So beware that if you pick up an item from a 10$ area it might be there by mistake and you'll only find out when you come to pay, and they get very aggressive when you try to understand how the system works. Clothes are cool, just assume the price can be anything between 5 to 65$, location doesn't mean much.

What drew me to this place instantly was the yellow exterior, Aboriginal chief logo, and an appealing $10 sign. I had the impression it would be like the Black Market vintage store in Toronto - and it was. Almost all of the items were $10, except for some sweaters that were $25. There was a good selection of cool unisex t-shirts ranging from funny to raunchy, which amused the guys. They also have a nice variety of vintage clothing. There were flowy button-up blouses when you first walked in. Then to the right (in a different room) were plaid shirts, tops, sweaters, sweater vests, and cowboy boots. I found a lovely denim shirt for TEN BUCKS. Overall they are well organized, but I think it's also due to the fact that they don't have very much merchandise. I'd suggest you pop in for a quick peek and see if you fancy anything. It'll be hit or miss, but if you find something it'll definitely be a steal!

Did you ever need half a cup of ground almond for a recipe and didn't want to buy a whole bag…read more(knowing the rest would rot for eternity in your cupboard)? Now you can, at the new Bulk Barn downtown! I've been to Bulk Barn a few times (mostly in Ontario actually), and this one is SPOTLESS. There's a person going around cleaning all the mess people make with a small vacum, and all the shelves, tanks and other containers are super clean. Even the honey tap is non-sticky! This place is also a heaven for bakers. They have sugar pearls, food coloring, candy sparkles, etc. of every color, and even special cake molds that you can rent at 1.99$ per day! They have a wide range of products, ranging from apple pie filling (!) to pet treats (e.g. dog biscuits). There's all kinds of flours, condiments, spices, health supplements, candies, pasta, and even some ethnic products, such as the classic Filipino Sunflower crackers. Prices are not always the cheapest, however - it's still good to compare between different shops. Bulk Barn might also not be for you if you usually go for brand products. But, it's great place to try if you want a specific volume of something, or just want to try, let's say, chia seeds for the first time but not sure if you'd like it... Note: Right now Valentine candies are 15% off!

There are random carts littered throughout with random items sold for shockingly low prices. As many other people have mentioned, there is a metric fuck ton of dried fish in the back. Yes, it's grungy in there, and smells weird, and is full of salty people, but I was able to get bags of groceries that fed me for an entire week for about $10. Admittedly that was a while ago, and I was a vegetarian back then, and I weighed less than 100 lbs, but hey I lived to tell this story. I was back at Segal's this past week, for a stroll down memory lane, and with the exception of some new security cameras and TV screens, it's exactly how I remembered it. It's still poorly lit. The refrigerated sections still have those yellowing plastic curtains. The floors are still dirty and it still smelled weird. Prices are a bit higher, but I would say keeping with inflation. They stock a few more organic items now. The bulk items used to just be in open tubs (like at Bulk Barn, minus the coverings), but are now in plastic garbage/recycling bins, with lids, lol. The "scoops" are plastic water jugs that are tied to the bins. Most are cracked or broken. I found this amusing. This place has apparently been around since 1927. Maybe it's just nostalgia speaking, but I have a soft spot in my heart for its "this is who I am, warts and all, take it or leave it" attitude.
