I love how Bensonhurst/86th street is slowly developing into a Chinatown so then we get all these great Asian restaurants/cafes like Kung Fu Tea around here :) I came in after work one day and decided to try it out since I've never had Kung Fu Tea before (too lazy to go all the way to 8th Ave!). I ordered the Green Tea with Less Sugar and Lychee jelly. It was pretty good but a little pricey. You definitely have to order less sugar because because if you don't, you will 1) become diabetic or 2) die from the sweetness. I also recommend getting less ice because then you get more of the drink. I like this Kung Fu Tea but the reason why I'm giving it 3 stars is because it took forever for my drink to be made and because every time I go in, there are always these high school kids talking really loudly and hogging up all the seating. Kung fu tea is one of my favorite bubble tea chains. It's pretty good! Bubbles are just a little sweet and chewy and teas actually taste like tea. It's completely customizable and they have a pretty efficient system in doing it. Bubble tea is too sweet for me so I get it with no sugar, but you can get it with little sugar (30% of the sugar) or less sugar (70% of the sugar). I also like to ask for less milk because they put too much milk. At this particular spot, the staff can take quite long to make your drinks! There's never that many people ordering. When you order hot drinks, they heat it in a microwave and it takes forever! Today, I ordered a drink, the girl put it in the sealing machine and left it there and went to make another drink. I had to just grab it while it was still in the machine instead of waiting for them to finish. Also, I ordered the same drink at 55th st/8th ave yesterday and it was cheaper than what I paid today here. Don't know if this place is more expensive in general or it was a mistake. This spot also sells macarons and cookies. I would never pay for macarons at a bubble tea place but once, I ordered the cookie. It was dry and not really good. Don't buy their sweets. I don't think they follow the sugar order. I always ask for no sugar on my drinks but it's still so sweet. My boyfriend says the same thing, he'll order 50% yet somehow mines is still sweeter than his. We both have sweet tooth but even with ordering 0% sugar it taste like they dump the whole bucket of sugar in the drinks. Also some of the staffs need some attitude check. Not sure what the pink haired employee's issue is, but whatever it is she needs to let it go at the door and do her job when she gets there. I've had no issues with any of the other employees but this one girl constantly has an attitude, no eye contact, acts like she's being bothered, purposely doesn't provide an order when ready- it was an order placed 15 min ago and is on the table, why tell the customer it's not ready and then proceed to watch them stand around while the next 6 customers that walk through the door get their order and leave??? I also had to order from their food menu as well to meet the card minimum, so I got two orders of their popcorn chicken as the other item I wanted was sold out. It's been a really long time since I ordered from Kung Fu Tea so I didn't know about the new cup design. It's really unique and I like that it's not the super slim shape some MT places go for. Depending when you go, you'll see a diverse range of people. mostly high school kids will be hanging here in the afternoons. The flavors here are great. This place is great to get your bubble tea fix. I've only had bubble tea from Quickley's before, but this place is much better. It's just as modern, and although it doesn't have nearly as many flavors, the ones I had (Passion fruit Green Tea and Green Milk Bubble tea) were very fresh and definitely satisfied my craving for bubble tea. The inside is really big. They have plenty of seating. That along with board games you can play, (if you buy 3 or more cups of tea) really encourage you to bring people along. The tea tastes great and is really fresh. The tapioca bubbles are excellent as well. It's kind of expensive but the quality is really worth it. Most Kung Fu tea locations don't even have enough standing room alone but this one is a full blown café sit down. The fast proliferating Kung Fu Tea chain finally opens a branch in Bensonhurst! In New York, Chinese tea places peddling lengthy variations of flavored cold and hot tea drinks, with or without additions like tapioca, are easy to find but few make those drinks to the standard found in Asia. Kung Fu Tea is one of the better ones in NYC, although I still hold my breath to see if they can maintain their quality as they continue to sprout in every Chinese neighborhood around the city. Just opened this weekend, this branch is one of the largest I've been to (second to the Queens Crossing location in Flushing), and relatively polished looking (unlike the 8th Ave branch, which looks perpetually unfinished). Plenty of seating at six two-top tables, a bar against the wall, and a curved bench with seats on both sides. The look is casual, plastic modern, and colorful. The menus are on the usual flat screen monitors. This branch basically has the same menu as all the other branches I've been to. My go-to drink with them has always been grapefruit green tea, with a nice, discernible tea flavor and fresh grapefruit juice (which can run out if you go late), and multiple levels of sweetness (you have to ask, its not advertised and you'll just get the default if you don't, although the default is perfect to me). They don't have as expansive a selection of flavors as most such shops, which is to their advantage as most of what they do carry is very fresh tasting. They also carry some unusual flavors, such as white gourd. Other favorites of mine are green bean or red bean wow milk drink (milky and dessert-like) and grapefruit yakult (grapefruit juice mixed with the Asian version of drinkable yogurt). Their tapioca pearls are one of the better versions I've come across in NYC, that beguiling mix of soft and chewy. The only major negatives of Kung Fu Tea stores is that they generally don't bother with frequent flyer cards (the buy 10, get one free variety) and they're relatively expensive. Hi Cafe down the block serves up a surprisingly good grapefruit green tea for $1 less and they have the frequent buyer bonus. I'll be buying from both, but I'm pretty loyal to the Kung Fu Tea brand, so very excited to have one in the neighborhood. read more
