We had a perfect evening at Sesto Canto!…read more The restaurant is beautiful and tastefully appointed with an American jazz theme. And the service and food are simply OUTSTANDING! To welcome us, we were greeted with a glass of Prosecco and a cold octopus salad amuse bouche. As an appetizer, my friend had the cuttlefish over a bed of lentils. For our primi, linguini alle vongole and fusilli with a pork ragu. For secondi, roast lamb with fresh wild mushrooms and a pork tenderloin with a pistachio sauce. And for dessert, a deconstructed cassata and a gianduia mousse. They also have a terrific wine list. To accompany our meal, we chose La Segreta, a wonderful white blend from Planeta. After dinner, Sicilian amari. Sheer perfection!

The woman (Plantea) who was my server didn't speak very good English so I ended up ordering something completely different than what I came for initially. I wanted the White Sea bass for 16 Euro and ended up with Tuna steak for 18 Euro. I don't know what I paid a 2 Euro cover charge for; I feel that spending 18 Euro on food and 4 Euro for wine should be sufficient and a cover charge is unreasonable. I was told that I could only sit at one of two tables that were both blocking the front door entrance. I ordered dessert vino. I love dessert wine so I was thrilled when I saw it on the menu. I was given a judgmental look from my server and reminded its a vino for dessert. I let her know I would like it now. It would not have made me feel so uncomfortable if it was said differently to me as informative and not judgmental as if I don't know what I ordered. I was looking forward to a nice decent meal. And felt judged and unwelcome. It was EXCELLENT food with POOR customer service. They didn't make myself, a visitor and first time customer feel welcomed to their establishment. I absolutely would have eaten here a second night if there service was better because their food was great. I just did not appreciate being treated poorly and snubbed by waitstaff.

All servers are polite, professional, and speak great English. The Italian menu is written on the blackboard on the wall. They'll provide you a QR code for English menu. While I was going to order pasta and main dish (fish) which a kind server suggested against due to the pasta portion. She was 100% correct, so I ordered tuna tartare and squid ink pasta. Both dishes were fantastic: tuna tartare was fresh - sushi/sashimi quality, and pasta dish was excellent despite the huge portion, lol! They suggested different wines for each dish to try, and I appreciated that they pay attention to details. While they would be a bit pricier compared to other restaurants in the area, if you're looking for solid food with polite service in the quiet environment, this is your place!

We enjoyed the amberjack carpaccio, which was super fresh and served with a fennel and orange salad. We then shared a pasta dish with shrimp and Trapani pesto - very delish. We finished with grilled amberjack with grilled eggplant and seared tuna with roasted potatoes. Both fish dishes were tasty and the quality of the fish was very good. The tuna was cooked a tad over and the skin on the amberJack could have been crisper ( the flesh was moist and well-seasoned) but overall we enjoyed the food very much. Our first waiter recommended a nice white wine from Etna - we ordered two bottles for the 3 of us. The lovely woman who then brought our food was delightful and charming. The evening we dined there, Canadian Amazon Prime was shooting a food network show on site and we ended up being a part of it (we consented to be interviewed and to do multiple takes and signed releases). It clearly was very exciting for the restaurant and we were happy to help, although the owner never acknowledged us at all. One quibble was that it took an hour after we asked for the check ( three times) for us to pay and one of us needed to get some work done on LA time. All in all, this place is worth a visit. It felt like good value and we had a very enjoyable time.

My…read morehusband and I shared the Sicilia bedda rettangolari gourmet and the crema funghu porcini e marscapone quadri. I was really excited, especially for the stuffed crust! While the concept was good, the execution left much to be desired. Both pizzas seemed to lack complexity in flavor. In particular, there was a lot of crust on the quadri, and I think there was generally not enough tomato sauce. For the Sicilia bedda, there was so much tuna and anchovies on top that it overpowered the other flavors, and having more acid such as lemon or vinaigrette would have balanced it out. Otherwise, it was just creamy and salty. The servers were friendly, and the pizza was fine but definitely nowhere near the best we've had in our time in Europe and (in my opinion) definitely not worth the price. Overall, I would probably rate it at 2.5 but bumped it up to 3 because the pizza was fine but just pretty average compared to the others we've had. I would likely try a different pizza place if I return to Palermo in the future.
