I signed up for a private lesson with Stephanie before my wedding and was very pleased with the experience. As an introvert, I had some anxiety about being the center of attention, but I left our private lesson with a lot more confidence. We hired one of the LA Bellydance Academy teachers, Leolani, for a cultural event for our National Charity League group of 7th graders. From the start, the company was very responsive and helpful in finding and organizing a teacher to drive up to Ventura for our event. Leolani was extremely professional and kind and engaging for the girls. She was an amazing teacher and even gave us some historical background on Hawaii and hula (bonus!) she got our group of 13 year olds up dancing hula in from of their moms and they did amazing! I started taking classes here a little over a year and a half ago. From the beginning, I loved it and kept coming back. Stefanya and Sarah are both amazing and talented teachers who have their students' best interests in mind. They are so supportive and encouraging and really know how to explain the complicated movements of Arabic dance. I started my journey in bellydance in a fitness class in Washington DC in 2022. I came out to California last summer and discovered LA Bellydance Academy (LABA) just by luck. All of the staff was warm and welcoming. I attended every beginning class that I could fit into my schedule. I learned to love the dance so much that I joined a local bellydance performance studio in Washington DC. I have returned to LA this summer with two beginning performances under my belt but I am so happy to be back. LABA is still incredible with all of the hip and traditional Arabic music, huge selection of classes and techniques. Stefanya, Erica and Sarah are talented as well as encouraging and supportive. They also have a store for bellydance gear and costumes so I now have plenty of accessories. Last year was a great introduction but this year, LA Bellydance Academy has reinforced my love for bellydance in all forms and expanded my techical skills. I tried this place out for the first time last Saturday with their bellydance technique and choreography class. I absolutely loved the class, the instructor, and the people. She taught real dance, not just half-way exercise like dance but real technique and choreography. Great prices too. I met girls there my age (college students) who has been going there for 4 years. That says something. Will be coming back regularly. However, wish they offered more classes. read more

I first reviewed this studio before it had fully transitioned into the Los Angeles Bellydance Academy. It was a little dingy and cluttered during that transition, and I was so pleased to see how nicely it all came together as the lovely proprietors patched and painted and made the place over into a warm, homey studio with lots of great teachers. I had been taking classes here from Sherri Wheatley, who is one of a number of bellydance instructors who teach at this studio. Having taken classes from a LOT of different teachers all over Southern California, I can definitely attest that the teaching here is top-notch, and that the instructors really care about student learning. Sherri's classes are perhaps better suited for the intermediate student than the complete beginner, but she's a friendly, accessible teacher who will break things down further for students who ask, so beginners can still get a lot out of her classes if they're not too shy. There really is plenty of street parking around, so it's a relief to know that this is one place in LA I don't have to arrive at 30 minutes early just to compete for one parking spot six blocks away! My only complaint is that the studio space is a bit on the small side, so popular classes tend to be a little cramped. Still, this is one of the better studios I've found in West LA, and well worth checking out. Alas, due to scheduling conflicts I'm not dancing here any longer, but I've happily sent friends their way, and will continue to do so. Keep up the great work, guys! read more

Bellydance academy, has done it again and surprised me with an additional new class, Bellyquake taught by a wonderful and ever so energetic Jayna. I have been very and didn't go to LABA for over 4 months, and when I heard classes were switched around, I must admit I was nervous. I was taking lessons from another incredible dancer Corina, but she was now a different day. I dared myself to give it a try and explore a new class and instructor. I was not disappointed at all, Bellyquake in simple terms is the zumba of belly dance. I sweat so much in class and laugh so much.. I look forward to it every Wednesday after work. Stevie as always greeting myself and everyone with great love and joy helps make going to class amazing. The studio is great, the folks are friendly. I'm so super happy to have return to my belly dance haven. Highly recommend taking lessons if you need a new hobby,want to unwind after a long day at work/home. I came here for Arabic style dance classes and was pleased to find that LABA also offers Persian dance classes. I'm half Persian, so I have an idea of what Persian dance is but definitely wanted to learn more. To be honest, I was a little bit nervous going to this class but I had the best time there. The class had a mixture of all sorts of people, other Iranians and people from other cultures who didn't have a background in Persian dance. The teacher was so nice and kept everyone on the same page. She kept the class moving a lot and I felt like I got a workout as well. These classes were a blast and I definitely got better over time. The teacher also provided nice choreography at the end of the class. Would recommend to anyone who is interested in Persian dance. read more

I was new and attended the beginners class twice, (or i thought it was for beginners) but this class was definitely not for beginners. Everyone knew the choreography and was far advanced. Plus, the instructor assumed I had been there before when I hadnt. Yes I can pick up routines and move my hips but that's besides the point...I was at the mercy of other people in the class to catch me up when they were still learning themseleves...Unfortunately, I won't be back nor will I recommend this place. read more

Inspirational dance school run by Belly Dance Superstar Stephanie, not only beautiful artist but wonderful teacher. I was surprised that even I can learn directly from the world class dancer! It has varieties of classes and good for all level, all age, and all purpose. And I love that teachers call all students .... "DANCERS, you are doing great!!" This is definitely Feeling-good place. We practice basic movements, technique, improvisation, music and rhythm, different style, healthy posture, breathing, expression, makeup, drum etc... Yes, sometimes choreography might be challenging, especially if you join in the middle of season. But it's fun! I believe in "Fake it until make it" method. I would give this place 10 stars if I could! I had been out of dancing for many, many years. I had also had my right knee replaced, and was very nervous about starting back in dance. Well, within a couple of month I had not only built up my muscles and trimmed my waist, but I was performing on stage with my class!
