New Japanese grocery store in Downtown Brooklyn! I was super impressed with the quality of the sashimi, nigiri, and onigiri and am eager to try their other bentos. For matcha lovers, they also have a whole matcha bar inside (decent quality!) for $6.80-$7. This is my second Hashi market visit at this location. It is very spacious with lots of great items to choose from, both prepared food and grocery items. They also have a vast amount of goodies, specifically chips, cookies and candy from Japan, Korea and China. There is also a section with stationary items and toys for all ages. The market has a small seating area which is great for grabbing a quick bite or soft serve ice cream, in my case, near the ice cream station. I love black sesame ice cream and put my colleague on to it, and she loved it as well. It was a nice treat on a hot 80 degree day in NYC. This space is in a great location in Cobble Hill, not far from transit and shops. The best part is it's clean and well lit. What a nice addition to the neighborhood! There aren't many Japanese (or even Asian in general) store around and the few are tiny. Hashi feels like an actual grocery store with aisles of Asian goods. While it's still a bit pricey, it's the next best thing without traveling to Chinatown. My favorite part of their ready to eat hot foods/sushi section. I decided to get a Sashimi/Sushi Combo ($23), which I also got to enjoy right away. They have a dining area for you as well. I stopped by an hour before closing so I didn't really get to try the things that I wanted to like their matcha and sushi. I did however pickup a few things. I bought custard filled Taiyaki for my daughters and some crab chips. I also purchased a personal sized brown sugar latte and brown sugar milk tea. I didn't really like the milk tea because it was a bit too sweet for me but everything else was good. The store is very neat and clean. Everything is organized well which made things easy to find. There's also a small seating area with a microwave for those who want to dine-in or heat up cup noodles, which they have an extensive row of in one of the aisles. The store is new and very clean and organized. I was able to purchase some snacks that I tried before in South. They have an extensive ice cream section, sandwiches, salads, and some hot food. They also have a small dining area for eating. I will be back to purchase more things but today I was just scoping out. read more

Hashi Markets have been popping all over Manhattan and this one follows suit in Brooklyn. While there are a couple of smaller Japanese marts a few blocks away, this one definitely feels more like an Asian Supermarket. The space alone is quite large with generously spaced aisles and even a matcha dessert bar with some seating in one section. While the packaged food, produce and novelty goods aren't the cheapest compared to the larger grocers in Chinatown, this place offers a large variety and convenient access for locals without having to travel into Manhattan. Welcome to the hood, Hashi Market! This store literally just opened this weekend and I'm pretty sad that I missed the first opening day celebrations as apparently there was a live giant tuna cutting session. I would've loved to have seen that! My friend and I happened to walk past by chance (on Atlantic Avenue between Hoyt and Smith) on our way to the movies and knew we had to check it out with all the grand opening decorations. I had never heard of Hashi Market before, but my friend told me how it's really popular and there's a few in Manhattan. I really love Asian specialty stores because you just can't find some of this stuff anywhere else and I love the unique food items. I wanted to check out the sushi and hot food section immediately. Not only were they offering 20% off for these, but I figured a Japanese specialty store would probably have amazing sushi. They certainly did! There were rows and rows of freshly packed sushi, which looked incredible plus trays of sashimi, bowls of sake don, and even trays of Hokkaido uni (sea urchin)!! I will definitely be coming back to buy a tray so I can make some delicious uni pasta! There's also a hot food section with bento boxes and unagi don that looked mouth watering. Oh, and don't miss out on the variety of onogiri (rice balls) that they offer. They had salmon, tuna, tuna salad and I think I even saw crawfish??? That's wild haha. I should've picked one up, but I was content with just having sushi to start. I purchased a spicy tuna roll and a mixed tuna and salmon nigiri tray to take home. Both were excellent and honestly if I ever want to get sushi or a don bowl or bento box on my way home, this is definitely where I will be stopping by from now on. In addition to all of the fresh food, there was an aisle dedicated to ramen packets and other snack items. I also saw freezers of Japanese desserts and other frozen foods. I didn't go down every aisle, but there are definitely tons of skin care products, and cutesy stuff for children like Pokémon plush. I even picked up a Pikachu decorated hand cream! This place really does have it all and it's definitely more than just still convenience store. The aisles are very well spaced so you don't feel cramped and the cashiers were really friendly when I checked out. Such a great addition to the area and can't wait to come back! read more

Really excited when this opened nearby...great selection of grocery items as well as hot food items. However there are some shady practices when it comes to charging taxes on grocery items. They randomly charge 8.8% sales tax on certain grocery items that should be tax exempt. I'm not sure if this is also happening at the Manhattan locations. Unclear if this is being remitted to the state tax authorities. Someone from the city or state finance department should definitely take a closer look at their tax filings. In the screenshot, you can see that they charged sales tax on the kimchee but not the char siu sauce. When I asked the cashier, he said there's nothing he can do about it and the manager isn't available. I didn't notice this until recently, because I don't often ask for my receipt and the cashiers here don't proactively give you the receipt unless you ask. This happened again last night when I went to restock on kimchee. read more

Hashi is an interesting Japanese market. it is big and spacious and has so many great products. The sushi is great and the hot food is OK.
