We started to send our oldest child here when they started second grade. They were falling behind in school and we needed them to catch up. We heard a lot of good things about Kumon from other students and signed them up. Our kids had a little bit of a struggle in the beginning to figure out how to do the work, but once he did, there was nothing stopping them after that. They have gotten so much better and now going into fourth grade they are above grade level in reading and math. Miss Ruby is great to work with and has great feedback for the kids. The staff always seems friendly and willing to help out. I would recommend any friends and family to this location if their kids had to get some extra help. read more

Made a phone call to inquire more information about the Kumon Center in Almaden. Spoke with Mrs. Ruby Vaswani and set up a meeting and assessment time. My husband, son and I went in the evening for our appointment. Our son was given a reading assessment while we met with the owner of the Kumon Center, Mrs. Ruby Vaswani. We were given more information about Kumon Math and Reading and what to expect should we join. Our son finished his assessment, we finished our meeting and we decided to sign up. The one time registration fee we paid was $80 for the reading program, our first monthly payment was $150 and the pre-payment for the following month was $150. So to start our initial costs were $380. Our son went to Stratford Academic Summer Camp in Los Gatos the summer before kindergarten started and it exceeded our expectations of learning. The Stratford Academic Summer Camp helped our son and he enjoyed attending. He then attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Saratoga and the kindergarten curriculum fell short of our expectations as we saw the kind of work he was completing. We moved him to Achiever a Christian School (for kindergarten) in the Willow Glen area of San Jose and the curriculum exceeded our expectations and was just as enriching as what our son experienced at the Stratford Academic Summer Camp. To get our son up to speed with the curriculum at Achiever Christian School we decided to enroll our son at Kumon. Our son's classwork the first week at ACS was 8/10, then the following week 9/10 and eventually 10/10. Kumon is a very positive influence on our son. My husband and I view Kumon as a place that helps to exercise our son's learning muscles so to speak. We also decided to send him to the Math portion of Kumon. Our regular charges for both Kumon Math and Reading total $300 monthly. Mrs. Ruby Vaswani and her team of tutors are simply wonderful- they are smart, kind and patient (Miss Ellie and Mr. Martin are awesome!!!) We feel very thankful to find such a great center to help our son. Our son attends twice a week and is given work packets. Kumon requires dedication on both the parent and child's part- going there weekly, completion of daily Kumon work packets (even on the weekends). I cannot say enough good things about the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Almaden. I highly recommend the Almaden location of Kumon Math and Reading to family and friends!!! Ruby and team have been a great guide for my son. My son started with Kumon in Almaden Kumon center in 2016 for Math and Reading. It has been a great supplemental course for him. He not only picked speed, but confidence too, which is reflected very well on his performance in school. The practice has assisted him in installing concepts quickly and increased his capacity to learn greatly. Taking the course alongside school also helped him have a great foundational basis of concepts before covering the topic in school. Ruby spent the time to understand our situation and our challenges. She even motioned to speak with my son's teacher to get more detail on how far behind he had fallen. She knew we were up against deadlines and she customized a tutoring plan for my son in both math and reading. The structure and work provided to my son not only helped him prepare for the next grade but he has displayed more confidence in what he achieves. I am proud to say that my son is now at the levels where he should be for his age bracket but he's also breaking out of his shell and it's wonderful to watch. Rather, it is a place to solidify your child's academic foundation so that a strong structure can be built on top. Think of it more as a second school for your child that specializes in reading and math. Your child's first visit will be a test of their current skills then receive small workbooks starting at just under their abilities to gain trust and self esteem. Kumon classes are held two evenings per week. Each time your child attends, he or she will work onsite in their little workbooks until they finish to build accountability. When your son or daughter leaves for the night, he or she will have a homework packet to complete, one for each day until they return to Kumon. Kumon takes breaks that coincide with your child's school schedule. Ms. Ruby is flexible with the workload for your child. And if you have to miss a day or two due to vacation or illness, Ms. Ruby can assign homework to keep your child on track or skip it so you can enjoy a break. The work will resume when your child returns to Kumon. This resource is a great way to support your child academically and see them rise above their peers. I signed my daughter up for Kumon to help her master basic math skills. She started at a lower level and very quickly progressed and not only became fast at basic skills but also started performing above her school level. Two years in she was able to skip a level of math in school. I recommend this center as they have been very helpful and accommodating to our needs. My parents enrolled me in Kumon when I was four years old to learn math and reading and it was one of the best decisions made for my education. Not only was I excelling at school and above grade level, I truly found a love for math. Kumon teaches students to be independent and learn to follow steps which is very helpful in the long run. Ms. Ruby does an excellent job of making sure each child's needs are met. She doesn't rely on a computerized program to plan out the student's homework, instead, she self-prepares the students work, taking into consideration the students progress, strengths and weaknesses. Ms. Ruby makes sure the students know the material in depth and not just at a surface level. The center is staffed with tutors that know the subjects well to easily help the students with any problems they might have. The Kumon method of practice, practice, practice is very beneficial and that the students learn the material very well and achieve positive results. Since first enrolling in Kumon when I was in Kindergarten, I have been to three different Kumon learning centers. At other learning centers, I found myself making no progress; I was stuck on the same level for months or even years. Only with Ms. Ruby's help and support was I able to create a concrete plan for completing the Kumon Math program. What I really enjoy about this Kumon center is that it is well organized and created in such a way that addresses each student's individual needs. I have signed up my son about 1.5 year ago and he has been going to Kumon consistently. Initially it felt like a slow process, but Mrs. Ruby has advised me it will take time for them to build confidence and there is a repetition in the process. My son on the other hand loves math but could not sit and finish even few problems, now that he is enrolled in kumon he is able to do longer work sheets. This is a very long overdue review. My son started Kumon when he was 3.5 years old. Ms. Ruby is a great educator. She knows the strength and weakness of every single of her students. She is very smart and knows how to teach kids. She is supportive. We really like her. The only thing I don't like about the center was there was a high stuff turnover that was beginning of the this year. I don't know about current condition since we left. Both my kids go to kumon where under Ms.Ruby's carefully curated lesson plan and individualized attention, they continue to achieve the progress at the best rate possible for their skills and capabilities. I had started off my kids with Ms Ruby and her staff at the kumon on almaden expressway. Later on, due to relocation, I switched them over to another location. Ms Ruby did all that was required to make the transition easy for the kids. But the other centers closer home are nowhere close to ensure that the lesson plan meets the kids needs and capabilities. I could clearly see this difference and inspite of this location being out of the way, I moved the kids back. Needless to say, my kids are doing great and are very comfortable and confident at school on the math concepts. I see some reviews saying that the parents are accountable for the homeworks. This is the whole concept of Kumon. Most of us dont have time to design personalized learning plan and lessons for kids and track their progress as well as compare it to their peers. It instills discipline and it doesn't take a lot of time. And if it is taking to much time, go see Ms Ruby! She will adjust the homework load to be comfortable for parents and kids..and ultimately, it becomes a routine for the kids and a win-win for all. I highly recommend this kumon center in almaden. There's a lot of positive things to be said about Kumon (though your kid's willingness to engage will be a big factor in your own satisfaction). My son has certainly benefited from Kumon -- it's been a great move for us. But I would have never thought that in the process we would gain such an immensely valuable relationship with the Kumon Center -- specifically Ms. Ruby. Ms. Ruby has become one of the key adults involved in my son's education. His school teachers have all been great, while those relationships have been one academic year. We are going on four years of Ms. Ruby's involvement in my son's math achievement, and her sustained focus on his progress and personal development is something we will always be thankful for. This Kumon center, and Ms.Ruby in particular, have been hugely influential in improving math and reading for my children. I have 2 kids with very different personalities - one is tentative, hesitant and low on confidence. The other is eager, keen to please, and always up for a challenge. Ms.Ruby has been exceptional in supporting both my children: adapting the workload, homework, and class time management to suit both their styles. She has reached out to us often to either share guidance on how to help our kids do better, or to share their successes with us, and has been a key factor in both my children's education over the last few years. My children are also extremely comfortable going to her for help, and recognize that she cares deeply about their success.
