They had (good) German food for our family, which is hard to come by with area caterers, it was a big hit, only wish it had been for a better occasion. Sauerkraut and sausage, German potato salad, you name it! The pasta salad didn't do much for me, but others liked it. In the past, I've had their brown rice and their chicken, which as memory serves, was good as well. Mike Maxa kept in touch about the details and was very good to work with, very responsive. I will say it a touch on the pricey side, but he worked with us as much as possible to keep excessive costs down, and at any rate, food was worth it!

The food was placed on the tables in the pans they were cooked in without any chaffing dishes to keep it warm. Utensil's were placed in what looked like something used in a school cafeteria. The chicken was dry, the mashed potatoes were no good/tasteless. From being late to the bad food, the way they set the food up. There was nothing appealing or even good that I can say about the service I experienced. Spend your money wisely and hire a reputable catering service.

But the real struggle was the service when we went to breakfast. The eggs were somehow rubbery and soggy, and the pancakes burnt and cold. My wife is a professional chef and said it's one of the worst breakfasts she's ever had. But we weren't going to say anything. But when the innkeeper came around to take our plates and asked "Are you done," we even pleasantly responded "Yes, thank you." But when she turned away and saw food left on our plates she mumbled "what a waste!" Again, we weren't going to say anything...but we quietly told her "There's food left because it was terrible." Instead of "Sorry you didn't like it" the innkeeper said "You don't know what you're talking about!" Who says this to guests? A professional chef doesn't know bad eggs and pancakes? Even without a professional chef, if a guest doesn't like your food you don't respond like that. She then said you should take a teaspoon of everything first too see if you like it. What?? No, you should expect the food to be edible. Then when I went to check out she held her hand out and said "keys." That's it. So I dropped them on the desk. She said "Have a day." The Inn would be a great place for the wedding party to stay at. We stayed at the Norman Little room. It's not big, but honestly, since we only stayed for one evening, the size of the room didn't really matter. The most important thing was having an en suite bathroom and we had that. The next was a comfy bed, and we had that, too. The host was very kind and walked us to our room and we asked for additional pillows and she brought them right away. Since we're old and boring, laying in bed to watch Netflix was about the perfect ending to a great evening. Since we've never been here before, we didn't really know what to expect for breakfast. I wasn't expecting gourmet, so seeing hot eggs, potatoes, sausages, pancakes, and all the other basics (bagels, hardboiled eggs, etc.) was quite impressive. Coffee was coffee, k-cups and regular drip. Again, I don't come to a B&B to get fancy coffee, as long as it gets my heart started, that's all I need. I'm not sure what the pricing is like in the summer, but it was an awesome deal during the off-season. I would love to stay there again some time.

(Last year not so much) The Marv Herzog Hotel sits along the Cass River we chose the River side view, our room had a jacuzzi & small balcony. Our room was very clean with no visible signs of any issues. Bathroom had body wash, shampoo & conditioner all full. Daily room checks with fresh towels & bed makeover. We didn't feel comfortable on the balcony but the large patio was very nice with plenty of room and seating. Included with your stay is breakfast, typical of most hotels. What surprised us was you receive a drink ticket for 2 drinks German beer , wine or soda & hors d'oeuvres for a happy hour. All staff were very friendly & accommodating. Our refrigerator was not cooling the best & they allowed us to store our freezer packs & food in their refrigerator. Greatly appreciated this. Parking garage is tight, we have a truck and it was snug. No pool as this seems to be more of place for couples not necessarily families with small children. Although there were families there. The town offers a free shuttle which we used but most things are within walking distance. I am giving 4 stars because of the refrigerator & I wish we could have set the air conditioner for the fan to run continuously it didn't seem to have that function. & the tv didn't have a sleep mode. Overall I think we will stay here again in the future it has been kept up very well.

They have a free breakfast but we typically travel with or own breakfast food so we didn't eat there. The price was very reasonable especially for this tourist town. We would stay here again and will share the new find with friends. Check in girl was very friendly and efficient. Checking out a different girl not as friendly and she had nothing much to say. They have AAA discount & you can not find a better value & a very nice continental breakfast with boiled eggs & yogurt & choice of juices & other items are included with a breakfast area.
