As someone who has had food poisoning a few times, I like to subscribe to this mindset. From Swordfish and Tuna to Shellfish and Filets, I was told they make the trek to Fulton Fish Market (in Hunt's Point, the Bronx) daily. That's good to know. There's also a freezer packed with frozen selections such as Snow Crab legs and Calamari. I would like to see more varieties of fish ( like Skate and Monkfish) while envisioning an addition of upscale gourmet items/seafood accompaniments other than Soy and Teriyaki Sauce. If you want to be assured of eating fresh seafood knowing you're paying slightly more, check them out. (I bought two Branzini for $31).

All different sizes, and for good prices. I picked up a small 1-pound red snapper (which they cleaned for me), as well as 2 lbs of their Connecticut mussels. They also had oysters, but they were Blue Points, which aren't my favorite. Got home and cooked everything, and it was quality all around. I now know that I can house 2 lbs of mussels in a single sitting... Cash only!

The owner is decently pleasant but I wouldn't neccesarily call him friendly, so just don't go in asking a bunch of silly questions and you'll be fine. The selection of fish is very broad and you can buy whole fresh fish to take home after picking your own, or choose from fillets. You can shop 2 ways here: pick, pay, and leave, or pick, pay, and have them steam cook it for an extra $1 per lb. I always have them steam my fish and add their blend of sliced potatoes, onions, corn, broccoli and carrots which is the best way to go, every time! The ladies who steam are freaking experts with seasoning! I recommend that you get your order steamed and ask for everything which includes seasoned salt, garlic powder, pepper and red pepper flakes. They squirt your fish with lemon juice and then rinse it, followed by generous amounts of seasoning (I've never had it be too salty, they just get it right somehow) and put everything in a big plastic bags for steaming. and when your fish is done (13 minutes) they put a big dollop of butter (actually a "buttery blend" but it's still very good, just roll with it!) in the bag, close it up and put it in an aluminum container with plastic lid. I mention the packaging because it does an incredible job of keeping everything hot for at least 90 minutes after you buy it. You'll spend about $12-20 easily but you will LOOOOVE IT!!

They have tanks for live lobsters but I've personally never seen them when I go, I usually do go later though.. so maybe that's why. I like getting whole fish from them, they have Bronzino and red snapper, tilapia, fresh shrimp, fish steaks and much more. They also have a cute little section of seasonings and things to make seafood boils or fish frys, but they're a little pricey. Owners are always extremely nice and helpful.
