This time we're coming to the Liliha location in support of another family member of mine. Located in the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Medical Pavilion on the same property as St. Francis - Liliha, there is validated parking at this location. Thankfully, we were provided a parking pass during an earlier appointment here otherwise, we probably would've parked in the main parking structure. Once we passed the parking lot attendant, we took a ticket and turned LEFT at the T-intersection. We then followed the driveway down to the designated stalls for the Cancer Center. The Cancer Center is located on the Basement Level. Once we got out from the elevator, we headed for the reception desk where we scanned my family member's Cancer Center card to check-in. We like this barcode system because it also serves as identification and verifies the series of treatments that the patient is going through. Once the patient is checked in, we noticed how on-time they get the patients in and out of the clinic. Everyone in this clinic is respectful, helpful and friendly. We feel that it takes a special personality to work in this medical clinic. The staff does their best to make both the patient and their loved ones comfortable and kept informed. The Cancer Center's staff even gives you a sense of confidence and understanding. You feel their support that will help you get through this Life's challenge together, one day at a time.

You can enter on your first left when you drive in. Or you can drive all the way up to the next building and there is another entry into the parking lot. If you park up there, it's super easy and quick to get to the buildings and this office, but exiting from the parking lot is tiresome. You'll go around and around many times. From the lower section, you need to take the long driveway, make a right turn, then go past the reserved stalls, and then find a spot. If you find a spot without going higher much, you'll need to take the elevator up. If I can quote the wise Olmec, "the choice is yours, and yours alone!" The office and waiting area is very nice. Super clean, cold A/C, comfortable chairs, very spacious, eye-pleasing artwork, and nice TVs not on annoying channels. The staff here are very friendly and professional. They are thorough and explain things clearly and easy to understand. The whole MRI process took a little over an hour, and probably 20 minutes to check in, fill out forms, and wait. The good thing is they validate 3 hours parking, so it'll be free.

My doctor took the liberty to schedule the appointment and I was committed to an evening off from work as it was scheduled for 9:15pm. Finding a doctor's appointment to fit my work schedule can be challenging, yet this one was out of the ordinary as I had no idea this center opens until 10pm. Late in the afternoon I received a call and voicemail from them asking if I could come in earlier than scheduled since a last minute cancellation was made making my appointment available from that point on. I immediately went in ASAP! First of all, parking was amazing! On a Tuesday evening when the busy work day comes to an end, Level 1 was completely empty. There were a few patients in the waiting area. But once I completed my personal information sheet, my name was called immediately. The technician was sweet and professional, she was fast and thorough, front desk administrator quickly validated my parking ticket and I was in and out within 15 minutes. By the end of the next day, I was told that my results would get forwarded to my PCP.

I got a little irritates by this thinking and wondering if I hadn't gone up to the counter to ask for the bathroom key, we would have continued to sit there until after 2:00! I felt the receptionist should have at least let me know that she tried calling and that the office wouldn't reopen until after lunch at 2:00. I was pressed for time since I was taking my daughter to get her xrays done, using my lunch break. I ended up leaving and taking my daughter home so I could go back to work. End result was I called and left a message with the doctor's office who the called Hawaii Imaging to call in the paperwork. I ended up taking my daughter after work. Got there at about 4:30 and out in no time after! This place wasn't as crowded as earlier. Highly recommend going later in the afternoon. This location is walk in only. I was MISdiagnosed there 2 YEARS when I had lymphoma UNDER shrapnel from an Iraq War wound. I was told, "You are getting OLD, and it's an old war wound..." DISSED for 2 YEARS??%$#@! finally, I went outside w/Medicare, got a proper diagnosis, (CANCER in that bone under the 'old war wound'), and referred for treatment-- finally the V.A. got involved because I threatened to go to the press if they didn't take over. The docs at St. Francis radiation center were GREAT. But nothing worked as it's a rare cancer and it didn't respond to radiation, and kept coming back. Finally, with MY research (I'm a retired surgeon) I found a treatment that may work for me and they referred me on after my oncologist AGREED. MAHALO PRES. TRUMP for 'Care in The Community', as we can now go to outside docs if we live far away--and they took me seriously, I got treatment the V.A. doesn't have anyway--and they listened to me, treating me with respect as a fellow doc. PALI MOMI WAS THE LATEST DOC TO SEE FOR BONE SURGERY--a big surgery, a VERY long 18 month recovery=MAJOR. I saw Dr. Aratani, who is highly specialized in ortho and oncology--one of only 2 on island. The only other is my friend @ Tripler but he was deployed so unavailable and he got me in to see Dr. Aratani. She was enthusiastic about my research, said YES--and referred me on to Queens for one treatment before she operates...but PALI MOMI WAS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. I was pretty lost there as I never go to Aiea, living in Kahalu'u, and it's grown so much all my old landmarks are GONE--but after finally finding it, employees directed me every step of the way as to where to go, what building/floor/etc. OMG! That NEVER happens @ the V.A. I was totally--no lie--slack jawed by the time I got to her office! EVERYONE was so FRIENDLY--and not put on--I mean genuinely friendly, helpful...as my leg HURTS and walking HURTS...so so many folks there offered to help..I am BLOWN AWAY. It is BY FAR, the BEST medical facility I have EVER been in--and after getting wounded, I've had 15 surgeries, multiple scars/shrapnel/debility...etc. I just am very impressed=PERIOD. Much aloha to all you guys!!! Your assist and help was SO appreciated! I've been really down about all this, the time I lost getting treated and where it's at now--needing major surgery, possibly crippled for life...yadayada. But you guys there really cheered me up. He texted me needing a lift from Pali Momi Medical Center (PMMC) to his home just off Kinau Street. PMMC opened its doors in July 1989 and has been servicing Central and West Oahu. It was originally opened as Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi until rebranded as PMMC in 2010. They are conveniently located in Aiea just down the road from Pearlridge Shopping Center. It was my first time here and was impressed with the upkeep of the grounds. Because my friend just had a procedure to the day prior, a hospital staff wheeled him via wheelchair to the pickup/drop off area. I was amazed by the hospital's attention to patient's condition, consideration and service extended. Although the pickup was a fairly quick process, the setback I encountered was leaving. There were 2 parked cars in front of me and it didn't seem the cars would be leaving soon. Furthermore, the right hand lane was too narrow where I couldn't pass them. My only option was to back up and exit via the far left lane. Thank goodness there was no car behind me otherwise I would have been in a standstill. Overall, impressed with my first visit to PMMC, with the exception of their pickup and drop off area. 2026 #60
