Had an absolutely delicious lunch at La Bamba Mtz. The menu looked like it was full of great options, but I went with one of my go-tos, a California burrito. The food was brought out promptly, and the burrito was HUGE! This was the perfect meal after working outside all morning, the ingredients in the burrito were flavorful and it was filling! This place is great! The food was delicious, service was friendly and fast. We got a steak burrito, California steak burrito and chicken tamales. Everything was fresh and flavorful. I try to stop in on each cross New York State trip, both ways! I love Mexican food, and I live in an area with many good Mexican restaurants that I consider authentic- not Tex-Mex, Italian style Mexican or diner Mexican. La Bamba Mtz has about the best food in any restaurant of any kind that I've eaten at. Says a lot about the place. By the way a 4/9/2022 review references a person who got Birria Tacos and wished there was cheese in them. That person should have ordered the special Birria Tacos with cheese, which is what I ordered off the menu today. read more

Was driving to CT from SYR and we needed dinner. My wife and I had heard about the Birria here and wanted to make a quick stop. The Good: La Bamba is not very far (about 5 minutes) off the NYS Thruway and it certainly blows away anything food wise on the Thruway. The menu is small, but you can tell they make their food with great care and quality. My wife loved the Birria Tacos, wished for some cheese on them, but wolfed them down none the less. I got the California burrito sans sour cream and it was great! Super flavorful and fresh. I wasn't really even hungry, but I ate every bit. The one guy we dealt with was super friendly. The not as good: unfortunately they were only doing carry out, I can't hold it against them during COVID times, but it would have been better not to eat in the car. It didn't slow us down though. The food wasn't cheap either $15 for the burrito and $15 for 3 tacos. I get it though that the price of everything is going up and I really didn't mind considering the quality and flavor being on point. Finally: I'd recommend this place over Moe's or Chipotle any day of the week. Luckily there aren't any options like that in Canastota anyway. If you are driving through the area and are craving some pretty authentic Mex...do yourself a favor and stop. read more

This is a small super casual restaurant with a handful of small tables. The food was authentic Mexican. Real corn tortillas that are soft, excellent chorizo and ground beef. Not saucy. The chicken fajitas were good. Excellent meat in them. The chips and salsa were different. Kind of like a thick pita chip and the salsa was puréed. Not bad, just not what you'd expect. It was about $5 per taco if you break it down. Food came out hot. I'd recommend this if you're looking for a good meal coming off the highway. read more

Hands down this is the most authentic Mexican restaurant in Central NY. We have been meaning to try this restaurant for months and finally had the opportunity. I'm so glad I took the time to get off of the Thruway in Canastota. drive up a couple of miles and stop in. We started with the chips and salsa, which were fried only minutes before we had them and the salsa was freshly made. Guacamole was outstanding. The perfect amount of seasoning to accompany the avocado. I had the Birria tacos which were seasoned well and so much more superior than the tacos I've had in other Syracuse restaurants. We also tried the tamales and the enchiladas - two other great choices. service was excellent, but this is definitely not the place to go if you were looking for a stylish date night out. The empanadas were good but huge, we expected two small one but they were the size of a taco. Of the 3 dishes this is the one I would probably not get again. The food was excellent! I had a quesadilla and I had to bring half of it home because it was so big. I had a hibiscus ice tea and my husband had a Coke. He had tacos and then we have a complimentary chips and salsa, which were so good! Homemade. We even bought a bag to bring home! Prices are about the same as they are everywhere else.
