It's a wonderland of beautiful things. A collage of separate structures comprise the store. The main building sells a motley assortment of knick-knacks, perfumes, toiletries, hand bags, and scarves. The other buildings house artwork, furniture and home decor items. Some pieces are modern, others are retro or refurbished. All objects are very expensive and unless you are an oil tycoon or professional athlete, it serves only as showcase for aspirational living. My quest to find a fancy 20-dollar bottle of detergent by The Laundress led me to this store. This store is definition of cool. It carries all sorts of little things that I would have never imagined to find in Houston. From Santa Maria Novella's potpourri to Eames Ottoman, this store has all the high-end stuff for megaballers who have really good taste. While it's not like every item is outrageously expensive, it primarily caters to the housewives of River Oaks. Like mentioned in the previous reviews, if you don't somehow fit into the demographic, you don't really get the treatment. I was trying to find The Signature Detergent by The Laundress. When I asked for assistance to the SA who was on the other side of the floor, she didn't even bother to come to this side of the room. She just said "what do you need help with?" I just started asking about very specific questions about the brand and she finally acknowledged me b/c I guess she thought I was cool enough. The detergent was sold out but the SA said I should wait until the next week because they were expecting a new stock and informed me about a 20% discount. I guess the customer profiling here is a two-tiered process. 1) Are you a rich River Oaks house wife? No ... Go to 2 2) Do you know your stuff? No ... you'll be ignored Anyway, the buying (as in the types of products they sell) here is excellent. Sort of reminds me of stores like Conran Shop, BALS, and HH style. I really thought about giving this place a three stars for the really pretentious, crappy service but the prices here are actually pretty fair for what they are and wide range of niche high end products kind of make up for it. read more

Fairly new to Houston, and so I stopped in while in the area. I was not impressed. It seemed chaotic and I was over the "holier-than-thou" attitude not soon after coming in. The sales people could not have been more rude or uninterested in assisting anyone really. Thankfully I know an excessive amount about most of the brands they carry, but I cannot imagine going in there with a question and actually being helped. Being raised here in Houston I have been a frequent shopper at K.L. Since I'm in sales, I have purchased many closing gifts for clients at this store. I have always admired the beautiful bedding and the store's exquisite gift items. This weekend my husband and I bought a new King size Stearns and Foster mattress and went straight to K.L. to buy bedding. The "sales" people would not help me!! Said my mattress was too small for their sheets. I asked if I bought more mattress pads would I be able to use any of the sheets in the store. They said no- and told me to go to Bed, Bath, and Beyond! Yikes! Really? I guess that is better than them suggesting I go to the Dollar Store. read more

If you don't walk out of Kuhl-Linscomb smelling and feeling like you're worth a darn, then you probably aren't. That is all.

THE GOOD: 1) Wonderful selection of home goods - especially the kitchenware and the dishes. Among the best selection in the city. Not that you cannot find everything here elsewhere, it is just that KL has it in one spot. 2) The book and knick-knack section is great. I do not know why I find it so amusing but I do. 3) Good linens and bath selection 4) Great place to find gifts - especially hostess gifts 5) If you are having a party, this is my first store to make sure that I have everything that I may need for my table 6) The truth is - I rarely get out of there without buying something THE BAD: 1) Customer service is spotty. Some days it is very good. Other days not so good - they are standing around the desk talking among themselves or filing their nails or something. It is hit or miss. 2) Set up is not great - especially that multiple buildings. It would be better to purchase / rent one large building and put everyone in there and also provide more space for certain sections so they do not seem so crowded. There are some buildings that I do not bother to even visit just because it is inconvenient. 3) They never seem to have full sets of their dishes and I feel like I always have to do a special order with them to get what I want. When I say "full set" I am not talking about 12-14 of each. I mean they will have a plate but not a bowl. Or they will have the bowls in blue and the plates in green. 4) The perfume section could knock you unconscious. 5) Parking is terrible (but what else is new in Houston?) 6) Do not order anything from here. It takes FOREVER. At least 6 weeks - even for things that I have also ordered online direct and which arrived in a week. read more

It took me forever to finally go in Kuhl-Linscomb and now I can't figure out why! They are like a department store (housewares, furniture, makeup counter, clothes) but has such a cool vibe. I really like a place that I can buy a dish drainer and missoni socks. It does take some time to tour the whole campus, but I really enjoy seeing how they style things (think dinner table, women's outfits, an holiday decor). If you are shopping for someone who has everything I would recommend checking this place out because of their unusual selection. I plan on going back to just to see what I can find! read more

I officially am in love... with a store. It's Kuhl-Linscomb... This place is like walking into a fairyland of good smelling, beautiful to look at and good for you products. Not to mention some of the most beautiful home decor I have come to experience in my fair city. They have a great selection of art, architecture and fashion books and great gift ideas. This is the place I go when I buy a gift for that special someone who deserves the best. I cannot even describe the delight I enjoy poring over the jewelry display cases. I got lost in this place. Seriously. I was drawn into Kuhl-Linscomb the first time because they carry jewelry designed by a friend of mine. I stopped by for a quick gift on the way to a baby shower... and after wandering around the store for an eternity, was directed to the children's section- in another building. Making the trek across the street, through the store, around the corner, through the secret passageway and up the stairs, I finally found a fairly limited selection of baby-oriented items. That is, excepting the $600 Baptism Gowns (that were beautiful and probably worth every penny) and the silver baby rattles for engraving. I finally found some plush stuffed animals, a baby kimono, some organic onesie sets, and a book called Baby Gami (dedicated to the intricate art of wrapping your baby like a burrito). Delighted by my fantastic finds, I went to go check out... but after these items added up to over $250, I realized I would undoubtedly love my friends' baby, but perhaps not THAT much. Determined not to be defeated, I later returned to take a better look around, bringing a good friend with me for good-judgment-wallet-protection. And I got lost. Literally. Somewhere in building 2 or 3, I thought I'd have to set up camp and wait to be found... rationing out the lemon-pie flavored toothpaste I picked up in building 1 for survival. (Think I'm kidding? Check out the Breath Palette product line they carry.) Kuhl-Linscomb easily qualifies as the eighth wonder of the world- not only for sheer size, but for the lifestyle choices it offers its clientele. (I've always wanted a $375 bathrobe- haven't you? $50 for dog shampoo? Why, of course!) I plan on visiting the store regularly- if only to buy the discounted and gently used sample candles located in the forsaken sale attic in building 3- or was it 4? All joking aside, the buyers have obviously put a great deal of thought into the lines and designers that they carry. If you don't mind the pricing, it's certainly a wonderful place to find unique gifts and home decorating treasures. The hygiene products alone merit a visit- to building 1 at the very least. I could spend hours here..ok maybe I have spent hours here but that's only because the place is huge! It's five buildings huge that are not attached but easily set up so that you can walk around and enjoy it. They offer a wide range of items including things from home decor to stationary items to makeup and perfume to candles. Although it's a bit pricey you can tell this is one of those places that you are paying for quality over quantity. read more

The product selection at K&L always seems great. There are so many interesting and fun house items. I just want to high-five the store's buyers because they make shopping fun with their selections. Plus, the store has so many different rooms to discover new items in. The only downside is during my last visit is that we were ignored 1/2 the time when needing some help and were snapped at by a floor manager with a very cold tone for not using the correct perfume spray papers (weird and off putting), who then quickly darted off before we could ask for help. Why the coldness?? This is retail shopping-be at ease everybody. It is funny how cold or no customer service can curb your appetite to come back for more shopping. Worst place! I went in shopping and the store was a mess as usual. This time they were moving shelving units, tables and product. I guess they were re-doing the store. There was no clear paths to walk, there was s**t every where! I tripped over a chandelier just sitting on the floor. I saw another customer hit her head on a shelf! This is rediculous Kuhl-Linscomb! How have you not been sued?! This is dangerous! When I used to work retail, we re-merchandised when the store was closed. I hate Anna who works in the jewelry department. She is overly friendly, loud and obnoxious and kept calling my 80yr old grandmother 'girl'...? Every time I shop here, she draws so much attention to herself. I've heard her cuss and complain. What a great place to shop for gifts! This store is MASSIVE! So carve out a decent amount of time so you can soak it all in! They have very unique brands that they carry, which is one of the best parts. They have stationary, gift goodies, children's clothes/gifts/toys, jewelry, candles (oh the candles!!!), beauty products, furniture, linens, dishes, dog products, and the list goes on! Positives: All the reviews about the stock this store carries are absolutely correct - really fun stuff - loved the niche fragrances, love the layout, love that it's packed to the rafters. Lots of inspiration. Negatives: The most rude and pretentious sales associates ever!!! I have never received the coldness I got at this store - and I was a paying customer. Many have mentioned that the staff stands around talking amongst themselves - I saw this too and would be willing to overlook this if they even looked in my direction and acted somewhat helpful - but no. Really nifty ideas for home decor this place is quite a showcase with a unique vibe to it! Different showcases are dispersed in a number of different houses, all designed for you to walk through a given path. A lot of inspiration for interior designers and artists can be found. It is definitely unique, but all that comes at an expense. Kuhl-Linscomb is absolutely stunning. If you want to see at least a half of merchandise you would definitely have to spend several hours browsing through it. There is a great decision to give a map to the customers so they could easily find a necessary store, but I usually aimlessly walk through the stores on purpose to find something interesting. I'm so wishing there was a "half" option because this store deserves a 4.5 rating. It deserves an 8, frankly, but the scale is a five. I've taken off a half point only due to the need to run between rare Houston raindrops or scorching sun rays to visit all this magnificent retail mecca has to offer in multiple sites that are in close proximity but, alas, not under cover. That, plus the limited offerings of women's and men's clothing items that would allow them to compete with well known department stores lead me to shave off a bit of star shine. Having said that, they offer the unique brands of fashion that big box stores wouldn't carry so it's a bit of a wash. Pick a beauty/fashion magazine. Any beauty/fashion magazine. Turn to its "Must Haves!" pages. Then turn to its "Fabulous New Finds!" pages. Tear out the page, then march (or drive...this is Houston after all...) to Kuhl-Linscomb next to the Whole Foods at Kirby and Alabama and find the vast majority of anything listed on those torn-out pages. Whoever the buyers are at KL, they surely have their talented fingers on the pulse of the prodigious retail market of hundreds of categories. I've lost track of how many times I've introduced Kuhl Linscomb to friends who are used to auto-piloting to "the mall" for shopping forays and said, "Yes, those are my dinner plates"....Or, "Yes, those are my reading glasses"...Or, "Yes, that's the lipstick I found.."And, "Yes, that's the comforter I have on my guest bed." Whether I want time-tested quality or fast-fleeting fun & trendy, this is my go-to store. And I would be remiss if I didn't give kudos to Asher Marquez - the best make-up artist in the city. I was racially profile while walking to the store with several items in my hand. I frequently shop at that store and for me to be profiled doing a time such as holiday is really discouraging. I drove all way from Montgomery Texas to be profiled and left with nothing how frustrating. Colllins gum has yet to respond to me and Dan and Pam have yet to even call. Dan and Pam are the owners of Colllins Kim, this is piss poor. As I read the reviews below, it seems I'm not the only one being treated this way. I love the Kuhl Linscomb store, my friend took me there and I hadn't been back until last week. They have the greatest hair and bath products as well as lots of fun stuff for the home and pets. Kuhl-Linscomb is one of my favorite stores in Houston. In their main building, they have a fantastic selection of skincare (Mario Badescu is my favorite), cosmetics, candles, soaps, teas, books, and all kinds of gifts. The other buildings are pretty neat too, though I don't really shop here for linens or furniture. The furniture/linens/silverware/housewares can be quite pricey, but they are very well curated and clearly quality items. They carry some hair and skincare lines you can't find anywhere else in the city. read more

I was in the need for some retail therapy and on a mission to find products from Santa Maria Novella and boy did I find both at Kuhl Linscomb. 5 buildings full of the prettiest stuff imaginable! How clever of them to give new use to old houses! The store is spread over four different show rooms and each is a different part of your home. They have a wide variety of styles and I'm sure that anyone would find something to please. If ever I win the Texas Lottery this is where I will be spending the winnings! Be forwarned 25 dollar handsoap is the norm. Over priced, yes. Worth it? Hell yes, every penny! I found that the sales staff was relatively helpful, though getting their attention can be a bit of a challenge. I was there on a sleepy Sunday afternoon and once I had made the initial round I had no problem finding a sales associate to help me with my selection. I will defilnetly make this a regular shopping destination and I can't wait till I can drag my sisters here too! read more
