My experience with this company was very disappointing. From the beginning, the service was expensive, and despite the cost, they were unable to solve the problem I hired them for. What concerns me the most is that when I requested warranty service, they refused to honor their warranty and instead tried to charge me for every shipment, even though the issue was not caused by me. In my opinion, a warranty should stand behind the work performed, not create additional costs for the customer when the original problem has not been resolved. I expected a higher level of professionalism and better after-sales support. Unfortunately, my experience was negative, and for that reason I cannot recommend this company. The most important thing you need to know is that they fix them on site. So probably most of the camera places around town are going to send the camera here, You might as well just come to the source. This might be the only physical place in the area that has the tools and talent needed. it's a lost art so if you have a digital camera from back in the day, you may wanna bring it in sooner rather than later get it serviced. I don't know if you might pick it up again. and now words of joy Let me start off by where it ended. The person that checked me out, asked me a question what was I going to do with the cameras now? The honest answer was I wanted to preserve the cameras. So that if my nephews or nieces, decided that they wanted to shoot when they got olde. They could shoot with these old school digital cameras. So I bought new batteries. New cards had them serviced. Got a little screen thing for them to look at and then. Put everything into cases. This place was incredible and their turnaround time was way past my expectations. I brought them every single camera. I found that I thought someone 12- 20 would like to fiddle around with. I brought in a few vintage cameras many years ago for repair and they got the two cameras working and provided some additional training on using them. When my Sony camera wasn't working this year I remembered the great service from this place and returned. Again, they were super helpful and repaired my camera at a reasonable price. The turnaround was short and the staff there were very sweet. Today, I came in for help because I could not recover photos I had on my external hard drive. Had a solid experience at Kurts- my grandpa's 1960 camera is now functioning excellent, and feels brand new! They really know what they are doing here, and are great at explaining everything. When i went in to get my minolta srt-101 maintenanced, I received a succinct breakdown of what needed to be done and why. The cost was a bit steep, but fair. Payment due when picking up the camera, and they'll provide you with a detailed report on the services done. On top of their expert work, I also really appreciated their customer service. I didn't ask the name of the lady who works in the front, but she's amazing! She exuded a very kind and sincere energy. This is my go-to place for camera repair. Well, that's not entirely true--in the beginning I sent my gear directly to Nikon, which ALWAYS pre-quoted me $400 through their online repair intake form, no matter what the issue was. After shipping the broken item, the final estimate was always $400. When I bring my gear to Kurt's, they truly look at the issue first and give me a much more reasonable estimate. Their repair costs are often shockingly lower than Nikon. So far, I have used their service about 7-10 times. Happy every time! read more

Dropped off my Canon R3 for some repairs and it turned out Amazing. Once the correct parts were verified with Canon it took about 2 days for a repair and sensor cleaning. Simply the best repair shop in the area. Incredibly knowledgeable techs and friendly service. I've had 3 old film Canons CLA'd here, each with varying degrees of wear (Canon Cough, light leaks etc). Every time they come back expertly tuned and ready to shoot. I got my sensor cleaned at George's and they said they weren't sure the sensor was damaged because they couldn't remove all the dust showing up in photos. I didn't use my camera for 6 months because of this. Kurt's camera repair was more knowledgeable and did a great job! They got it all! No more black dots in my photos and they also cleaned the body too. Much better value. They said they take before and after photos to verify they get everything and they are able to get under the filter to do a deeper clean. read more

Shipped in a sigma 120 300 2.8 lens to repair the slow Autofocus since theyre supposedly a certified sigma repair shop. Didnt hear anything back for about two weeks. Drove in to check the status and possibly pick it up since I was in san diego for the weekend on a job. They tell me, upon pickup, the lens isnt sharp and and they cant do the repair. Went home and unpacked it and I didnt notice it until I unpacked the lens and tried it out that theres a dent on the body and the front lens is scratched. Lens still was slow to autofocus and now its not sharp at all. Never had a problem with sharpness with this lens. In fact I have photos with this lens from a few days before sending it in that were tack sharp. Sent it to sigma and they said there was an external force on the lens IE, someone dropped it. Being that I live over 500 miles away from san diego, I couldnt drive back to complain. They never answered my emails and when I call in, the person who I "need to speak to" isnt there. Sigma has been informed about this shop. I will never return and cant advise more strongly to stay away. read more

These people know there stuff. it's a family business and they told me two weeks to do a full clean on my Sony RX 10 b/c they have to be completely disassembled. I said, "OK, no problem. She's been a great camera, and she's dirty, so let's do it". They somehow heard I had a wedding 3 days later and my granddaughter was the flower girl. This was the only true camera repair shops I could find in the SD area. They had solid reviews and a few people that mentioned they helped with removing UV filter rings that were stuck after a lens drop. So happy I made the trip despite being way out of my way. He helped me on the spot in about five minutes and was able to remove the filter ring without stripping of the lens thread. Would ABSOLUTELY return with a more serious camera issue because of how helpful they were. Plus, a random guy walked in asking to help jump his car and they rushed out to help him. A+ read more

Maybe for minor repairs but if it's anything serious or expensive gear, please send it in to the manufacturer. They worked on a 70-200 2.8 for me. I'm a working professional action sports photographer who's been doing this 20+ years. Dropped off the lens for just a once over during my short off season to make sure the lens was in tip top shape for the next season of shooting. First day back to using it, autofocus kicked the bucket. Returned it to this shop. When I received it back, an element was placed incorrectly which caused a wave in the focus. 3rd time the lens went in, it came back working. Ended up just selling that lens and buying new one because it just wasn't the reliable pro-level gear it once was. read more

I brought in an ANCIENT non-IS 70-200 L Canon lens that had been bounced around and beat up for years shooting motocross and other action-sports. The inside screws were so loose the lens was literally about to fall apart. I'd recently bought the new R6 mirrorless and instead of $2K+ for an RF lens I'd see if they can repair this old relic. I do have to disagree with their prognosis though - they said while they were able to fix it, "it wasn't as good as new". Honestly, it sure seems about as good as new to me!! :-) It works perfectly and they saved me quite a bit of money. In addition everyone I spoke with while there were extremely nice, informative and more than happy to really explain options and possible solutions to other issues I have with some of my other lenses. I came in because my hotshoe broke off my camera. The friendly guy at the counter took my camera to have one of the techs check it out and he brought it back within minutes - FIXED!!! I thought that was crazy. I was so impressed that I actually had them do a full cleaning on my camera AND he lens that I had on it. I was there on a Tuesday and they said they could get it done by Friday. I requested that turn around since I had a wedding to photograph on Saturday. When my Canon 24-70 f/2.8 experienced a problem with the zoom, I thought it was done for. Canon wouldn't service it anymore since it was too old so I called Kurt and right away they knew what was wrong and asked me to bring it in. When I went in, staff showed me where the problem could be and explained the part that they were going to need to replace. Was very knowledgable and felt comfortable leaving it in their hands. It took a while but it was worth the wait and now my lens is good as new. Not only was the zoom repaired but overall got a nice cleaning and some TLC. Plus 6 month warranty for the repair. Excellent! My camera was returned in worse shape than I left it...I brought in my camera and thoroughly explained that I was leaving the country in a couple of weeks and was guaranteed it would be fixed way before my departure date. Four days before my flight, I get a call saying they had just opened it up and needed to order a part from China. I obviously did not have time to wait for the part from China at this point. The fact that they waited so long to even touch my camera after it had been sitting there for over a week baffles me... I went back to the store to pick up my camera only to find it in worse condition than I left it. I hate to leave such a terrible review, but this company royally screwed me over and I will not be able to get my camera fixed for my 6 month long trip. Not to mention i was given the wrong receipt?? The team at Kurt's was a godsend when a variable ND filter got stuck on my Sigma lens and would not budge despite trying multiple sets of filter wrenches and almost all of the usual tricks. I was prepared to take a hammer to the filter myself but decided to see if a local shop had better luck with it than I did. The filter couldn't be saved, but they were able to get it off without glass flying everywhere and potentially scratching the lens, and that's all I could have asked for.
