We had the hitch, but not the necessary lighting required for a trailer rental. Although we had an appointment to install the lighting at a Richmond location of the trailer rental company--at considerable cost-- while stopping to visit friends, we were told the kit was not available and could not be located at any other store along the 95 corridor at this venue, but we would most likely get lucky if we made various stops at their locations along the way. We called Southside Hitch the next morning, hoping that they would be able to help, but figured we would pay for our lack of planning. We were told to come on out, they were sure they could accommodate us! And they did! Within 30 minutes, we had a lighting kit installed at a fraction of the cost of the quote from the trailer rental company. It has taken me awhile, but I just want to thank Southside Hitch for being such an honest, reputable, and helpful company. We are so happy we called you! Thank you so very much!

A simple google search can prove that this is a huge over estimate. (Subaru later quoted $360 parts and labor). I called and expressed my concern about how the estimate was that high. The justification given was "that's what my system says, I cannot help you". They cleared my code without any mechanical fix and told me I was "ready to go". Check engine light came back on the drive home. These guys don't want to help their customers. They overcharge for labor, and prey on those not knowledgeable about their vehicles. Stay away and take your vehicle to any of the other shops along broad st.

My pregnant wife and I had our car towed here after our alternator had failed on the highway…read morewithout calling ahead, as by the time our car broke down, all shops were closed. We are not from the area and live about 5 hours away in New Jersey, and were driving home from our vacation, so we were stuck and stranded in Richmond until the car was taken care of. We had left a note, voicemail, and called as soon as they opened up to discuss if they would be able to get the job done. Initially, they mentioned they would not be able to do it, and we were trying to figure out what shop would be able to do this and get towed there. Luckily, Atlas was able to complete the job and get us back on the road. However, we were completely taken advantage of in our time of need. From start to end, the job took 2 hours (9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.). We were charged for 5.2 hours of work at $150 an hour, including a diagnostic fee. This is close to $500 of fees for nothing. When asked to waive the diagnostic fee as we did the work with Atlas, we were denied as it was 'part of the work'. I have NEVER paid a diagnostic fee when doing work at the same shop who found the issue. As a previous manager of an auto shop, we would ALWAYS waive this fee for customers, and every other mechanic my family and I have ever been to, have waived this when doing work at the same shop. At the end, we ended up paying the $157.16 diagnostic fee and $1,152.45 to replace our alternator. What an outrageous price! This is completely unethical and disappointing to strong-arm a stranded couple. Do not go here unless you want to get ripped off.

They had my car for almost 11 hours and never touched it. They never called me with an update. I called several times and the technician was short tempered and unhelpful. In the end, I had to pick up my car without the service being completed or the car being touched at all. We will not return.
