Bearnaise was SOOOOOO good. It didn't last long.
    Jeff P.

So so good!!! This is the reason I went to Copenhagen, it was for food like this. The servers were amazing and gave great recommendations. They even recommended other amazing restaurants. I got the ribeye and mashed potatoes. The bearnaise sauce was simply the best I ever had. Their wine choices were well appointed. Can't say enough nice things. You will not be disappointed, I assure you. 5 stars all day long. DO NOT miss this place of you're ever in Copenhagen.

US ribeye with port wine glaze, mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and bubbly

Great food and excellent service like at steakhouses back in USA. As Eva K. mentions, it was the free bottle of bubbly thanks to a Yelp check-in offer that drew us to KöD this evening. I have already been to their location on Admiralsgade so I knew we were in for a treat. This one is located right on busy Vesterbrogade with huge windows so you can have a good peope-watching session with your meal. While we waited for our food, the bread was tided me over and I love the huge flakes of salt provided. The bubbly was a dry Cava that was kept nicely chilled for us and went surprisingly well with the food. I got the tartare (95 dkk) as a starter and it did not disappoint with crispy chips and some frisée on the side, as well as a tasty green sauce that I couldn't identify. The meat was well-seasoned with just enough capers. As soon as I was finished, our server whisked away our plates. Very good timing; she must have been watching us. This time for an entrée I got the US ribeye (325 dkk) which was cooked perfectly medium rare, as I requested it. I also got to try a bite of the ribeye from Uruguay (235 dkk) which was very flavourful although slightly more tough. As for sides, I chose mushrooms pan-fried in butter (40 dkk) and mashed potatoes with Vesterhavs cheese and crispy bacon bits (40 dkk) as well as port wine glaze to top it all off. Everything was delicious, and I said so when our server came by to check on us. Unfortunately I couldn't finish the steak or mushrooms but they gladly packed it in some foil for me and even shaped it into a bird. So cute! And although two of us showed the check-in bonus, I was sure it was going to be only one bottle of bubbly per table. But when our server saw that our first was empty, she asked if we were ready for the second! Uhh, yeah we are! Even though we didn't order dessert and continued drinking our free bubbly, our server never made us feel like we were taking up space or tried to hurry us up. Stellar service and good old steakhouse fare; what's not to like?

    Yum, tasty!

Was there for the second time last night, and just like the first time around, the service was excellent, the food was tasty and cooked well, and the wine selection is very good. Just remember to ask for the cellar card ;) Probably my favorite restaurant in Copenhagen, and definitely the one I've tried with best balance between price and quality.

I'm not about to tell you that Retour Steak serves up the best beef dishes in the world because in my opinion, they don't. One would have travel to Japan for the best steak (Sorry Nebraska). But I will tell you this, FOR THE PRICE nothing comes close to this place. We made it a point to check this place out and after a previous attempt the night before decided to come by earlier. We arrived around 5:45 and already the dining room was crazy busy. The hostess did however find one available table, but that they would need the table later for an 8:00 reservation. If you're taking notes. Make a reservation! Since we had well over two hours, we knew we could take our time and have a cocktail to start. Handwritten on the special drinks for the evening "sidecar". Hello?! Music to my ears. My friend and I each ordered up a sidecar and a charcuterie platter to start. The sidecars were perfect, and even though I usually have mine made with whisky I went with the flow and let them make mine with cognac. It was delicious. The charcuterie was a small serving but perfect to share. Each of the meats were amazing. I wish I knew what the darker meat was, because that one was truly out of this world kick ass delicious. Steak time! And there are plenty of choices. But really this would be a no brainer as I am a fan of this little thing called the French fry. And the ribeye comes with those crispy potato things. Ribeye "medium rare" please. I'll get right to the point. The steak was cooked to perfection. It came topped with a little rosemary and roasted garlic. The garlic was the winner and enhanced the steak even more. I even saved a few to eat along with my fries. By the way, these fries were about as good as I have had in a long ASS time. Almost as good as I had in Belgium (which by the way is the Hall of Fame of fries). I did save room for dessert and again, this was an easy choice. The profiteroles were shouting out my name. Again, they scored a perfect 10. We each had a glass of dessert wine, a moscato and a tawny port which both were amazing. I can't stress how much I loved this place. And again, the fact that this place is reasonably priced makes it that much better. It's not cheap mind you, but for a steakhouse it's about as inexpensive you will find. The service was impeccable and constantly had servers checking in on us. They were also very helpful when it came to our wine selections. Just FYI, if you are standing on Østergade street and can't find the place, it's actually located on Ny Østergade 21 which is a side street off the main street (running perpendicular).

What ultimately disappointed us most was not just the dinner itself, but how the restaurant handled the situation afterward. When we arrived at 8:00 p.m., the table next to us was still covered with dirty dishes from previous guests. A receipt left on the table showed they had paid about 15 minutes earlier. During our meal, two more nearby tables became vacant, yet none of them were cleared before we left at around 9:20 p.m. We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairing. The waiter accidentally poured full glasses of wine for both of us after asking whether we wanted to taste it first, laughed it off, and moved on. A small mistake, but representative of the evening. The starters were good. The biggest issue was the steak. We both ordered medium rare. One arrived medium, the other clearly overcooked, which the waiter acknowledged. My steak was eventually taken back, but after a long wait--during which my husband finished eating--the waiter informed me they were only then starting to prepare a new one. By that point, our dinner together was over, so I declined. The béarnaise sauce had clearly been sitting for a while, with a glossy skin on top. I spoke with the floor manager privately and asked for a bill they considered fair. The explanation for the uncleared tables was that the staff had been busy, although the restaurant did not appear particularly crowded. The final bill was €118. My starter was removed, but we still paid for my husband's starter and main course, both wines, and approximately €8 for water we had never ordered but which had been brought to the table automatically. My steak was not charged because I never received a replacement. When I questioned the water charge, I was simply told that I had drunk it. Mistakes happen in every restaurant. What prompted this review was the way the complaint was handled afterward. Two days later, I contacted the restaurant to give them an opportunity to address the issue. Instead of acknowledging their mistakes, the discussion focused on defending their actions. They described the compensation as "more than generous" because desserts and dessert wines were not charged, even though we never received them. In reality, the only actual compensation was my starter. The restaurant also claimed that I shouted at their staff. I was certainly disappointed, but I deliberately held every conversation away from our table to avoid disturbing other guests. The only moment my voice may have risen was when I asked, "Are you serious?" after realizing we were also being charged for water we had never ordered. I appreciate businesses that support their employees. However, I also expect them to acknowledge their own mistakes. Throughout the entire process, I was left with the impression that the restaurant apologized only for my disappointment--not for failing to deliver the experience we had paid for. That distinction matters. Saying *"We're sorry you feel this way"* focuses on the customer's reaction. Saying *"We're sorry we failed to deliver"* accepts responsibility. That responsibility was missing throughout this entire experience, and for that reason, I cannot recommend KöD.

A genuinely disturbing dining experience…read more The main course completely ruined our evening. We ordered three beef tenderloins, and both my daughter and I had to spit out the first bite. The meat had an overpoweringly foul smell and taste. This was not the flavour of dry-aged beef--it tasted spoiled. When I explained this to the manager, he initially appeared sceptical. I asked him to smell the steaks himself. His attitude changed immediately, and he admitted that something was wrong with them and apologised. I have never experienced anything like this in a restaurant, particularly one presenting itself as reputable. Being served meat that smells and tastes spoiled is not simply a disappointing meal--it raises a serious concern about food handling and quality control. The rest of the food did nothing to improve the experience. The fries were cold and soggy, the side dishes we tried were bland, and the service was inattentive, although the servers themselves were polite. What makes the situation even worse is that we were still required to pay for part of the meal after being served food that was clearly unacceptable. To KOD: please do not respond with a generic message saying you are sorry or that you will "do better." I have already sent a private email, and the matter can be addressed properly there. This was, without exaggeration, the worst dining experience I have ever had. Based on our experience, I strongly recommend eating elsewhere.

Floras impressed me. The first bright spot was our server Camilla. She immediately made us feel at ease with our English and walked us through the menu. The meat was cooked exactly as I had requested. In Argentina they call it Juegoso and that is what I received. You can order different sauces to come with the meat, bernaise, pepper sauce, and something else. The meat really require a sauce but the bernaise went great with my papas frites. The French fries came out piping hot. We had a great time sitting out and watching the people, enjoying a nice steak, and enjoying the service. One might ask why anyone would order a steak in Copenhagen and I don't disagree. There was just something about having just arrived and wanting something familiar and a smiling face to help you through it. I highly recommend Floras, and I will certainly return when and if I get back to Copenhagen. Thank you Camilla.
