I had a very disappointing experience with this salon. I booked my perm appointment in advance, drove over an hour to get there, and arrived early as they requested. However, when it came time to be seen, I was told it had been cancelled. It took multiple receptionists to realize that one of them had accidentally canceled it. The problem is that I was never notified. I didn't receive a cancellation email or text despite having notifications enabled, and no one could explain why I wasn't contacted. If I had been notified, I wouldn't have wasted over two hours driving. What was most disappointing was how the situation was handled. There was no tangible effort to make things right--no attempt to fit me in, prioritize me for another appointment, or offer any accommodation after I had cleared my schedule to see them and spent so much time traveling and waiting. I understand that mistakes happen, but unfortunately, I left feeling like my time wasn't valued, and I can't recommend a salon that handles scheduling errors this way. Additional note: My appointment was originally in August, but I rescheduled for July. I received a cancellation email for the August booking, but never the July one because I didn't cancel it. What an absolute let down. My experience did not match the other reviews on this page and I am confused why I was treated so differently whilst being charged additional costs that outlined. I was not offered any kind of beverage, complimentary snack of any of the pleasantries so many other clients reference in their reviews. A small frustration but one that set the tone for the visit. The initial 'consultation' was conducted by an assistant, not Jenny (my stylist) who informed me that the 'Aqua treatment', one of the three items I had booked for, was more of a scalp treatment and due to my scalp already being healthy I probably needed something different for a hair conditioning treatment (which I was hoping for). The first treatment I received, a scalp refresh ritual, was not carried out by my stylist, but by the assistant. She did her best but perhaps due to not using the equipment often managed to spray product directly onto the side of my face and into her own eyes at one point. Just a bit clumsy. The chair headrest was so low I couldn't comfortably relax, the assistant mentioned "sorry but this chair is for Asian clients and so you're too tall for it". The assistant gave a pretty average head massage for about 10 minutes which was relaxing though. Credit to her for that. Once Jenny DID come in the consult with me, she was quite cold. I introduced myself as soon as she walked in, she did not return the favour, which I found strange and slightly demoralising. Especially as the total of my 2 treatments and haircut was a $300 charge, I expected at least some rudimentary warmth in dealing with her client. Jenny didn't agree with her assistant's assessment and when I mentioned that I wanted a deep conditioning of my hair rather than any scalp treatment she responded "yeah that will work" and I was moved into the chair to have the aqua gel applied. The '2 hr' treatment lasted all of about 25 minutes. What on earth happened to the rest of my treatment time/experience I have no idea. After this, I was given a wash... again carried out by the assistant not my stylist. And moved into the cutting chair. The work station, chair and surrounding area was still covered with the short black hair of the male client who was sitting there before me. They hadn't even used the hair-dryer to do a base level 'blow' across the space to remove the hair, let alone a proper clean up of the space before I was sat down. Another insulting moment for me that left me feeling uncomfortable and unsanitary. Finally the cut. After I sat down and informed Jenny that I only wanted less than an inch cut off the bottom of my shoulder length hair (just trimming the split ends and a light refresh of some layering) she then told me "well because you have longer hair than a guy you will have to pay an additional $50 for a woman's hair cut price". Now... if this was something that was going to happen shouldn't this have been explained when I walked in? During consultation? Not after two treatments AND once sat in the chair to start the cut? I reluctantly agreed although I should have asked then why this wasn't explained when I walked in. My cut took less than 20 minutes to finish. Like I say, minuscule trimming and a light refresh of my layers. She ended up taking more of my length than I had asked for anyway and when finished didn't even bother to hold up a mirror to show me the back of my haircut. At least she talked to me a bit more during my haircut after much coaxing from my end to make polite small talk. Utterly deflated I just said thanks and headed out to pay so I could end this wholly depressing experience. Then came the final kicker... not only did I get charged an additional $50 for a woman's haircut despite the whole thing taking less than 20 mins. I was also charged an additional $50 for the aqua treatment ($200 instead of $150) for my 'longer hair'. They didn't inform me of this as I paid and I only noticed once I was emailed the final receipt breakdown. All in all I paid $460 (I left a $60 tip) for a 20 min haircut, two treatments that lasted 1hr30 less than they were meant to, to be treated like I was not welcome in the business, not be offered any refreshments and for a cut shorter in length (time AND hair wise) than I had requested, sat in a dirty chair surrounded by the hair of the previous client whilst being upcharged an additional $100 for poor service. All in all I would not go back to the business after being treated this way and I am very sad at my experience not simply for the high costs vs low experiential factor, but also because I wanted to support a local Korean business but appear to have been treated differently to many of the other local clients perhaps because I am not in fact a local myself? I originally went in just for a haircut, but I told Michaela(Master Director) that what I really wanted was a low maintenance hairstyle and also a fresh new look for the new year. As a working mom, I honestly don't have time to do my hair and most days it ends up in a ponytail or bun. She completely understood what I wanted and recommended a number of good options. I ended up with c-curl perm along with a cut and straightening and I am so glad I trusted her. What was supposed to be about a hour long haircut turned into almost three hour appointment and she stayed late to make sure everything was done perfectly. I was so grateful for that. I wanted to try a digital perm for the first time and booked an appointment with Celine, and am very happy and impressed with my experience! They take appointments online, so it was very convenient to find something that worked with my schedule. I drove up from San Diego, and parking was free and very easy with their underground parking. The salon itself is very clean and bright, and everyone was very polite and friendly. I was greeted and checked in immediately upon arrival, and they provide little snacks and a drink! I was given a robe, then Celine's assistant took me to the back for a shampoo (and really great scalp massage) before Celine got to work. Celine evaluated the condition of my hair and looked at my reference photos before giving her recommendation. I came in with waist length hair, and she suggested trimming off the dried out ends to keep the hair healthy for the perm. We went with layers and a Grace perm which included a root perm and bang perm. I was very nervous as this was my first time, and Celine was so kind and patient and talked me through the process. She also took the time to show me how to maintain the perm, which I really appreciated. In total, I think it took a little over 4 hours since I had so much hair. Celine and her assistant checked in throughout the entire process to make sure I was comfortable, and they were very attentive to details as well. I'm very happy with how the cut and digital perm came out, and have received a lot of compliments on it already! Celine was so amazing during the consultation, taking note of my particular face shape, the way my previous hair was looking for my features, and deciding whether to recommend/go against certain hairstyles -- it really made me feel like the haircut and perm was being designed with my features and hair type in mind. Celine and Abby worked really hard, even staying an hour AFTER closing to make sure my hair was perfect because my hair type took longer than usual to finish. Ever since I moved out to LA, I've been looking for a permanent local hair stylist. I think I found my girl at Theodora! Celine 쌤 was amazing in that she got my hair right even without a reference photo. She was very attentive to what would look good on my face and went out of her way to teach me how to maintain and style my hair as well. Overall, had such a wonderful experience and would say it was worth the price! The salon itself is very nice and the staff are very professional. I've been coming here for many years. Should have left an amazing review forever ago, but here it is! The hairstylist that does my hair is Kai, and his assistant Nam. They are the best of the best! It's extremely difficult to get the perfect shade of blonde on Asian hair, but this salon does an incredible job every time!! ‍My natural hair color is black, I dyed it platinum blonde, and I get root retouch every 3 weeks. My hair is super healthy, it doesn't break at all. Even with bleaching my hair, my hair still stays healthy. Everybody at the salon is super welcoming and accommodating. Their pricing is amazing, way better than other salons. I actually moved away, but now I still don't mind making the 1-hour drive to get my hair done here every month. I do not trust anyone else to do my hair, except this salon! They do such an amazing job, I would recommend this to anyone! read more
