L'Europeen is a solid choice cafe among the many across Paris. I was here twenty years ago and several months ago this year and it delivers each time. It can be a busy place, but one is greeted in the customary French manner and you can opt for indoor seating when the weather is not cooperating, as it has been each time I have been here. It is conveniently located across from Gare de Lyon and the nearby tube station. Given I had just arrived from CDG and had not checked into my hotel, they were accommodating and well prepared to check my bags at the desk, which seems a regular thing across from the train station. The specials are quite the value proposition. I chose the oysters as an appetizer and flank steak with shallots as the entree. My total, including beer, was less than thirty Euros. The oysters were fresh, served simply with lemons on the half shell with the brine retained. The flank steak was cooked to medium rare temperature that managed a slight crust without grilling. Simple pleasures. The menu is extensive and pay attention to the specials. It's hard to go wrong with whatever you order. Four stars. read more

Decided to try this place since it's close to the train station. Was very disappointed in the onion soup. Cheese is okay, but the soup itself is very bland, compared to what I have in the US. I need to try more place to see if this is how it suppose to be or what, but so far I don't like it. The bulot is good but might have upset my stomach a little bit after; the sauce is a little too garlic-y on its own but matches well with the food. This was my go to fine dining restaurant in Paris. So much so, I had to eat here twice. It's located right across the street from the train station. Nice ambience, good tasting food, and excellent service. Didn't notice any indoor smoking. When you walk in, you must show your covid vaccination passport/card to the lovely hostess. Had the hanger steak both times, with a side of green beans the first time and a side of fries on the second visit. Had to order the crème brûlée for dessert on both occasions. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Paris. What this restaurant offers is a very upscale dining environment yet very accessible to all customers. This restaurant has a very good menu. The food they offer here is based on French cuisine. Every meal I have ever eaten here is well-prepared with a very nice presentation. They also offer a very good drink menu with a large selection of wine. In terms of interior design, this restaurant has its primary dining area plus a very nice bar area. When you enter, the host or hostess will ask you if you have come in for a meal or simply drinks and they will then seat you in the appropriate section. The staff here are all very nice and very friendly. Though this restaurant tends to get crowded in the evening, and the staff may become a bit busy, they always take very good care of their customers. One of the interesting things about this restaurant is that, due to the fact that it is across the street from the train station, a good percentage of the clientele will enter with their suitcases in tow. This is not a problem, it is just something that is unique and a bit different from your average up-scale Paris restaurant. Overall, great place to eat and/or have a drink. read more

They proposed it with a 'sauce vierge' that had nothing to do with the original recipe, tons of celery and NO OLIVE OIL! Server said it was the sauce vierge du chef... gasp and all this attitude towards it is unacceptable. Avoid this place! read more

I keep reading about good service and unfortunately my brother and I had terrible time with that. Waiter was rushing every moment of the conversation. I was brought the wrong starter, I didn't say anything because it was my second choice and I'd been walking all day so it was nice to finally eat something. Then I was almost brought the wrong meal, not sure how salmon was almost mistook for ribeye. Speaking of the food it was just alright and lacking flavor. I'd put it on par with an Applebees or Chilis in the states. I asked the waiter for a wine menu and I didn't get that until 20 minutes later, also in that time waiter took my water cup halfway through the meal and so I just drank out of the bottle at that point. By the time we got the menu my brother said he was good and he almost took it away, again acting too swiftly, because I didn't get to say I'm the one who wanted wine. It was a Monday, and half the tables were open. I saw a table begging for someone to take their order, and eventually they asked for the manager. Saw a kid have to go to the table with the glassware to get a cup from the waiter. Not sure if terrible waiters or just a bad day, but they need to be more frequent at the tables, and slow down their time. Mistakes were made and this was very disappointing. read more

We ordered a platter the Choucroute Royale, this platter was stacked high with a ham hock, 4 differed sausages, thick slices of ham, potatoes and Sauerkraut. It was so large we couldn't finish this platter took it home and ate the remainder for breakfast. It was delicious and perfect for the chilly weather in Paris at this time. I speak French as a second language so no miscommunication. When I arrived they were serving some people but not others laying out confusing rules about who can and can't eat - extremely weird. When food was finally able to be served it was awful. All the tables around us got wrong orders and the food we did get was awful. Trust me- it's Paris- the greatest city for cuisine. BEWARE OF BARTENDER!!! ZERO STARS!!! THIS IS HOW PARIS WAITERS/BARTENDERS GET THEIR REPUTATION. I sat down at the bar by myself to order a sandwich. I set my AirPods down and reached for a menu. The bartender walked up, grabbed my AirPods, and threw them behind the bar and walked off. I told him to come back several times and he ignored me as if nothing had happened. I leaned forward across the bar and could see one AirPod in the well below the beer taps. I told him to hand it to me and find the other one, which he was not really interested in doing. Finally after I raised my voice he half-assed looked around the bar and said "sorry". I asked him if it was in his pocket at which he began to fume at ME because I evidently insulted him.... but he was the one that took the AirPods away in the first place and threw them.... I would call that a thief. I finally involved two managers. They acted as if this was a common occurrence. One manager finally found the other AirPod in two inches of water/beer at the bottom of the beer tap shelf. No apologies, no nothing, just handed me back my other AirPod which surprisingly still worked. STAY AWAY!!! read more

The oyster was great , my steak was undercooked even though I asked for medium. The 2 stars are mainly due to the service. It was terrible. $200 bill and NO drink refills, food needed to be returned for proper cooking and multiple occasions had to beg for service. Spend your money elsewhere. This brasserie is located near our apartment and across the street from the Gare de Lyon train station. It is very busy, but we always manage a seat. Unlike many others, this brasserie can either be a fast or slow experience, which is nice for a quick visit. We had the Traditional Hamburger and the Sole Meunere (?) as well as fish with sauerkraut. We have been twice so far and we have come to like it and it's reliable. Menus in English and the staff speak some as well. Service is great and friendly. read more

Only giving 2 stars for decent service and being open late. Just had one of the most awful meals I've had in years. My husband ordered his steak cooked Medium and it came completely raw inside. They went to cook it longer and it only the very outside was cooked at all. Still raw when it came back. I ordered fish and mashed potatoes after not being able to order the first two things I requested on the menu and the fish was completely flavorless, hard on the outside (not from a nice seat) and the bowl was filled with water from the previously frozen filet. The mashed potatoes and wine were about the best past of the meal. Highly recommend staying away unless you like crappy, old diner-like food that is so poorly cooked and has no flavor! read more
