Be sure to go in with cash because Ky will charge a $20.00 fee (which I found out is illegal) to use a credit card as payment. Seems she tips herself. She is way overpriced and does not even wet hair first for a haircut. She doesn't know how to to properly cut an A line bob. Had to get it fixed at another salon. Don't go here! read more

Honestly, I have been to MANY hair salons and have never been so happy! I got red, yes red done and I liked it at first but didn't love it. Red is the worst color to go to if you change hair color like I do. But Ky worked some amazing magic and not only did my color turn out better than I could've ever thought, but she also fixed a butchered hair cut and made my hair SUPER shiny and healthy! She is now my permanent hair stylist. I will only go to her. She also is wonderful to chat with! First impression when I walked in was: dirty, messy and empty. Then after standing awkwardly in the "waiting room" Ky comes in and tells me to sit in the chair. She tells me that it was going to cost double the price because my hair was "too long" (my hair is mid-back length) so I politely declined since $65.00 for a trim is way out of my budget. That was with no wash and condition too!! She kept saying "you get what you pay for." Well I went to Essex Salon on E Street and Finn did exactly what I wanted for $30.00. I went there because her website said "we listen". She did the opposite of listen. I was trying to grow my hair out and said three times that I didn't want too many layers and wanted to keep as much of the length as possible. I even bought in a photo of a bob haircut because that is what I am trying to grow it into. First she hacked away most of my hair with thinning shears! then she cut most of the front off and left the back in a big mess. It looked like a MULLET. Worst haircut I have ever had. I am going to have to start all over growing it out. She INSISTED that I vote for her on the Time-Standard Best Of poll. She wouldn't let me pay until I did. Scariest hair cut I've ever gotten!!! She was rude and very aggressive with my hair. As if she was in a rush. All I asked was for her to even out the length. She started to cut my hair in huge clumps with no effort. I felt very nervous and uneasy sitting in her chair. She didn't layer it or even it out like I asked. It's still two different lengths! I sent my husband and my daughter to get a haircut and they returned within 30 min. She charged $50 for my daughters haircut and $30 for his. They have to be the worst haircuts I've ever seen! For that price I expect a shampoo and the feeling that you just walked out of a salon. She didn't even wet her hair to cut it. They told me she was rude and just wanted them out. This was the most interesting experience that I have ever had when it came to getting my hair done. First I took my son in last month on the 28th for his back to school Hair cut. At that time I told her exactly what I wanted a spiral perm and to keep all the length I could she quoted me 400 dollars and I took a few weeks to think bout it. I figured it was pretty reasonable for the length of my hair so I decided to set my appointment I Set it for the 24th of this month 9 am. I got there and she refuses to work for less then $500. She and I had a few words In which I reminded her that I did my part as a client and had her look in my hair and get a council before this meeting I felt very price gouged I stated that I felt like it was because she didn't want to do it after she agreed to and she admitted that it was because she was tired. Ended up proceeding and doing it it cost me $460 she had Condition my hair before perming had me out in the sun after she set my perm solution Because she had another person coming in for highlights. My mom knew that it was going to be an old day thing so she decided to come join me and Kai charged her turn $85 for just a trim No wash no condition just a trim. By myself having perms before I asked her how long I should wait until washing my hair she said I could wash it that day I know that is in proper information. Besides that my hair turned out all right I ended up going back and getting my son's hair and my husband's hair cut as long as you don't mind her fluctuating prices on how she feels then she's all right read more

She was amazing! I have super thick, long hair that is difficult to manipulate most days. She spent an hour thinning, shaping and styling my hair to perfection. I have been to several other salons in the area.. most are uninviting and rude/judgmental. You are immediately welcomed and comfortable at KY's! I hate writing bad reviews, however, I feel that everyone should be informed before going to this salon. I was in need of a last minute cut and color before an event, however my usual salon was not able to get me in right away. Ky was able to take me same day and I was extremely appreciative. I was there for 2 and a half hours, getting length taken off and going darker on my hair, nothing too complicated. I was perfectly satisfied until I went to pay my bill, and found she was charging me $400 for a simple cut and color. I have been going to Platinum Studios for years, and the most they had ever charged me for more in-depth services such as bleach, bright colors and styling was $120.00. In hindsight, I realized she had been asking me very specific, personal questions about my job, how much I get paid, where I got my jewelry from etc.. and I cant help but wonder if she was testing the waters to see how much she could get away with charging me. I am the kind of person that likes to stick with one salon for my beauty services, however after feeling like I've been taken advantage of, I will not be returning to this salon or referring anyone to her. Not only did this woman DESTROY my hair, but I have received word from multiple other spas and stylists that I have warned about her, that she cons her way into winning "Best of Humboldt" every year by submitting ballots for herself. She is NOT the best that is why she's always available!! When I asked for a balayage, she washed my hair twice(which you shouldn't even wash before bleaching or coloring) because she thought my hair was too "oily" then splattered random, chunky, 2000's style highlights into my hair!! I literally only had 5 streaks in, and one of those was not even blended and straight down the back of my head. She rushed through the process in less than 30 minutes and used me as her therapist the whole time. I cried it looked so brassy and awful. She acted like she cared, but wanted me to pay 200$ for work she hadn't even done!! She threatened to call the cops when I offered to pay her the price she charges for highlights. So 200$ and 2 years later, I still have the WORST hair quality of my life. read more

Ms. Ky has been cutting my hair for 10 yrs. now. After a while you develop a rapport with people, especially around something as personal as a haircut. I recently brought my 3yr old son to her for his 2nd haircut. He is not a patient being and was not thrilled to be sitting still. My daughter went in asking how much a haircut would be and indicated it was her birthday and she had just gotten a $50.00 Visa gift card. The lady says "Haircut is $68.00" My daughter starts to leave and the woman says "but I can TRIM your hair." My daughter let the woman trim her hair and as she is getting ready to leave the woman tells her that will be $50.00! My daughter cried the rest of the night. SHAME on you! I saw Ky after having been to just about every other hairdresser in this town. I wanted her to try & fix some really brassy blond. She was nice at the consult, & it seemed like we were on the same page about what I wanted. I went in the next day for my appointment. She applied one color of blond highlights to the top and back of my head- what I would call a partial. She was efficient enough at this, & after it was processed under the dryer and washed out, it looked ok, nothing amazing. It helped a little to break up some of the brassy blond, but was by no means a complete fix. However, she only partially dried my hair letting me leave the salon with partly wet, frizzy, tangly hair. She used a really cheap brush that completely pulled on my fine hair when she was drying it. No flatironing or styling. My hair looks a MILLION times better when I style it myself, and I am no expert. The worst part was the cost. I have been to tons of the highest end salons in San Francisco, LA, & Vegas and am more than willing to pay good money for a job well done. To me, however, partial one color highlights in a small town without even a proper blow dry or any haircut is not worth $115. She got strange when I tried to pay. I tried to write a check, and she wanted to call the bank. I even showed her 2 checks I was about to deposit to try & prove I really did have money in my account. When she saw that I had cash in my purse, she tried to insist I pay her with that. I refused, as I had cash for other purposes. I ended up paying with my debit card, and I have a half written check to her sitting in my purse. Will not be back. read more

Worst experience EVER! She cut my hair before I was even done showing her the picture!!! She didn't listen to what I wanted done! She gave me blonde highlights when I wanted all over caramel hair color! After 4 hrs there of crying & still not getting through to her I walked out! She wanted $170 for an unfinished too short aline bob & gray green unweaved highlights! I had to search for another salon available after hours to repair the damage! I left my kids at 1245 and didn't get home until 930! She even called the police for me not paying! My friend who recommended her to me felt so bad for me & my ordeal that he ended up paying her so she wouldn't press charges! She is an aweful person & I would never send anyone here!
