Was sitting in my 2017 Honda Civic parked on Ocean Avenue, when a huge bang sounded. Driver's side mirror knocked off it's mounting by an oversized RV. The RV kept on going, without stopping. Reported the hit and run to the Pacific Grove police Department, where they advised me to temporarily use duct tape to retape the mirror mounting back onto the car. No body work required, as even my old 1998 Civic had side mirror mounts designed to come off without damaging the body. Went around "auto body row" on Evelyn getting estimates. Anchor body shop right next door wanted me to make an appointment two days later to get an estimate. Got an estimate on the spot by Kuykendall and Fenders Collision down the street. Kuykendall was cheaper, as they checked the cover of the mirror mount, and said it was undamaged and could be reused, saving $45. The mirror was undamaged but came with the side mirror mount as one part, and alone cost $245. Add 0.9 hours labor, and tax and the final bill is $373, which I had to pay in advance on my credit card. Now if I had the "blind spot warning" driver safety feature, the cost of the repair would have been around $1400, which includes the interior camera, sensors, and $250 for recalibration. Yes, auto body shops open, as deemed an essential business during the coronavirus pandemic. Had to wait a week until the ordered part came in, from Larry Hopkins the Honda dealer. Notified by phone by Kuykendall at 9am, and came in right away, before the auto repair technician went on lunch break at 11am. While the repair was being done, I tried logging onto Yelp using their wifi. Lady told me the password. Tried it on the Kuykendall network, and got rejected. Turns out you have to try it on "The Body Shop" network. But isn't that the next door body shop, Anchor Body Shop? Got onto Yelp. Guy in charge says they should post it on the wall, so that everyone can see it. Save you some trouble: the password is 'thisiskuykendalls", not "thisisanchor". read more

I find Tracy and his team very professional. I have used their services many times. I'm writing this review now because I saw some of the negative reviews. My brand new car, 5 days old with 79 miles, was damaged by the dealership. They are going to rectify the problem. However, I have no control over where this will be done. I wish it was being done at Kuyendall's. The negative reviews seemed to be about personality indifferences. Get over it folks. If you needed a heart transplant, would you prefer the physician with good bedside manner or the person that will do it right? Just sayin! read more

Hi, My car had damage on the front bumper - I didn't want to spend $1000 for a new bumper replacement, so I asked them to pull it out. I was a little nervous to use this company because I read some of the bad reviews and the owner is a little bit tough and rough around the edges, but I am glad I did. He gave me a great deal, and even texted me to see if I needed a ride. They completed the work within a few hours so I didn't need a rental car. I recently used them to quiet a rattling noise coming from the left-side interior ceiling area of my 2013 Lexus RX450h, bought used 8 years ago. The entire headliner had to be unfastened and lowered to get to the bracket that secures the air bag and A/B igniter which had loosened over time creating an annoying rattle. The culprit: There was evidence that someone prior to my ownership had worked in that area and neglected to properly fasten the bracket. All good now! This is the second time I have used Kuykendall and both times I have been more than pleased with their professionalism, work quality, and quoted price. My trunk was leaking water and the shop fixed it and it was real bad with water coming in and filling up the back of my Toyota Yaris. The Owners and the staff found the problem and fixed it and it still has not leaked at all. Overall I'm happy with the work and would recommend Kuykendall's. My car's rear door was severely damaged by a car accident and the door is dented and cannot be opened, and unfortunately insurance did not cover it. I submitted some photos on Kuykendall's website to request an estimate, and Tracy called back quickly to discuss options. We were lucky and he was able to get a used door, and we also discussed fixing specific areas, which helped reduce the overall price that I have to pay. Don't recommend. Facts 1) Tracy yelled at me over the phone for asking questions (like "what's the status of my car", "why do I have to pay for reparing a dent that was on the replaced fender", etc). 2) We've never had any issues with the car (not even 100k miles), had been driving it for 2 weeks after the accident before giving it to Tracy. "Coincidentally", the starter broke when the car was worked on; we were charged for a new starter. 3) The replaced fender has a dent on it. We were asked to pay for fixing it. 4) The guy doesn't maintain a safety distance from customers during COVID. 5) The work took 2 weeks. 6) The final price was ~30% higher than the original estimate. Feelings 1) The guy's attitude is really offensive and rude. No hi, no bye, no eye contact when we came to pick it up. 2) I didn't feel safe around him (because he yelled at me over the phone and didn't maintain distance). 3) I don't feel safe driving my car after his "services". I felt delighted to gaze upon my ride as she was restored to her former perfection. Like show room car, my metallic red electric car stared back at me with flawless mirror like reflection as if it rolled off the assembly line for the first time. As an out of pocket repair job (non-insurance), the best value is most important. Sometimes the best car repair is the one you never have to do, but in my case, I was the victim of an organized curbside repair scam at the Grant Park Plaza across from the Posh Bagel on July 26. A few traveling repair guys from Los Angeles Area not only took $510 dollars from me but also damaged my car with a shoddy repair job and overspray while saying that it takes a few days to dry to perfection. These traveling scammers said they would come back buff out the paint and detail the car; which never happened. To undo this mess, I shopped around for a few quotes from professional local shops and found most shops to have a corporate feel or too business like: especially those utilizing excessive detail repair itemizations to pad the bill. However, Kuykendall was the most reasonably priced with best reviews to match. You certainly can find lower priced shops, but I didn't want to repeat my parking lot mistake again. For that reason, reputation matters; relationship matters. Kuykendall's slogan "Family Care for your Collision Repair" resonated with me as I like to support small local businesses, and they did not disappoint. I got a straight forward simple detailed invoice that was easy understand. Their craftsmanship is at a master level. I looked at the paint from a dozen different angle cannot see anything but a mirror like reflection. While I hope to never be in an accident again, but I will take my future cars to Kuykendall should the need arises. read more

I had a little run in with my rear bumper. Using Yelp I obtained estimates for the repair from three different providers. Kuykendall's was quite a bit less, partly because Tracy recommended a different approach. Instead of trying to repair the damage, he Suggested obtaining an aftermarket bumper that he would then match the paint. Bottom line you would never know the bumper was replaced. Before they did the painting, they created a few different samples of the color (gold). Why? Although the differences were almost imperceptible, he wanted to be sure I was happy with the result. Bottom line - it was a perfect match and the car looks terrific. While I hope I never need additional body work on my car, if I do this is where I will go read more

While sitting in a parking lot traffic line, a large truck drove into the center of my car crushing the driver's door. Outside of door touched inside of door. Never used Kuykendalls before. Found them online so I drove by and got an estimate. Their shop is very large and clean. They are set up for body and frame/ unibody work. When I picked up my car from them I was not only impressed wth their body and paint work but they polished and waxed I beleive, the entire car. They also thoroughly cleaned the interior. All I can say is WOW. Come here if you want honesty, great work,and fantastic customer service. I took my car in for an estimate and was greeted by a friendly, smiling face immediately. My car is a fairly new car that some jerk decided to key. Given the type of paint job on it, it was going to cost around $2k to fix. I was walked through the entire process to repair the car, and every step was explained in detail (in layman's terms so I understood everything). Needless to say, I was bummed to hear how much it would cost. That's when Eric suggested buffing it out instead. He called one of the guys off a job he was on to come over and help me on the spot. Nearly all of the scratch came out, and after he applied some wax, the scratch was basically gone. While I went to the restroom, Eric also saw that someone had hit my rear bumper and proceeded to buff out the scratches there as well, returning it to near perfection. I was amazed when I came back out from the restroom. The best and most unbelievable part is that they did all this free of charge, despite my insistence that I pay even a small amount as a token of my appreciation. I am so grateful for all the time and money they saved me. If this is the type of service they give to a random guy off the street, I can only imagine if I need other work to be done there. I went in to resolve a minor issue that would have been a fix-it ticket if stopped. At the same time, I had some body damage that I'd never tried to get fixed, because a dealer had said it'd require new parts that would exceed the value of the 14-year-old car. So when Kuykendall's asked about it, I said "if you can do something about it, great" and they likewise said "new parts would cost more than the car's worth". I came back later in the afternoon to find that not only had they solved my fix-it problem, they'd done an impressive job of resolving a number of the body issues, without new parts, all within the same 2-hours labor period I'd okayed. The car looks terrific, better than I deserve. I was seriously impressed. This is my third experience with them. On a previous trip, I'd had some insurance body work to do, which they solved with no problems. But I'd also had a weird engine knocking noise that a dealer had been unable to diagnose. They took it on a quick 10-minute test drive, stressed the car in a particularly rough way, heard the noise, said "oh, that's gotta be a broken engine mount". And it was fixed as part of the same insurance claim. Again, they came through for me, big-time. read more

Very good experience with Tracy, and I would return. He was direct and forthright, plus he kept me informed throughout my repair. He understood I was paying out-of-pocket and gave me clear options at different budget levels, so I could make tradeoffs. For instance, he made sure to check with me regarding after-market parts, which saved me a few hundred dollars. I had a great experience at Kuykendall's Auto Body & Frame Inc. I am disabled and I drive a very old car. Tracy who is the owner gave me an estimate for each of the four or five options that I had for repair in addition to pros and cons of each option. He went through each option while patiently giving me as much details in a language that I could totally understand. I was extremely impressed and happy with their work and the fact that their making sure the customer left their shop happy. ERIC IS AMAZING!! My BMW was involved in a hit and run (without me inside it) on a very rainy evening in Mountain View. The bumper was badly pushed in and most collision centers asked me to replace it because fixing it would take too much time/effort. Again, Kuykendall's steps up to the plate!! There is nobody I know who does body work like Kuykendall's. They're honest. They're trustworthy. They always do a great job. I've had their help twice. The first time, was about a year ago- I had been rear ended by a car, and the back bumper of my Prius needed to be replaced. They replaced it in a day and a half, and didn't charge me an arm and a leg. It was done perfectly, and they even gave me a small canister of touch up paint if I needed it in the future. About a month ago, the Prius was hit by a hit-and-run driver in a parking lot. Again, same bumper- and a quick fix!! I'm so grateful to Sarah, Marie, Tracy, and Jerry. They really are a step above!! I brought my car in for an estimate to have my front bumper, fender and corner cover repaired on my 2008 Lexus RX400h. Tracy gave me a quick and efficient estimate which was on point with my other estimate. Based on the excellent yelp service reviews, I tried them for the first time. Tracy also helped me with some additional items including my tire rim that needed replacing, touched up other small scratches, peeling decal on my window removed and he even hand cleaned my front lamp assembly while I waited. My headlights haven't been projecting enough light for years. Even after having Lexus examine the lights, Tracy diagnosed it by hand cleaning the covers. I can now see so much better in the dark while driving! Talk about top notch service. My 12 year old car looks like new now! Thanks Kuykendall. My car's front bumper was damaged from someone reversing into it. The left side of my bumper was hanging a few inches lower than normal when compared to the right side and the bumper trim needed to be totally replaced. After reading glowing reviews on Yelp, I brought my car in to Kuykendalls and was greeted by Tracy. He took a look at the damage and snapped some photos to send to the insurance company. He did not send me the photos as some of the reviews have talked about, but this may be a different case. Tracy made assumptions about the accident and at one point, I felt as if he was working with the insurance company instead of me, the person who chose his shop. He made assumptions of how the accident would and would not have caused damage to my car without knowing the full story. At one point, he assumed that some of the damage to my car was pre-existing. Why would he assume that? I'm not sure. I know every line and crease on my car, and the damage was definitely not pre-existing. I brought the car in about four times. Once to get it estimated. The second time to get it estimated again. The third time the body shop was surprised I came (even after the insurance company approved the repair) and the shop did not communicate to me that I needed an appointment to begin the repairs. I'm not sure why they failed to tell me that in the first two visits and phone calls we had. And the fourth time I came at my appointment date. In the end, even though I felt he wasn't really servicing me, I accepted that he was just seeing how he can help restore my car. I got it back a couple days later and it looked just as it was before the accident. His staff even washed the outside of the car which is awesome of them. I give them a 3.5-4 star rating. I'm very tough on auto shops and to garner a 5 from me, the shop would have to go above and beyond in terms of service and communication. I'm confident that they are skilled and honest, and can restore any damaged car. But for me personally, and being a car guy, I was hoping for the best. read more
