Jeez, I haven't been to Queen's in like forever. It looks so different. Someone close to me had surgery here, so we came to visit him. You park in Miller Parking and it's free for the first hour. There's no need for validation. The parking is a little tricky. The lobby is on level B2. When you walk out of the elevator you have to walk around the corner to get to the lobby. He was in the Queen Emma Tower. This place is like a maze. You have to make a few turns to get to the Queen Emma elevators. We got lost a few times. The hospital was clean, bright and really nice. The staff were also really friendly. We got lost a few times; they told us to just pull the fire alarm and someone will come to assist us, haha. read more

I always go to QMC Punchbowl for many things... Doctor appointments, surgery, ER, and inpatient. Everyone treats me with upmost care. There's a convenient coffee shop in the lobby where we get Starbucks coffee and treats. Parking system needs improvement though. The options are not given to you even you're discharged from inpatient as they don't validate on your floor. We weren't told about the multi day pass until another person told us about it. That's such a shame as my husband had already paid $15/day for the first 3 days I was there. I was there for 16 days! I can't imagine paying almost $400 for parking. Each floor needs to tell patients send visitors about the multi day pass! This is the only reason for taking away a star read more

Bill wasn't erased! Had to still pay out of pocket $207.80 unbelievable, that's a discount on zero services rendered. Like seriously, I could call my own specialist and not pay over $200! In fact his bill was around $50 for actual surgery! Ridiculous and they made like they're helping me out. Just doesn't make sense to me as I went several times to the mainland with my HSMA coverage and I've done the ER and regular visits to my specialist there at Sharp Memorial and it's all free and covered. Today I had to go to Queens at Punchbowl. My first time there. I had to get a medical procedure done. Everyone I encountered was super nice and helpful. I wanna shout out to the IRU nurses. Jessica, April, Cassie and Sherice. You guys made my stay so entertaining. You took your time explaining and letting do my thing and not rush me. Thank. You for talking story with me while trying to get my IV in. Especially the IV specialist who had to come in the end and do it. My veins was not cooperating with the other nurses. I loved watching the ultrasound and you showing me where the needle was. That was totally cool. Dr. Pookla, thank you for explaining and making me feel comfortable. Medical care in Honolulu, Hawaii... My friend asked me to go with her to Queen's Medical Center to learn how to care for her sister at home after discharge from the hospital. We only paid $3 for parking in the structure, even though we were there for more than an hour. The staff were very cheerful and helpful. There were four of us, seated with the patient, in a private room. The table was large enough to hold all of the supplies. My friend and her brother-in-law practiced the routines and asked questions in the clean, air-conditioned room. It was a productive session! The teacher was actually not an employee of the hospital. The regular staff gave us information about the restroom and parking validation (none). When the patient needed to use the restroom, staff came promptly to assist her. We will probably be back to visit and/or pick up the patient when she's discharged. read more

My kind, quiet, fully coherent and sharp grandma, who is about to turn 100 years old next month, was an inpatient at Queens last week for a UTI and possible gallstones. Grandma is not demanding and does not ask for much. She asked a male CNA to help her get out of bed so that she could go to the bathroom, as she was having difficulty both with urinating and with mobility. To her embarrassment, the CNA told her to just "go in her diaper," and that he would clean her up later. She told him that she didnʻt want to do that, because she didnʻt want it leaking out. He still refused to help her out, so she was forced to urinate in the adult diaper. Then, when my mom helped her to to the bathroom later, the urine did indeed leak onto the floor. Going to the bathroom is just an act of basic human dignity, especially for a patient in a stressful and expensive hospital stay. It should not be the CNAʻs call to make if she was allowed to use the bathroom, or not. It should be considered that perhaps an older female patient does not want an adult diaper to be changed by a male employee, if it could be avoided. He has no idea what kind of trauma she might have experienced in her life. I donʻt know the name of that CNA, and donʻt intend to doxx him, but I wanted to make this incident known publicly because it infuriates me that my precious grandma had to go through it. She didnʻt even want to complain, but my mom did after she learned this happened. Queens needs to do a training of ALL of their staff to ensure that they are treating patients with even the most basic level of respect. I love Queen's and had given birth to all my 3 children there, that even my mom gave birth to me there as well. As you see this hospital means a lot to me and my family. But this time was different when we're back for our fourth baby. While admitted at The Queen's Medical Center for the birth of our fourth baby, my husband used the hospital valet service on 5/13/2026 at around 11:30 AM as I was going into active labor. Our vehicle remained in valet custody overnight. The following day, Thursday on March 14, 2026, around 11:00 AM, my husband retrieved the vehicle to run errands and discovered that the inside of our van had clearly been rummaged through. Cash and other small personal items were missing. A report was immediately made to hospital security, and a statement was taken. While the amount stolen may be considered minor, the violation of privacy and trust during such a vulnerable and important family moment is extremely upsetting. We understand valuables should never be left in vehicles, but patients and families should still be able to expect professionalism, honesty, and security from a hospital valet service -- especially during overnight stays connected to medical care and childbirth. We hope management takes this matter seriously and properly investigates the incident. read more

It's unfortunate that my overall experience with this technologically advanced medical facility is that visitors and patients MUST fend for themselves with the greatest degree of determination and an inappropriate amount of effort. No other medical facility on Oahu has been this challenging to navigate. Throughout my husband's urgent situation, I had so many questions that no one person or persons could or would make the effort to answer. There were also questions that I didn't know to ask until the problem presented itself. Problems that clearly could've been avoided if only corporate and staff took a moment to identify with a visitor's actual real-time experience in order to improve on where they've left potholes in their way of doing things for people to trip up on. Despite how proactive an individual chooses to be, Queen's Medical Center in general has not been user friendly for me. To add to an already difficult time for patients and their loved ones, the epitome of corporate failure is their Punchbowl campus. It's the perfect example of oversight at its finest. Disorganized inefficiency repeatedly showing up to burden visitors with more unnecessary issues to solve on their own. Their system might work fine for them, but it is a logistical nightmare for the rest of us. To add insult to injury, there's an occasional disconnected indifferent staff member to brighten your day with stone cold apathy. On the day of surgery, I transferred my husband into the lobby and approached Guest Services to request a wheelchair. The person sitting behind the counter clearly possessed zero skills for relating to guests. I just had my 5th baby here at queens! I've always came to queens since baby #1. Every single time I've had nothing but a positive experience. The staff is always so nice & caring & attentive. Atmosphere is always so nice & chill, from labor & delivery to the postpartum rooms. If I had to say 1 critique it would be that they could update the bathrooms but it's really only a 2 day stay so I just deal with it... Food selection is actually pretty good to me, the after birth hunger is real. I use my meals to the fullest when I'm there lol. Easy to just call & place your order for breakfast/lunch/dinner. Also the menu didn't have smoothies but they do have, just ask. What I really came here for was to leave a review about my one nurse that really went out of her way for me & my Ohana. Nurse Jessica! She was so nice & helpful. It really made my postpartum stay enjoyable. She was my nurse on the night shift & was sad that I had to change nurses throughout, but the morning of my discharge she was my nurse again & it was so nice to see her again before leaving, she really made us feel comfortable & she was so caring & sweet. Shirley been in 5 states 36 facilities in 8yrs and been fired from Tripler and Struab but then he goes to Queens and abuses the Hawaii Right to Life law by taking advantage of an autistic adult patient**He put me in hospice without a serious condition or fatal and tried to harm me by allowing the air around my heart to cause a heart attack. I am a local musician that has been playing in Hawaii all my life and love to play and dont want to stop playing, I told that to hospice but Dr. shirley wouldn't even talk to me again or wanted to let me live. He doesn't have the right to take my life, when scaring me to not live. I'm suing, filiing RICO charges and thinking of doing charges on him* in the middle of the night he got in my face with a tube in my throat & 2 other ppl & told me i was going to have a poor quality of life and should go* Wife told rn tiffany that he wants to live & she started to yell at me to put the tube back down my throat, then wife yelled at her to stop talking to me. After the bad scene where no staff wanted to help me to live. I walked into the ER feeling like my brain was firing off electric waves, nausea, lightheadedness, chest pain, the whole storm. My EKG came back irregular, yet somehow I was treated for indigestion. They documented my visit as fainting, weakness, and chest pain... which is accurate, but the care didn't match the concern. A full day gone, and I'm walking out exactly how I walked in, no answers, no relief. It's frustrating how quickly communication gets dismissed when you're clear and articulate. You'd think that would help... not work against you. They told me to visit my primary Dr for the brain scans and any other studies I wish to have. This is the reason I hate visiting hospitals- they gaslight you and don't listen to you, they treat what they want to treat. read more

Patient room section nurses and aides are AWFUL. There are one or two that are on top of things. Our patient couldn't walk so when things like more water or an alarm going off in the room, patient pushes call button and no one comes. You can see the staff sitting and talking story but do not answer the calls for help. Discharge day was a surprise to everyone working. It's like there's nothing that would give the nurses that info. Not too mention the woman the works at the pharmacy. Patient is wheeled to pharmacy and has to wait. Wheelchair leaves. Patient gets meds and is told you have to go. Why the hell do I see my person hobbling out the hospital on crutches? I guess having a joint replaced is t serious enough for wheelchair assist. I will not go here. Send me to tripler. What happened to QMC? As a former employee, it saddens me to see how things have changed over the years. ED staff gossiping on the unit for patients and family nearby to hear. When I asked for help, staff RN placated me and said Mom's RN was somewhere on the unit, but he returned to his gossiping/chatting group. There were a group of male staff at the nurse's station chatting away. QMC was once the best hospital on Oahu, known for excellent patient care, quality services, and professional staff who took pride in their work. My wife and I are here for the birth of our fourth child. We have come here for all 4, in fact. There are 2 outstanding things that have not changed throughout the 6 years we have been coming here: friendly staff and the tasty food. The bed-side service from staff is amazing in the Labor and Delivery department! The nurses we interacted with are interpersonal and makes you feel like family. During our recent 3 day stay here all you really do is eat and sleep while the patients (mother and child) are getting tested until cleared. So ordering food was the best part for me. Unfortunately it is a service to be paid for so each meal is a flat rate of $10 for the guest and complimentary for the patient. Another food fact is that they do push a food cart around if you cannot wait for the meal times to order. The food cart is more expensive and you have to buy the good stuff before the nurses get to it. They do give you a complimentary special dinner as well in celebration of the birth of your child(ren). They even give a gift. Queens is a great place to deliver your newborns. I do recommend coming here. read more

This hospital is extremely filthy. Idk who's managing this place, but please don't take your loved one there. This place ain't it. The staff is okay depending on who you get. They just all seem done with their jobs. Their boss or supervisor also talks loudly about shifts to them and it's uncomfortable to hear grown ass adults be told what to do in the tone that person used with the staff. I was going to say some ish about the staff, but after I heard their crap boss, I've gotten a better understanding of why this place has gone to hell. 1. It is filthy af! You can see the layers of grime and grease on the floors in the ward we were in. My shoes literally got stuck to the goddamn floor and at first I thought maybe I stepped on a spot that wasn't cleaned up, but no. It was the entire fricken floor of that ward. You can visibly see - even if you had bad eyesight - the probably months old dirt that will need a real cleaning. The lady that came 2 days later to clean only was using a swiffer mop which was flimsy at best and couldn't even handle 2 square feet of the dirty floor. The tables and chairs are old and look like they probably have bedbugs. Like I thought the cushion was brown, but no...it was originally a different color (green??) but it's just THAT filthy. 2. Bedside manner of nurses are not that great but some of them did what they could. Your patient's comfort is not their priority. They are overworked and probably don't get paid what they deserve. Recently visited the Emergency Urgent Care at Queen's Medical Center this past Monday 1/13/25. Here's my thoughts of that day. Excellent interaction and treatment from the entire emergency staff and doctors who assisted me. Very pleased with my results and progress. Staff was exceedingly thorough and attentive to my needs. Everyone was very personable, patient, and caring. Answered all my questions regarding my health. Extremely grateful and satisfied. The highly qualified staff included Urgent Care ER techs, Russell and Daven who attended me during my entire stay. Other ER techs that are worth mentioning were Madeleine, Kelly, and Charles, including my Consultation Doctor, Taichi Imamura. All these people made my short visit very remarkable. They all performed their duties over and beyond. Unfortunately, there are additional people that I had forgotten their names. Emergency Department staff work very hard from beginning to end on their daily shifts. Words alone cannot fully describe my gratitude for their unselfish work and dedication to their mission. Doctor Taichi Imamura was very attentive and patient. Answered all my queries regarding my condition that day. Gave me a complete printout of my comprehensive diagnosis before getting discharged from the hospital. My accolades of my utmost appreciation for them all. Well deserved! This was at the cafeteria, the short order cook was quite rude. A plain cheeseburger was ordered and the cashier stated that information to him. He instead handed us tomatoes and the patties. I asked him to add the buns, cheese and to remove the tomatos, he must need hearing aids instead he asked if I wanted to add only lettuce. So I repeated plain cheeseburger. No apologies instead he snapped and said you should have told me. I ordered one the other day, didn't inform him and he got it right. I went in for chest pains... I believe I got good medical care, but the waiting room was insane with people screaming and throwing up. Homeless were coming for treatment of sandwiches and OJ. Okay first off I want to start by saying that if any expecting mothers are looking for a place to give birth it NEEDS TO BE HERE! I came into labor and delivery at The Queens Medical Center on June 27th at 5 am. I was originally seen by a doctor I didn't care for all too much she had wrote me off once before when I came in for pain thinking I was going into early labor and was quite dismissive. Thankfully I came in at the perfect time this time around because I only saw her once and they did a shift change and OH BOY the following team I got was incredible! I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH to nurse Jamie, nurse Ashley, and Dr. L Xiong for being so attentive that morning and getting me through the worst contractions. Not only did they make it a point to acknowledge my pain and ask me how far away I lived so that I wasn't driving back home in active labor but they took my concern so seriously because I had my membranes swept 15 hours prior to showing up and the pain was so intense. They kept me calm and kept checking in on me, my doula and my other half. Such an attentive team. I labored with them until I hit 5 cm and had my waters broken by another attending physician (Dr. Soon). The pain just amped up after that and since I had chosen to do it naturally they all were super supportive of my decision. I experienced another shift change and got my dream team of nurses and doctors. My OB wasn't there but this was her team of experienced physicians and nurses. Nurse Ginger had come in on that shift and she was my lifesaver when I was drowning in pain. She was extremely detailed and kind. I caved and asked for the epidural she then had let me know all the steps we had to take while getting the catheter in and she was there for every step. The anesthesiologist Dr. Slaten explained the epidural in great detail and walked me through every step because it was my first time receiving an epidural while delivering since I gave birth to my first naturally in guam. Truth be told I should've held out on the epidural because as soon as he had finished putting it in I was fully dilated and ready to push so sadly the epidural did not work at all. I felt everything but that was completely okay with me. I was just happy I had progressed on my own and was able to see the finish line and meet my baby. When it came time to pushing I had Dr. Natavio deliver my baby boy and nurse ginger along side her helping me with my other half. They helped me get baby out in under six minutes. WITHOUT TEARING. He made it out basically naturally and completely healthy. They were the biggest cheerleaders and helped me feel so confident and comfortable doing what my body told me to do. I couldn't be happier with the delivery team I got. When it came time to transfer baby and I over to postpartum care nurse Ginger wheeled me over and handed me off to a wonderful team of night nurses Nurse Donie and her aide. They took care of baby my partner and I that night and were just calm and reassuring presences. The following day came and they let my partner follow them for all my baby's checkups and test and managed to get me discharged that same night after the 24 hour tests which my baby passed with flying colors. Special mentions: to my OBGYN Dr. Prestosa and the team of doctors and nurses at Queens Medical center Maternity Services (Dr. Hu too for checking on me in the postpartum ward after my delivery). to the team that prepared the Celebratory dinner my partner and I received the day we were in the hospital! The last chemotherapy pill they gave our brother almost killed him, and he's fighting for his life. PS - I haven't included the doctor's name yet on social media, but I will. How is the family members to sit and wait when Queens Employees are taking their break and eating their lunch in the waiting area? The whole half of the waiting area is being occupied by them eating and talking. Don't they have an employee break room? Its so disturbing and noisy, I couldn't even think and make phone calls to reschedule my dads appointments and call family members. I would like to give Queens Medical Center and staff a huge Thank You! We gave birth to our beautiful baby right before Christmas and we had a wonderful experience. The staff were amazing from triage, to L&D, c-section, anesthesia, postpartum/recovery. We could not have asked for better care. This was not my first c-section and the experience we had at Queens was way better than the other hospital. The nurses and providers were professional and compassionate and they strived to keep me comfortable throughout the whole birth process. In October 2014, I had a cold and fainted when I went to brush my teeth one evening. I fell backwards and hit my head on the tile floor. I came-to about half an hour later with a crack in my skull. The next morning I could not remember the names of my parents and had to rely on muscle memory for entering my code to unlock my phone. My dad got on a plane and came to Honolulu, I was living on-campus at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa at the time, and took me to the closest full-scale medical hospital with a fully equipped emergency room - it was The Queen's Medical Center. Upon arrival, I was asked to fill out a number of forms and then a few of the trauma nurses/doctors helped us to an emergency room area with beds for patients and a few chairs in a shared space. By the time we got to the hospital an external hematoma had formed on the outside of my scalp (pooled blood on the surface of my skin). They told me that had I made it in earlier they would have given the wound staples, however since the external hematoma had formed we went with a natural healing. They did a scan of my head and found no foreign/undesirable fluids in my brain cavity. Currently, as of Tuesday 12 September 2023, I am still working through my long term memory loss (also called amnesia), which is worse for before I turned 17 years old. A blood test/white blood cell count revealed I had a virus, though nothing severe. All of the workers were helpful and considerate. I visited Queen's Medical Hospital to see a friend in ICU. The care from the staff on the 5th floor Emma Wing is impressive. It takes a truly remarkable person to care for patients in the ICU. Nurse Tiffany is a rare gem. If I needed care, this is a hospital of Care and concern. Hawaiian culture at its best! read more

Takes sooooo long. Doctors don't spend much time with you either do the nurses. There are some great employees here. Overall my experience is bad as don't really listen to issues or how follow up. The worst part is they lie like crazy in their clinical notes. Read them interesting what out in there compared to what they did, very different and issue management should address as falsely stating medical records is illegal. read more

I wish that no one contract COVID19. My brother fought over 40 days and recovering very slowly before he heads to Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific. COVID19 really attacks all the organs, and decondition the body in general. But I wish to talk about the unsung hero's. The doctors, nurses, nurses aides, and ward support staff help to keep everything operating and give such great care to the COVID patients, Today, physical therapy came in and helped my brother get up then, walk out of his room. Since he's been bedridden for so long...the whole staff clapped, cheered, flex arms muscles and some cried as he walked encouraging back to his room. As his nurses came into his room, they cheered and congratulate him. This brought me to tears... the attention to the care was unbelievable. The team thought he wasn't going to make it after being admitted to ICU care for second time. When that happens, you're lucky if you ever leave ICU. But, he's made it!!! Of course they are the mainstay of COVID19 PROTOCOLS. Temperature taking, masks wearing, vaccinations, and IDs despite opening up on December 1, 2021. So, he's a miracle!!!! Thank you Queens!!!
