Once I stepped inside I saw that there were wonderful vintage furniture items such as teak buffets, sideboards with coloured Formica drawers & doors. The proprietor said this look has become preferable to an all teak original. There was a beautiful circular teak coffee table which I could just picture in my loungeroom in Melbourne.......and yes they can arrange postage to Australia. I declined the coffee table of course but I left the shop having happily purchased some lovely resin cat and dog animal brooches instead.

We stopped and were delighted by the vintage styles on display and even more delighted at the price tags. Earrings are in the €18-40 range for example. They certainly have higher end fine jewelry too but most of what you'll find here is great for everyday wear. I was hoping to find a long silver chain and they had several to pick from, including one that was exactly (I mean EXACTLY) what I had hoped for. It's the perfect length, has beautiful vintage style and is sterling silver. At €125, it's a bargain as I saw a similar piece at home that was $700. My friend bought some lovely earrings as a gift and both of our purchases were beautifully wrapped. This is a great stop to pick up some wearable souvenirs, or gifts for that special lady. Even better, when you're done shopping you can pop into Taverne Henry IV right next door for some wine and congratulate yourself on your impeccable taste.

Walking along the Quai de Seine on a Sunday afternoon never in my wildest dreams imagining there…read morewas a place to shop for my second favorite thing in the world (vintage furniture, second only to vintage clothing), I suddenly noticed La salle des ventes du particulier and nearly squealed with joy. This furniture depot is packed floor to ceiling with everything from cupboards and coat racks to sofas and chandeliers. As I stepped inside, squeezing past shoppers marveling over the Chinoiserie armoires, 70s chrome and glass commodes, and green velvet armchairs, I could hardly tame my excitement. But as I continued along the narrow passageways examining the items that struck my eye I realized that not only were the prices high for the neighborhood, they seemed inflated considering the quality and aesthetics of the designs. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely worth-while pieces to be had here, but this is no bargain stomping ground, nor is it a carefully edited boutique, but rather a fun place to wander into if you happen to find yourself along the Quai de Seine on a Sunday and like me, enjoy oggling old furniture every chance you get.
