This is how I like my steak. And at Köd they totally get it! Blue as the bottom of my soul!
    Astrid P.

Probably the finest steak I have ever had in DK so far. There, I went and said it. Not only is the meat prime quality - they are also not afraid to cook it to perfection. Which in my case means almost no cooking at all. They call it "bleu", because the meat is more of a purple-ish blue than red. Only restaurants with a certain amount of self confidence would pull this off. A bleu steak made out of inferior meat is practically inedible. A bleu steak made of quality meat is sheer bliss. My T-bone definitely falls in this category. You could cut out this baby with a classic Danish red sausage - that tender! With a variety of sides and sauces (we were a party of five, so we could just order all of them) and a splendid Ripasso, this 500g beauty went down smoothly. I strongly recommend the timian glace and the Bearnaise plus the tomato salad. But really. I didn't need side dishes at all. That steak kept me busy for several minutes!

A very cool NY meat district inspired steak restaurant which proudly incorporates its Danish culture into the whole modern concept. We had just landed in Copenhagen and blindly followed Yelp recommendations for dinner. KöD was close-by and although the place seemed pretty packed, the staff immediately seated us. We were then greeted by our served who explained us a bit about the KöD concept. Basically, it's a very young restaurant with some modern ideas and a limited but nice menu. She mentioned that they redefined the terms rare and medium but my order of medium-rare was still accepted so that seemed a bit overcomplicated. I usually don't order meat starters at steak restaurant as I'd rather have two steaks instead. But we were very happy with the carpaccio and beef tatar, I highly recommend these. One other thing I noticed in Denmark: they have amazing salt with the bread. I caught myself simply trying the salt itself multiple times. Three steak options were offered: a Danish grassfed tenderloin, as well as steaks from Uruguay and USA. I have had my well share of American beef so I obviously opted for the Danish alternative which was a hit. Nevertheless, I would have liked to see more local choices instead of importing American beef. The meat was perfectly prepared medium-rare. The accompanying port glaze sauce was excellent. Regarding sides I loved the mashed potatoes with a cheese topping. The steak frites were good but nothing exceptional. I yet have to find good truffle fries in Denmark, so that would be my suggestions to cooks here. Just go to the southern U.S. states and you'll know. The menu is overall limited (check the website) which I found refreshing as they seemed to take pride in the few items they offered. But it would not work if your date only wants to eat salads (I'm looking at you skinny blonde women of Denmark). We were not overly excited about dessert but we were proven wrong. The desserts at KöD are exceptional. I liked my rhubarb which chocolate crumbles and basically pure cream to top it off. But the cheesecake with blackberry coulis and some kind of almond cookie crunch cake base was amazing. Highly recommending the dessert options here! If I had such a steak house closeby, I would go there every week. KöD is able to put its own spin on the whole concept. The similarities to young steak houses in NY are obvious. That also comes with a certain hipster ambiance and as we noticed target group. But if you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere to eat a marvellous steak, this is the place.

I'm not about to tell you that Retour Steak serves up the best beef dishes in the world because in my opinion, they don't. One would have travel to Japan for the best steak (Sorry Nebraska). But I will tell you this, FOR THE PRICE nothing comes close to this place. We made it a point to check this place out and after a previous attempt the night before decided to come by earlier. We arrived around 5:45 and already the dining room was crazy busy. The hostess did however find one available table, but that they would need the table later for an 8:00 reservation. If you're taking notes. Make a reservation! Since we had well over two hours, we knew we could take our time and have a cocktail to start. Handwritten on the special drinks for the evening "sidecar". Hello?! Music to my ears. My friend and I each ordered up a sidecar and a charcuterie platter to start. The sidecars were perfect, and even though I usually have mine made with whisky I went with the flow and let them make mine with cognac. It was delicious. The charcuterie was a small serving but perfect to share. Each of the meats were amazing. I wish I knew what the darker meat was, because that one was truly out of this world kick ass delicious. Steak time! And there are plenty of choices. But really this would be a no brainer as I am a fan of this little thing called the French fry. And the ribeye comes with those crispy potato things. Ribeye "medium rare" please. I'll get right to the point. The steak was cooked to perfection. It came topped with a little rosemary and roasted garlic. The garlic was the winner and enhanced the steak even more. I even saved a few to eat along with my fries. By the way, these fries were about as good as I have had in a long ASS time. Almost as good as I had in Belgium (which by the way is the Hall of Fame of fries). I did save room for dessert and again, this was an easy choice. The profiteroles were shouting out my name. Again, they scored a perfect 10. We each had a glass of dessert wine, a moscato and a tawny port which both were amazing. I can't stress how much I loved this place. And again, the fact that this place is reasonably priced makes it that much better. It's not cheap mind you, but for a steakhouse it's about as inexpensive you will find. The service was impeccable and constantly had servers checking in on us. They were also very helpful when it came to our wine selections. Just FYI, if you are standing on Østergade street and can't find the place, it's actually located on Ny Østergade 21 which is a side street off the main street (running perpendicular).

After striking out at 4 places whose chefs had already bailed, we realized that the kitchens in this beautiful city close early. On the verge of giving up, we were directed to Retour and wow, what a find! We had to convince the chef to take us at 11:01pm and after some pleading, he offered us 2 steaks: Take it or leave it. We were only too happy to take it. And what a revelation of meaty goodness. After settling in to a table and grooving with the wonderful jazz music that created a hip vibe we were treated to some yummy home cooked bread & a perfectly dressed green salad. What came out of the Kitchen next were 2 thick, juicy, perfectly cooked slabs of Uruguayan Ribeye heaven that positively exploded in your mouth with flavor! The thick cut french fries were cooked to crispy perfection and the Bernaise sauce accompanying the meat was delicious, but unnecessary. Highly recommended, reservations are a must, great service and an amazing locally brewed Donning Fanes Brown Ale that was suberb! Do yourself a favor & check this place out, well worth the trip!!!

We bought two tickets to Dining Days including a starter (empanadas), main course (tenderloin in malbec demi-glaze and baked Jerusalem artichoke and sauteed mushroom) and dessert (Pera Malbec). The service was on point, the bread was super delicious to start the meal with, the empanadas were great, the tenderloin was wonderful and even I who is not a big fan of Jerusalem artichoke devoured my meal without a problem. The Pera Malbec dessert that I thought it was going to be dull turned out to be delicious and interesting, served with vanilla ice cream. The only bad thing was probably the house red wine that wasn't as good as expected to be, since they have pretty extensive wine card, thinking that they would probably choose something bearable for their house red, but I've always been a beer girl, so probably that's why. I would gladly return again, festival or no festival.
