For starters, I've tried the Steak Tartare and Empanadas and both will take you on a culinary adventure. For main, I've had the sampler plate (Parillada) which is a great way to taste all of the wonderful steak varieties including sausage. For dessert, I've had the Volcan de Chocolat-a chocolate lover's delight! All who ordered the Creme Brûlée were very happy also. Our servers have always been excellent! Close to Nyhavn with a great atmosphere & definitely one of the best places to have Steak in Copenhagen!

To call it a place is really not right since it's a food truck, but most of the time they hang out near my hood - by Lergravsparken station. As the name suggests, this truck serves Empanadas, some kind of filled bread baked in oven. Although the origin of Empanadas is from south America, weirdly enough Indonesians know similar stuff called panadas. I bought three empanadas from the truck (3 for 75kr), two carnes ( beef ) and one vegetarian. The vegetarian doesn't have much taste in it, just mostly cheese, but the carne are great. If you're not vegetarian, get the beef. Although the taste isn't amazing (I remember it fondly when an Argentinian friend of mine made me empanadas that tasted so wonderful and probably that ruined my future experience), it's alright. I am happy that this truck is hanging out by the metro station so we have other options than kebab and pølser.

So after we had a dinner we decided to go for a glass of wine. Malbeck was on my bookmarks and it was very close to the meat packing district so it was the place to go. I was happily surprised with the cosy interior and the good service. It is a small and warm place on Istegade. If you don't know it exists you probably will not pay attention when you pass by. We tried 3 different wines each and all of them were good. Apparently all wines come from Argentina in Malbeck. The girl who was working was very friendly and able to explain and suggest wines. The place was not full, there was enough space for everyone and I really liked the setup of the benches. A good place for a chill afternoon/evening.

We arrived around 5:45 and already the dining room was crazy busy. The hostess did however find one available table, but that they would need the table later for an 8:00 reservation. If you're taking notes. Make a reservation! Since we had well over two hours, we knew we could take our time and have a cocktail to start. Handwritten on the special drinks for the evening "sidecar". Hello?! Music to my ears. My friend and I each ordered up a sidecar and a charcuterie platter to start. The sidecars were perfect, and even though I usually have mine made with whisky I went with the flow and let them make mine with cognac. It was delicious. The charcuterie was a small serving but perfect to share. Each of the meats were amazing. I wish I knew what the darker meat was, because that one was truly out of this world kick ass delicious. Steak time! And there are plenty of choices. But really this would be a no brainer as I am a fan of this little thing called the French fry. And the ribeye comes with those crispy potato things. Ribeye "medium rare" please. I'll get right to the point. The steak was cooked to perfection. It came topped with a little rosemary and roasted garlic. The garlic was the winner and enhanced the steak even more. I even saved a few to eat along with my fries. By the way, these fries were about as good as I have had in a long ASS time. Almost as good as I had in Belgium (which by the way is the Hall of Fame of fries). I did save room for dessert and again, this was an easy choice. The profiteroles were shouting out my name. Again, they scored a perfect 10. We each had a glass of dessert wine, a moscato and a tawny port which both were amazing. I can't stress how much I loved this place. And again, the fact that this place is reasonably priced makes it that much better. It's not cheap mind you, but for a steakhouse it's about as inexpensive you will find. The service was impeccable and constantly had servers checking in on us. They were also very helpful when it came to our wine selections. Just FYI, if you are standing on Østergade street and can't find the place, it's actually located on Ny Østergade 21 which is a side street off the main street (running perpendicular).

On the verge of giving up, we were directed to Retour and wow, what a find! We had to convince the chef to take us at 11:01pm and after some pleading, he offered us 2 steaks: Take it or leave it. We were only too happy to take it. And what a revelation of meaty goodness. After settling in to a table and grooving with the wonderful jazz music that created a hip vibe we were treated to some yummy home cooked bread & a perfectly dressed green salad. What came out of the Kitchen next were 2 thick, juicy, perfectly cooked slabs of Uruguayan Ribeye heaven that positively exploded in your mouth with flavor! The thick cut french fries were cooked to crispy perfection and the Bernaise sauce accompanying the meat was delicious, but unnecessary. Wagyu alone of course was sooo tender and juicy as people describe it. The strip we used the sauce and the butternut squash strip they provide and it was superb. The meat had an overpoweringly foul smell and taste. This was not the flavour of dry-aged beef--it tasted spoiled. When I explained this to the manager, he initially appeared sceptical. I asked him to smell the steaks himself. His attitude changed immediately, and he admitted that something was wrong with them and apologised. I have never experienced anything like this in a restaurant, particularly one presenting itself as reputable. Being served meat that smells and tastes spoiled is not simply a disappointing meal--it raises a serious concern about food handling and quality control. The rest of the food did nothing to improve the experience. The fries were cold and soggy, the side dishes we tried were bland, and the service was inattentive, although the servers themselves were polite. What makes the situation even worse is that we were still required to pay for part of the meal after being served food that was clearly unacceptable. To KOD: please do not respond with a generic message saying you are sorry or that you will "do better." I have already sent a private email, and the matter can be addressed properly there. This was, without exaggeration, the worst dining experience I have ever had. Based on our experience, I strongly recommend eating elsewhere.
