Came here yesterday for dinner with my boyfriend and it was delicious! We did the regular menu instead of the hibachi. We both got the house salad (the dressing is to die for), spicy lobster roll, Clarks Summit roll and the mini volcano roll. We didn't really care for the Clarks Summit roll but the other two were yummy. The pieces were huge! We were so full and couldn't finish it all (that's a good thing). As a former local, I know this is the go to restaurant in the area. As someone who now has traveled and lived all over for the past 20 years there's some things that I feel could be improved--the sushi is still hands down AMAZING. Bravo. Ambience, fabulous (just a tad too dark, can't see the menu)---but the host was not friendly at all--no smile, Didn't get a hello or a good bye or anything--thought we were inconveniencing him and quite honestly it was not busy one bit. The server was super nice and attentive. Sushi is priced perfectly--but the hibachi for what it is --IS way overpriced. Over half the plate was buttered rice with barely any meat or veggies. At $30-35 a plate-on average in a mini-town like Clark Summit, this is not even what I'd pay in a super high classy place in most cities for "mostly rice". I recently moved to the Scranton area and tried this sushi and hibachi restaurant and really liked! It's not really fancy place but not that casual either. I haven't tried the hibachi yet but the sushi here is delicious. I always order the seaweed salad, it tastes super good! My go to order is the philly roll, two king roll and a shrimp tempura roll. The sushi here is fantastic I highly recommend it! I have tried their tropical martini as well. I was surprised how good it was. It didn't taste like straight alcohol, but it was strong enough where you can taste it. The only problem I have is the service here can be slow, but overall it's a really good restaurant. I personally recommend this restaurant if you're looking for good sushi. This place has definitely become my go to sushi spot read more

Tried Kyoto last night for the first time even though I've lived nearby for years now. It was a friend's birthday dinner and we ordered the hibachi, my wife had shrimp and I had the steak and shrimp combo hibachi. The onion soup starter was very simple but tasty. The salad with ginger dressing was simply made but outstanding, I could have eaten two of them it was so good. The hibachi chef was pleasant, entertaining and very competent. Along with my steak and shrimp we had delicious fried rice and stir-fried veggies. All were hearty portions and tasted great, I was very happy with my food as was the wife. I have been to hibachi places in the past where they were not as generous with the amount of food you receive, but I left Kyoto full and content. We will surely be back to Kyoto for another fun, tasty dinner. read more

They did apologize but shockingly, at the end of our meal, the other party at our hibachi table was offered a round of free drinks for having to wait and we were not? We were there before them. The food though delayed was fine. I mean, who can't make hibachi. The only thing I can think is that the other party ordered sushi and hibachi so they spent more, so they were given a free round. It was in such poor taste especially because my friend I was dining with is a regular. He and I should have been offered a drink as we were only drinking beer. They don't need my business. We normally enjoy our visits here. Food is always excellent. Some of the hibachi chefs are much more entertaining than the one we had most recently, but it wasn't our first experience so I didn't mind. The issue is with the service. For example, on this visit our female server was mad at a nearby table because they dared to tell her she brought them the wrong appetizer. She argued left and right with them, started to return the food to the kitchen, but turned around before she ever got there and proceeded to return and continue the argument with the folks, getting louder and louder and pointing furiously at the menu until the customers called BS and went to talk to the manager. Didn't turn out well for the rest of us diners. She came to our table literally throwing soups on the hibachi dining area and spilling on multiple people. Same with salads. Nasty and hard to communicate with when ordering additions or asking for napkins or such. But she had the nerve to complain loudly to other staff when it reflected in her tip. Many displeased groups - wish we had gotten the name to speak directly to the manager. Also hope it isn't a family member of the owners because we won't keep going back if this is the customer service expectation. read more

The sushi rolls were good, we had some regular roles like spicy tuna roll and tempura roll in addition to 2 special rolls. The fish seemed pretty fresh as opposed the cooked snapper which smelled and tasted rubbery. The atmosphere was pretty casual as the restaurant is more open then other hibachi restaurants I have been too. I would come back here again for the sushi. Last week I took my family to this restaurant for a get together and birthday celebration. There were 6 adults and 2 children in our group. We ate at the Hibachi for the experience. Our biggest complaint about the night was that the entire time we were there (approximately one hour) we felt very rushed. It started from the beginning when they were not giving us enough time to review the menu throughout the meal where we were constantly and repeatedly asking if they could remove our plates of food. Maybe I'm wrong but for a bill in excess of $300.00, one should expect to relax and enjoy their meal. We are always conscious of the need for restaurants to roll their tables to increase revenue and for that reason do not linger after finishing our meal, but the manner in which this was handled left us feeling unwanted. read more

Had reservations for a Sunday night at 6:30. Place was busy. Was greeted at the desk and taken directly to our table. Menus came quickly and our drink orders were taken. Drinks came out in a reasonable amount of time and we placed our hibachi orders. Soup came out fast (was good) followed by our salads (just lettuce and dressing...expected maybe a vegetable or two). Although dressing was very good. We had spring rolls and a sushi roll for appetizers and both were pretty good. The waiter was very good and did a great job of clearing the table and making sure our drinks were filled. There did seem to be a bit of a delay in our chef coming out but we weren't in a hurry and enjoyed the conversation. So for me, the biggest part of the hibachi experience in "the show". Love that stuff. Unfortunately there wasn't much show to speak about. Chef came out and did a few, what I would consider, basic spatula/fork tricks. That was it! No rubber chicken laying an egg. No throwing the egg in air and cracking on side of spatula. No peeing doll to put out flames. No squirting of saki around the table. No flipping broccoli into his hat. None of it. The chef went right into cooking. No talking, no interaction with any of us. He did do the Onion volcano. But then didn't even use the onion in the rice. Between the 8 of us, we had shrimp, scallops, chicken, salmon, filet, and steak. While the food was good (chicken a bit dry) and we enjoyed it, the lack of show really took away from the whole experience. Otherwise I can just order take out and save some money. We walked in with a group of 3, they told us the wait would be 20 mins, we wait at the bar and no one at the bar pays attention to us the whole time... 40mins latter they finally sit us down. Another 15 min wait until they take our drink order.. and then another 15 min wait to get our drinks and they finally take our food order. The atmosphere is really clean, and we especially liked how we came in it was not packed so we picked the Hibachi grill where the chef cooks in front of you. I think our server forgot about us a few times because our glasses were empty for about 10 minutes before I had to ask a different server for more water. The gyoza and coconut shrimp were burned. The fish in the sushi was fatty and wasn't cut properly. I then waited about ten minutes for our server to bring back our change before until I got annoyed and left. My daughter asked her 13 year old son what he wanted for his birthday,said he wanted to go to a Japanese restaurant.Go figure. So 11 of us went to Kyoto. Seemed like most people there were celebrating some kind of occasion,so it had a festive atmosphere. I spent quite a bit of time in Japan and was looking for something familiar,so I ordered the Yakisoba,stir fried noodles ,chicken and veggies.,something I had eaten in Japan many times after a night of bar hopping,the national sport of Japan,that and Karaoke (UGH) The meal was fine but maybe if I was drunk as a skunk it would have been better like in Japan. We had been coming to Kyoto since we moved to the area over 10 years ago. This is actually the place where I was first introduced to sushi. We have always liked the sushi, sashimi, specialty rolls and hibachi here. To be honest, we have been going less frequently for about a year, only because the menu hadn't changed in years and there was some new competition in the area. (That includes Blu Wasabi, owned by the same people.) Last weekend, I got a few rolls here for the first time in a while. I usually try to time my arrival for takeout about 5-10 minutes longer than they say, because this place gets mobbed. On this night, I ended up waiting about another 15 minutes after my scheduled pickup. No big deal, because I expect it and I'm not cooking dinner, so it's definitely worth the wait. Here's what has me pissed, and probably done with the place: I ordered four rolls that we've ordered many, many times before: Rainbow, Black Pearl, Spicy Lobster and Halloween. They have started to use filler (bread crumbs or panko, maybe) in the fillings and toppings of these rolls, AND they've upped the prices!! (To be fair, they didn't seem to adjust the prices on the menu for a long time, so they were probably due.) Still, the scallop topping on the black pearl roll that used to be raw scallop is now a bready paste. The filling for the spicy lobster roll is similarly pasty and NOTHING like it was any of the many, many times we've had them before. At least three of the four rolls are now made with a considerable proportion of cheap filler in place of fish. Hibachi has always been very good here, but I come for the sushi. Also, I don't like getting ripped off or tricked, hence the 2 star rating. Nothing against the ownership here: I recently had sushi from their other place, Blu Wasabi, and loved it. Another place in the area that is a good option (though not affiliated with the owners of Kyoto or Wasabi) is Atami. Either Blue Wasabi or Atami make considerably better sushi than Kyoto. read more

Best hibatchi restaurant in Northeastern PA. You get the whole "show", but in a nicer atmosphere. The owner (Vinnie) will often come to your table to say hello (this is infrequent now, as he is devoting most of his time to his newer, fancier restaurant: Blue Wasabi). The food, I find, is more flavorful and better prepared than other hibachi places in the area. I prefer chicken, which can often get dried out while other's steak or shrimp is cooking. Here, its usually moist and has enough flavor that you don't even have to use the dipping sauces. I don't eat sushi, but my friends do and always like the preparation. I think there was a lot of hype around this place when it first opened since it was the only place like it for few years and was fun for parties... but now it's at the bottom of the decently long sushi/hibachi restaurant list. As for hibachi, it was good. Nothing more and nothing less. Then again I don't love hibachi and think it's all the same anyway. I can't believe I never knew that the family of culinary genius who brought NEPA Le Thai and Formosa was behind KYOTO! WOW, stumbled in there by chance Monday, evening after another local restaurant refused to seat us at 9:20 despite having hours til 10. KYOTO also closed at 10 but when we walked in at 9:25 we were greeted warmly and seated immediately. The service, the food the atmosphere--the STAFF! ALL 5 STAR. The most esoteric dishes are available for the Sushi aficionado and if you've never had sushi the staff here is happy to educate you--OR just order from the hibachi menu! I had hibachi for my entrée --shrimp, salmon and these scallops that were so tender--like butter, melted in my mouth. Incredible.
