This is our 2nd year in a row visiting Frankenmuth with family members. We tried a new hotel this year and we were very satisfied with our choice. (Last year not so much) The Marv Herzog Hotel sits along the Cass River we chose the River side view, our room had a jacuzzi & small balcony. Our room was very clean with no visible signs of any issues. Bathroom had body wash, shampoo & conditioner all full. Daily room checks with fresh towels & bed makeover. We didn't feel comfortable on the balcony but the large patio was very nice with plenty of room and seating. Included with your stay is breakfast, typical of most hotels. What surprised us was you receive a drink ticket for 2 drinks German beer , wine or soda & hors d'oeuvres for a happy hour. All staff were very friendly & accommodating. Our refrigerator was not cooling the best & they allowed us to store our freezer packs & food in their refrigerator. Greatly appreciated this. Parking garage is tight, we have a truck and it was snug. No pool as this seems to be more of place for couples not necessarily families with small children. Although there were families there. The town offers a free shuttle which we used but most things are within walking distance. I am giving 4 stars because of the refrigerator & I wish we could have set the air conditioner for the fan to run continuously it didn't seem to have that function. & the tv didn't have a sleep mode. Overall I think we will stay here again in the future it has been kept up very well. read more

Updated review. We've been coming here annually since this spot opened. They remodeled not to long ago. The new portraits are wonderful. The staff are always amazing. I've noted better than last year. That's why I'm saying 5 this time. Not a place for kids as I've said. It's usually a 40 and over crowd. Happy hour and breakfast included and wonderful. Maybe get that fireplace working again? We loved that. Overall super clean and comfortable. A very well managed place. Highly recommended. Best spot in town for mature adults. read more

It's okay hotel a bit dated and we're there during Christmas season. About $60 over what it should be. Staying on the the river side because traffic noise was terrible. Frankenmuth is extremely busy and OVERPRICED. SNACKS AT HOTEL don't MEASURE UP TO DRURY. Breakfast is okay. I DON'T UNDERSTAND NO CUT UP FRUIT? Staff friendly and helpful. To much light in dining room and lobby. Marv is gone 22 years and none of his music played and so what is the point??? Displays, so what? Friendly staff, quiet, clean, and comfortable rooms. Had a problem with our air conditioning and they were very prompt in fixing it. Very good variety for breakfast, free parking. We stayed for a whole weekend and can't wait to do it again. read more

For what it is, it was a good hotel! We had a huge breakfast open approx 7-10am, and two free drinks with apps in the afternoon included in the price. Parking is included until 2pm on day of checkout, check in was about 3pm and checkout 11am. Our room was a king bed with balcony and river view for just $99 in February! It is walking distance from all the main shops and stores like the cheese haus, Prost wine bar, chicken dinners, fudge kitchen, coffee shops and more. It was an excellent one night winter stay and we enjoyed the hotel. I forgot to take photos of the room sadly. It was clean, had plenty of towels, had a microwave, fridge, TV, closet with hangers and full length mirror, good hot water, and shampoo, conditioner and body wash in pumps in the shower. The location of this hotel is pretty perfect. It sits right on main street. Within walking distance to shops, restaurants, brewery next door and the back of the hotel has a perfect view of the winding Cass River. The hotel and rooms were very clean. The hotel has cute balconies for each room that accomadate 2-4 people. Id recommend requesting the rear rooms. This way you have a view of the river. The hotel offers happy hour from 5-7, each guest receives 2 drink tickets and cheese/sauge plate. In the warm weather its nice to sit on the back patio enjoying your beverage/snacks while listening to Marv Herzog music. Our stay was during the covid pandemic and the hotel did a great job. They also have a list of restaurants providing delivery and carry out. And yes you can still get the Famous Frankenmuth fried chicken from their food truck! read more

Marv Herzog was a local musician and band leader who became good friends with Bob Drury, a hotel builder. The hotel opened in 2007. It's located along the Cass River that flows through the heart of Frankenmuth, Michigan. I've been to Frankenmuth several times over the years. What a wonderful small town to visit and enjoy the Christmas holiday season or simply to visit for getting away to an ol Bavarian style town. The Marv Herzog Hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the town and has become my favorite place to stay. They only have 38 rooms. So, it's not the biggest hotel. They have free underground parking available for your stay which is very convenient as public parking can be at a premium when trying to visit local businesses. Being centrally located, you can easily walk to most of the town's points of interest. Making my reservations online was easy to do. Review available rooms, rates and amenities. I enjoy getting the river side view. Rooms are very competitively priced. They don't have a pool or fitness center here, but you will likely be out doing a lot of touring when visiting Frankenmuth. They offer two free drink tickets for beer or wine daily from 5 to 7 p.m. They also quite a spread for a morning continental breakfast. The hotel staff, from receptionist to housekeeping and servers, were all friendly and willing to help with questions. Each time I have been here, I have been pleased with the service. I look forward to returning and staying again at this hotel. read more

Quant little hotel just up the hill. We had a room with a River balcony that we didn't really use much, so not sure it's worth the extra $ for us. The staff was very friendly and there was a hot breakfast. We missed out on the free drinks and appetizers since we were out and about, but that's a nice feature. read more

Just returned from another fun couple of days in Frankenmuth and staying at the Marv Herzog Hotel. We do enjoy this hotel and have stayed there I think four times now. We love the breakfast, the afternoon soiree and the free parking. One of the ladies, Marcy, who took care of breakfast two of the days we were there, was the friendliest worker we've met. She was enjoyable to talk with. I asked her where her tip jar was. She noted that they were discouraged to have them. However, the other woman working the other days we were there had a tip jar and wasn't half as friendly and her conversations were debating ones which I didn't really appreciate. Either they all have a tip jar or no one has one. That's just not right. My other issue was guests letting their doors slam. Perhaps when checking in, guests could be reminded to hold onto the door to let it close slowly. Even a little sign on each door might be a good idea. We heard doors slamming at any given hour. This hotel is in a pretty good location and I would recommend it to anyone considering a stay in Frankenmuth. Bring lots of money to help their economy because there is plenty of shopping. read more

Our family enjoyed this hotel over the last weekend. It was everything a great hotel should be. Check/in was easy, smooth, and without incident. Room was very clean, and had everything we needed. We never heard our neighbors, or noise in the hallway. This hotel is literally the right amount of distance to be in the smack middle of Main Street, but not in the loud section. The light reception at 5:00 was just the right touch, and variety of snacks. Wine and beer were good. All the staff we came in contact with were friendly, and helpful. All of the charm and none of the kitsch of Frankenmuth. The Marv Herzog is a lovely place with friendly people. The rooms are very comfy with excellent king beds with lots of pillows, jacuzzi tubs, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker and balconies featuring river views. We quite enjoyed the amenities and everything is so clean and looks pretty new. You get your own parking space in the downstairs garage which was nice with the holiday craziness that is Frankenmuth in December. The other bonus here, as Lauren pointed out, this place does not attract the loud kids that most Frankenmuth hotels do. You can relax with adults for the most part and get away from the crowds. The full breakfast is good with lots of items to pick from and a nice dining area. The evening happy hour between 5pm and 7pm with free beer for James and free wine for me (two each) was a nice little touch with the pretzels and other assorted nibbles. If you are not a drinker they also offer soft drinks and lemonade. If you want more drinks (you lushes) this place is right by the Frankenmuth brewery, enjoy. You can stumble back safely.. All in all a nice little getaway. read more

Spent a night here with my wife celebrating our anniversary. The hotel was nice and cozy. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was nice and clean with an outside balcony overlooking the main street of Frankenmuth. It was a perfect spot for us to get away as a couple. As a dad of 3, I probably wouldn't stay here with kids. There was no pool, hot tub or anything else to keep the kids busy. read more

Parking is below the building, free wi-fi, friendly staff. Room was clean with a nice small balcony. We were allowed a late checkout at noon which was nice to go to Bronner's early before the tour busses hit there. Only drawback for us was NO POOL. A few weeks ago, my mom and I stayed here for the night. I had no idea about this place. I've only stayed overnight in Frankenmuth one time, which was for a wedding. I don't know how I grew up in Michigan and never stayed overnight here. I don't even recall much of the town except Bronner's! That's how long it has been! The hotel is in a perfect location downtown. It's really cute and very small. I think there are maybe 24 rooms? Each room has a balcony, either a view of the river or the street. The hotel is very clean, including our room. The balcony is very small. Although the room can accommodate 4 people, I'd say only 2 can fit on the balcony. It was perfect for us though. They offer free happy hour drinks from 5-7 (2 per person). It's pretty basic- beer or wine. They offered the Frankenmuth Pilsner on draft. We enjoyed our drinks on their brick patio that had several tables, and Adirondack chairs. In the morning, they have a free breakfast until 10am. We made it with 5 minutes to spare and there was plenty of fresh food. They had a pretty good variety too. Eggs, sausage patties, biscuits & gravy, oatmeal, waffles (make your own), breakfast potatoes, fruit, bagels, and more. Staff was very friendly. She made sure we were well fed before she cleaned up. The only drawback is that the walls seem to be very thin. I could hear the alarm clock and phone from the room next door. However, it won't deter from staying here again. Such a wonderful hotel with great perks and a VERY friendly staff. They have convenient parking and the location is central to everything in town - we walked everywhere. There is no pool, which means most of the people staying there were adults vs a ton of families and kids. They have a great warm breakfast - eggs, sausage, potatoes, biscuits and gravy and all the other essentials you would expect. They also have a kick back hour where you get 2 glasses of wine and cheese & meat spread to enjoy for free every night. Booked this hotel last weekend. Arrived on Saturday at 5pm, tried to check in but was told my reservation was for Sunday. I know, without a doubt, I did not book Sunday night. I checked the confirmation I received from the hotel and there was nothing on it stating the dates of my stay. The clerk at the front desk said that not only do they NOT have any rooms to offer us, all the other hotels in town were totally booked! As I was standing there trying to figure out what to do, a couple arrived and tried to check in. They were told their reservation was also for Sunday night, not Saturday. They also insisted they definatly booked Saturday night-not Sunday!! What the heck???? I think this hotel must overbook its rooms, hoping some do not show or cancel. I called to make a reservation on Friday morning to stay on 09/27/19, our wedding anniversary. I called again a while later to find out what time check in was. During that call I was told that I did not have a reservation. I informed Rebecca that I spoke with her at 11:27 that morning and that she made the reservation. She found the reservation, but she had entered it with an incorrect spelling of our last name. We arrived at the hotel and checked in. Rebecca was waiting on us and gave us our room keys. Upon driving to the parking garage and unloading our belongings we were surprised to find out that neither key worked. Luckily another patron walked up and his key worked. So, we rode the elevator with all of our gear and stopped in again at your front desk. Kimberly made us keys that worked. Saturday morning I wanted to buy two of the custom growlers you sell. David waited on me. He said the first attempt at running my card had failed and that he needed to run it again. VERY reluctantly I gave him my card and warned him that this had better not appear on my statement twice. It did. $25.42 is on my statement twice; both showing as pending. Of course I called as soon as I arrived home and spoke to David about it. He assured me that one would eventually be removed and one would go through. As of this writing both are still pending. As I am sure you are aware, this means that those are funds your company has reserved that I cannot use. Luckily it is a small amount and does not inhibit my daily life. Too many problems for a one-night stay... UPDATE 10/02/19: Contacted hotel via their web page 3 times and have received NO response. As of this time, one charge went through and the other is still pending. read more

Arrived at 1pm to see if early check in was available and unfortunately not, but knowing that we had arrived you think the staff would have taken precedence over making sure our room was ready in a timely matter. Nope not the case, came back at 4:15 pm to check in and room was not ready (check in was at 4pm). We were told it was going to be at least another 45 mins, and we were more than welcome to "hang out" or come back. Yeah not off to a good start to our vacation. Fortunately the Spring Hills Marriott right across the road has rooms available and were more than accommodating. Don't waste your time with the Marv Herzog Hotel this place is a joke! read more

We loved our stay at the Marv Herzog Hotel! -It's right in the middle of everything! We could walk almost everywhere including the Frankenmuth Brewery (2 buildings away), the St. Julian Wine Co. tasting room, the Grand Traverse Distillery shop with its tasting counter, & much more! (Notice the alcohol theme here.) -It doesn't have a pool! Do you know what this means? No kids! People with kids stay at the hotels that have pools and water parks. Woot! -Marv Hertzog music is piped through the lobby where memorabilia is also displayed. It put us right in the spirit! (We brought home a Marv Hertzog CD, a great beer drinking soundtrack!) -Each day, we enjoyed a FREE beer & wine reception from 5p-7p. We were given 2 drink tickets per person per day. The reception also had "snacks" that were more like dinner including baked potatoes and soup. -We enjoyed the breakfast buffet, which was included in the price of our room. -The hotel was super clean! -We chose to have a room facing the street so we could watch people walk by as we sipped beer on our balcony, but we also used the large communal patio facing the river. Our wedding was a couple weeks ago and both of our family sides were not from The frankenmuth area. So, of course a lot of the family members stayed at this hotel... Including us, the bride and groom. Friday night after our rehearsal, my family came back to the hotel. The front desk ladies were awful! My family was treated very poorly and was told they would get "kicked out" for being loud... When they were not! The following morning, (MY wedding day) I had my family complaining to me about the hotel lack of customer service. I stepped downstairs and asked the front desk lady to please consider the fact that my entire family is staying at your hotel and that we will be all coming back together around 11... Since again, I was threatened that family members would get kicked out if we were too loud "NO second chances" --meanwhile I am looking around at this hotel and it's probably a good 50 years old, walls clearly have not had any updates. A mouse could squeak and get kicked out of this hell of a hotel! After being super polite to the front desk lady, I stepped upstairs to get my wedding makeup done... When I get a phone call from the HOTEL manager... Again on MY wedding day!!!!! The manager asked if "I had a problem"... I had around 30 people in my room, including a photographer, family members.. Everyone asked why the hell the manager is calling the bride the day of her wedding... You guess is as good as mine!! Anyways, I explained to him my bitter taste I have towards the front desk ladies for being so rude and yelling at my family members who traveled miles, states, and even different countries to share in such a special weekend with me. The manager had NO sympathy and continued to explain the hotel rules with me.. Even though NO one complained in the hotel about my family, the hotel had to follow protacal in case someone would complain (NEVER did this happen the whole weekend.. Since the entire hotel was my family) I then started to get upset, why is this guy calling me on my wedding day. I nicely told him I had to go... The hotel rules was NOT needed on a phone call on my special day. My mom was so super upset that she went downstairs and stressed her dissatisfaction of the hotel manager to the front desk lady on the fact Of the manager being rude to the bride the day of her wedding! When my mom asked to talk to the manager, he was "busy"... Both families were VERY disappointed in this hotel and still bring it up all the time! It's now a joke in most conversations. People spent $189 to stay one night but was threatened to be kicked out without warnings?!!! Who does this? Don't stay here. Rude rude rude!!!! Do not BOOK a hotel block with this hotel! read more

Pretty basic hotel, but probably one of the better places in Frankenmuth. One of the cons is that the one small window in the door is only covered by small blinds and no fabric covering, allowing for ample light in the morning on the lakeside, even though it was an overcast morning. The breakfast was a pretty decent selection. It was in a pretty centrally located part of town and the rooms had a good view. I would recommend this place. read more

Stayed at the Marv Herzog one night recently. Almost four stars. Pros--Nearly new, impeccably clean boutique hotel. Friendly staff. Lovely terrace for watching the river, a park, and the German spires of Frankenmuth in the afternoons in good weather. Design elements incorporating the history and music of polka legend Marv give this hotel a distinctive feel--you're not in just another chain. Every room has a balcony. Nice hot breakfast. Absence of noisy kids a definite plus. Spacious lobby and breakfast areas. Cons--We reserved a jacuzzi room, but were assigned to the street side. There were no remaining jacuzzis facing the river. Desk clerk moved us to a river-view room but didn't tell us it was no jacuzzi and didn't adjust the bill until we pointed out the discrepancy. (But then did so immediately.) Rooms are a bit dark due to only one floor-length window in door leading to the balcony. In good weather you can leave the door open, however, and in daylight hours there's so much to do in Frankenmuth that you're not in the room much anyway. Overall, a pleasant, comfortable stay with nice views in a good location. read more

Well I can't post anything about the stay since we ended up not staying. Multiple travel sites had rooms available here for $72-80, so we went in to check it out and booked it. Got to the desk and the rude clerk was like, we don't have any of those rooms available. We mentioned it is on multiple sites saying you do, and she didn't care. So we had to call the travel site and get a refund and go elsewhere. read more

I used to enjoy coming to this hotel, until yesterday. My husband and I went to sit on out balcony and watched our neighbors getting high. We went to the desk to complain, because of course now our room smells like it also. The front desk just went to talk to them and nothing else was done. So at a no smoking establishment I guess weed is acceptable. We ended up leaving on our anniversary because our room smelled like weed, and we couldn't even enjoy the balcony we upgraded to. We were the ones forced to leave because others seem to not care. After coming here for over 10 years we will never return again. read more
