Loved the station prior to Nov. 2024....great music (when you get to hear a variety of music and not constant replays of twelve common songs). HOWEVER, I've noticed that the station has gone completely Christmas-song themed recently (all day?) and well,...it's not even THANKSGIVING yet. What is up with this new holiday format??? The station has always seemed inclusive and yet, smooth jazz listeners are not being given the opportunity to hear what we love most -- (non-religious) jazz music. Is there a religious agenda happening or is someone convinced that there was too much great jazz music in the world? An occasional holiday song or two isn't a problem but..c'mon. There are those of us who don't do the religion part and you are telling us to take a hike. Please stop and play what we've come to enjoy from your channel. Save the holiday music for the actual holiday, if that's what you're going for. Otherwise, I'm switching off and going elsewhere. Thank you for listening. read more

I was listening to this station since I was attending UNLV during the 1990s (at the time, there was a college/ alternative format for a few hours). I've been listening to it consistently within the past few years (expanded it to be "Jazz and more"- I'm a big fan of smooth jazz. Weekend hours feature island music - limited hours (a big fan of this since we've been longtime visitors to the Hawaiian islands). I really like Galaxy Glen's positive vibe. I wanna say I know of him since the 1990s, maybe from another station. I also like the personalitiies in the morning too, The Queen of Flow, Carleah (I know her from another station too) & Kevin, John N (I don't know how to spell his name, sorry). Anyhoo, since the fornat has changed to "Jazz and More", I think that it's really improved a lot. I like hearing the nice mix of music (from DeBarge to Kool & The Gang to Earth, Wind & Fire to Sade- you really don't hear this too much on the other stations). I have a wide variety of music that I like to listen to, especially on my morning & evening commute. Thanks for bringing Jazz and More to the Las Vegas community. I love your station. This use to be my favorite station...I jazz! They changed formats and have totally messed this station up. I miss EVERYTHING when it was all jazz. All the DJs were the best in town with great radio voices and informative shows. Please bring all jazz format back....your "and More" add ons SUCK!!!! I once worked for a firm that insisted on playing Sunny 106.5 over the office PA system. Talk about cruel & unusual punishment. If you work for such a company see if you can talk 'em into switching to The Source. For compulsory listening it ain't half bad. If you listen long enough you'll hear some tasty tunes. Ya gotta love commercial free radio. The Source is a purveyor of "smooth" jazz, a format that evolved from "mood" music, "easy listening" and "soft rock" genres pioneered by 101 Strings, Ferrante and Teicher, and Montavani. The format smooths the rough edges off jazz to make it less challenging. It's jazz for those who don't really like jazz. It's not actually jazz but jazz-tinged or jazz-inspired. It's elevator music with jazz overtones. The station is a great source of blandness. Promotes regularity, like Metamucil. My car's disc player broke. It was either the Source, NPR, or no radio at all. They are the only radio worth listening to in the abysmal wasteland that's Vegas radio. It's horrifying that a college station should be so lame. A college station should be of the students, by the students and for the students. It should be daring and innovative. You should hear things you'll never hear anywhere else. This "college" station has been co-opted by crass commercial interests. Tell me it's not owned by the Beasley Broadcast Group, which brought "Smooth" jazz to Vegas a few years back with 105.7 The Oasis, a truly wretched radio station. read more

I mostly enjoy this radio station therefore, this review is based soley on the Little Grass Shack broadcasts.The DJs on LGS play great Hawaiian music however, the "Haole" racist comments and attitudes they promote are very offputting. Does anyone at KUNV monitor the negative racism agenda put forth by these DJs? Being from Hawaii myself, I find the comments absolutely not in keeping with the spirit of Love and Aloha. read more

Format change for the worse. Not a Jazz station anymore. A smattering of smooth jazz in between music picked by Don Cornelius's 3rd ex-wife and the occasional actual jazz music. The best part of the station is the current Sunday lineup (used to be Saturday's lineup) of Pamela, Hawaiian, Reggae, Blues, and Lyon's Den. Sunday is 5 stars and the rest of the week is 1 star. The playlist, for a college radio station, seems to have zero input from actual students. A real fucking shame. read more

KUNV has a new format. MAYBE 25% jazz and the rest gospel like , whatever you call old soft music with a drum machine added, almost all vocals of some sort. I heard Billy Joel this morning. What happened to the seriously knowledgeable Jazz aficionados they used to have? If i wanted to listen to an urban station I would have gone there. Plenty of those in Las Vegas. They don't play cuts that are longer than 4 Minutes. Time to look elsewhere, many real Jazz stations on the net still playing Jazz. read more

With Hawaiian, reggae, blues, world music, women's voices, KUNV is much more than jazz. The weekend programming is where it's at. Start listening around 10 AM on Saturdays and keep listening until late Sunday night. You will hear a new program about every 2-3 hours. It's really hard to pick favorites, but mine are Grass Shack, CQDX, and Latin Nights. KUNV's local hosts are knowledgeable volunteers who care about their genres. They actually talk about the songs and artists they play. I've listened every weekend for the past 6 years. When I moved here from San Francisco, I was afraid I'd lose one of my favorite driving styles of music, Jazz. I figured it'd all be dance and Jack Jones singing Luck Be A Lady -- which while I don't hate either, they just aren't the long takes of Bop that you can crave on a night's drive. KUNV embraces that long, cool history of jazz and gives it to you at any weekday hour. It's a college radio station you can hear from Jean, meaning you're never without it in the Valley. NPR and College of Southern Nevada bring us a great gem which got me to finally open my pocketbook after being such a... college student. My number one favorite radio station for listening to jazz! Need info on how to win those Boney James tickets !!!

Been listening to this station for years......many of them. However, there are 3 comments regarding the station now which is why I have moved it from what "once was" 4 to 5 stars to 2.5 or 3 stars. 1. The late night music (electronic / new age / world / whatever it is...) is just brutal as well as the hosts. 2. The daytime jazz remains a solid "plus", but should continue past 8pm. The jazz and blues (weekend) make for my only reasons to tune-in to KUNV 91.5 these days. 3. Here is the absolute worst part: UNLV basketball programming and announcing is not only "amateur hour", but is beyond horrendous. I have given these announcers a chance (including this evening's game vs. Air Force) and I feel as if they know very little about basketball, and when there is a stoppage on the floor, their dialogue is (and I honestly mean this) on par with a "High School" radio show. The scores are given backwards, and often times we have no idea who has the lead "if" the game is just turned on. Our basketball team / program at UNLV is legendary (we are proud of it) and the announcers should be at a level far, far superior to this. It is a total embarrassment. Tonight's game is nothing but yelling and screaming by the announcers combined with the fact that I have no idea where the offensive players are on the court at any time. A good sports radio announcer in basketball absolutely MUST give you a mental image of where the ball is on the court and where the players are in relation to it. This station with its cool Jazz and bop has always been a 5 star plus radio station with there 24hr soft jazz music. However, it the past month they have decided that they will now play Hawiian music between the hours of 5am-7am, five days a week. I have nothing against Hawaiian music but a little hawiian music goes a looooong way, Why play Hawaiian music during prime groove hours, it should be played late morning or early afternoon. I now have to switch stations between these hours. This is not good!!! Rich. read more

When I moved from Philadelphia, Penna., I never realized in a million years that I would be able to fulfill my dreams in becoming an on air hostess with a classical format. I was the first to operate my program at the Dunes Hotel, with-in an all glass interior which revolved enabling me to see the entire city of Las Vegas housed in the most magical Mountains that anyone could ever imagine. 1977-79 were my most memorable years of joy in my life. I wish that I had a Time- Machine. I was able to share the bliss with 1,000s of Classical listeners from 6:00am till 9:00am every morning . read more
