Location is closer to me but I'd rather go to other Asian stores selling way cheaper alternatives for Japanese good/pantry staples.

I've been to this grocery store throughout the years purchasing Japanese products, usually ramen, snacks, pasta sauce, and freshly made onigiri. The store has plenty of Japanese sauces, teas, snacks, noodles, condiments, and a small section of frozen foods and produce. Half of the store also has Japanese porcelain - bowls, plates, cups, etc. The staff are always super friendly and if you want to use visa there is a $10 minimum spend (which is hard not to do). Sometimes in the summer Sanko also has a clearance sale where you can get discounted Japanese porcelain for cheap (sometimes the bowls and cups have some imperfections but they are not that noticeable). Overall, my fave Japanese grocery store in the Trinity Bellwoods are! A must visit if you want to find some Japanese groceries or porcelain.

They were a bit pricy but it's invaluable to let people from Taiwan to feel the sense of reminiscence of hometown.

They also make rice noodles and soy milk fresh. I saw in a previous review that there's a chance they don't give the sweetened soy milk but there's labels and you can check it yourself... They have it in the fridge separated by sweetened and unsweetened and it's all freshly made. I usually get their flat rice noodles a little over $2 a pound, bring it home, and stir fry it myself. Sometimes it's still hot in the bag so I bring an envirobag to make sure the heat isn't too much. Also, make sure you don't go too early because they don't usually make it until noon so if you go earlier than that, they won't have any in stock. The staff is generally friendly and are helpful if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. They'll tell you what is freshly made and what is in stock. Overall, they're a great supplier of soy milk and rice.

I am look forward to picking up some fresh tofu and soy based products in the future! On a recent visit, there also seems to be Buddhist style vegetarian platters refrigerated as well! This is one our family favourite shopping centre and we have been coming for years!

It's mostly focused on Chinese ingredients, but they have enough items for Korean and Japanese that you can get by with in a pinch. They also seem to have separate mini boutiques for assorted tchotchkes and beauty products which I didn't investigate. The store looked pretty new and very clean. They also had an impressive array of hot and cold foods to-go that looked quite good, although I didn't try any. If I have any complaint, it is the fact that most of the vegetables are prepackaged in miles of plastic wrap and styrofoam... it is shocking to see. But aside from that, I'd have to say this beats the T&T by a good margin, and I am a T&T devotee from when they opened their first store in Burnaby in the early 90's!

Outside of your everyday Asian products, they had a lot of prepared food - sushi, side dishes, including kimchi, etc, dim sum, fried foods, hot buffet with all your popular Chinese foods. I went back few days later to grab some food for dinner. I got some items from the buffet, dim sum, order of fried shrimp tempura and kimchi. Skip the kimchi, the dim sum was decent and the food from the buffet was worth it. Check out moves quickly, the staff behind the buffet were very helpful. Make sure to bring your own bag.
