a chance to fix it right away. Don't listen to "wash your hair a few times" advice. I don't believe there was any ill intention, but you should get the cut and the color you want when you leave the salon. read more

She also just seemed genuinely excited to style my hair which made me feel more confident as well. Kien was very kind too, he wasn't my stylist but offered me tea while I was getting my hair done. I've been coming here for almost two years, always with Jin. This is the second time she has colored my hair and she did an amazing job! She dyed my hair black two weeks ago in preparation for my wedding, and now she worked her magic again and gave me the purple hair I've been waiting for! I showed her some photos of the color I wanted and she matched it perfectly. She suggested I get dark purple at my roots instead of leaving my roots black and I love it so much! It's a subtle change but as my hair fades I think it will look amazing. She showed me products to help keep my hair healthy and to touch up the color at home in between visits. I gave this place 3 stars because my hair turned out good. What I have a problem with is how I got an appointment set up for 1:30 and didn't start until 3 and was there for almost 3 hours for a toner appointment. No haircut, no treatment, no bleaching. They over schedule, which is problematic especially because there is a pandemic going on and their space is tiny. After my hair was toned I waited for over an hour with wet hair that soaked the back of my shirt and jacket. I did not feel at all like they respected my time. Desperately needed my roots done and came in to get a double application and toner to refresh my blonde hair! May was a gem, super helpful and kind to my hair.
