I've been wanting to try Rio Grande for a while and finally had a chance. We were seated promptly and given menus. They brought us warm chips and salsa and our drinks and came back in a little while to take our orders. The food came out pretty quickly and was nice and hot. Service was very good even as it got busier during lunch. My 1/2 Enchilada Supreme came with one cheese and one chicken enchilada, rice and lettuce, tomato and sour cream. It was a decent size lunch portion. My friend had shrimp and rice and vegetables. She said it was cooked well, tasted great and took some leftovers home. The decor was colorful and fun. Next time we'll try some margaritas, they looked great. ( Sorry, we were so hungry I forgot to take food pictures) read more

They charged extra to my card without consent. Paid bill amount, plus a 9.07 tip, which was more than a 20% tip for what our bill was. They raised the amount charged to the card to give a $10 tip. Shady business practice. Will not be returning, suggest that others check their charges from here closely as well. read more

Another great margarita and to go order on a Saturday afternoon. It was Dia de los Muertos and some decorations at the bar and festive ballon's. True Blue Margarita ordered and sipped on while order was being prepared, I think the blue is my favorite at this establishment so far! They will give you a to go cup, as the margaritas are monstrous! I was greeted immediately upon entering and seated myself, drink and to go order both taken promptly. Short wait time for to go order, I do like to have the salsa and chips with the margarita but that came with the to go order this trip. I do think the tortillas were a bit stale this order. I ended up using the salsa with the quesadilla. Great quesadilla wish it came with sour cream, I would love to add jalapeños as well next trip. Supreme Enchiladas good as well, I prefer the chicken. Good amount of food for the price. The portion was plenty to share. I need to remember to add the Guac! I think the dinner meals should add the guacamole with order but I'll be sure to order next trip! Bon appetit! read more

Was in the town of Liverpool, in Upstate New York and decided to stop by here to get something to go. I ordered a shrimp taco salad with a side of rice, so why did, when we got back to the hotel room, I had a side of fries instead of rice?? It was too late to go back, they obviously wasn't listening too well that day or something. The shrimp taco salad was decent, but the mess up on the rice was a real disappointment. The inside of the restaurant looked really nice, and their wasn't too many people there either. And yes, I understand mistakes happen sometimes. Oh well!! read more

We found this place online as we were in the area. I knew it would be a hit as soon as I parked as there were a few cars, and people inside, even at 2pm. We were sat down promptly and given menus, water and salsa in a cute carafe with 2 separate bowls (I've never seen that before). They had a vast menu with a majority of Mexican food. I ordered my standard of a hard shell taco & chicken enchilada. The food was a 4/5 as the hard shell taco was a bit stale and looked store-bought but the flavors of the food were great! The decor was amazing! Each booth and chair had amazing carved decor. read more

MMMMMMMMMMM. The mucho grande burrito tasted like heaven on my taste buds. I ordered on DoorDash and it came with a bag of chips and salsa as well. Super amazing and scrumptious. Was not in store so did not see decor but everything was packaged nicely. Service also not needed. read more

Came here twice before. They have extensive menu and you're always started off with some solid tortilla chips and salsa. Margaritas are tasty and come in several different sizes so you can go as crazy or as conservatively as you would like. I tried the fajitas here before which were solid and last time tried the steak tacos; I tried to order 3 tacos alone but that wasn't an option; there was only a meal option. Additionally, there seemed to have been a miscommunication and I was charged for extra steak (not a big deal so just paid it) but there was definitely not very much steak (same amount or even less than my dining companion), but overall a solid meal otherwise. read more

Much better than the last time I was here. The guacamole azteca was absolutely delicious. It was so flavorful and had the perfect amount of acidity. The burrito verde was very yummy. The pork was a bit salty, but overall great flavor and the sauce was great! The daquiri wasn't great but others raved about their margaritas. Friendly service! read more

The el burrito verde was described as being filled with pork. It was in fact filled with pork and onions. Not everyone likes onions. Had I known, I would have ordered something different. On the other hand, the chips were crispy and flavorful and the cheesecake was delicious. read more

This is a great spot for Mexican food. I came here with my family, and I loved it. I can't wait to come back here. This is a former fast food place; the inside has been painted but it still looks the same on the inside. They have booths and tables inside with plenty of seating. I love their drinks, chips and salsa and enchiladas. My whole family loved their meals. I'm looking forward to coming back here again soon. read more

Rio Grande has solid Tex-Mex food. It's the usual menu of lunches, combos, and specialties at a place like this. My regular order of a taco, enchiladas, and rice or beans has been consistent on repeat visits. I was in a celebratory mood on my last visit and ordered a medium margarita, not knowing that meant a two-hands-needed bowl sized "glass", so the margaritas are definitely good bang for your buck. The decor is fun- the restaurant is full of bright, colorful carved wooden chairs and booths. Overall an ok place for what it is. read more

Definitely one of the top Mexican joints in the area. Chile relleno was so good! Chips & salsa were aite, rice & beans great, sauces really good too; even the regular tostadas were good! Not a fan of the ground beef though. It was just a flavor & texture you get over real quick, like Taco Bell "beef." Overall, a good place. Our waitress was amazing. She was very attentive & when she realized there was even a piece of onion on our plate, she made the kitchen make us extra food. Best waitress we have ever had. I would for sure go back to try other plates. read more

Solid food, I just wish the portions were a little bigger. If they were, this place would get 5 stars! The pina loca was my favorite, but kind of a small portion for $19. There was only one shrimp in the whole thing. All the dishes were yummy, I just left with space to spare in my stomach which is not usually the case after a Mexican feast. The star of the show was definitely the frozen mango margarita pitcher. AMAZING and tasted sooo fresh and like real fruit, not fake syrup! Good service and very accommodating of our group of 15 :) I don't live near Liverpool, but I would definitely return if I'm ever passing through again! read more

I went to Rio Grande for the first time a couple days ago and I must say this is the best Mexican food I've had in our area. I've been wanting to try this spot out for years and just never got around to it and I'm kicking myself now for taking so long. Upon entering we were seated immediately and given chips and salsa. The chips were good, warm, perfectly salted and the salsa was delicious. I ordered the pollo asado and asked for green peppers to be added and my husband had steak tacos. My pollo asado was delicious!! Perfectly seasoned chicken, the rice was good, and beans were delicious. Everything tasted very authentic which I love. This will probably be my last time ever ordering a trash can margarita though as this is the 2nd restaurant I've had one at and it just tastes like lime juice and Red Bull. I always have to order an extra shot to faintly taste any tequila. It's huge and got a drink that size and not to feel a slight buzz just isn't for me. Other than that 20s across the board, this is my new favorite Mexican spot! read more

We told the server not to worry about because it was our fault. He ended up bringing another plate of food just to make sure we had a great experience. read more

Hands-down, my absolute favorite Mexican food in the area. A good friend of ours recommended this place a while back and it took us forever to finally try it, but now that we have, we don't want Mexican from any other place. Lol. Every single thing we have tried off the menu has been fantastic. My husband loves the jalapeño poppers and their guacamole is fresh and so amazingly tasty. And if you do get the guacamole, they load you up with chips and salsa as well. Also very very tasty. I have gone with the Arroze Con Pollo as my entrée every single time and I keep meaning to try something different but it's just so good I end up going right back to it. My husband has tried a variety of dishes from burritos to chicken entrées and he raves about every single meal. If you're in the area I could not give this a higher recommendation. You definitely have to try it if you are in the mood for Mexican. read more

Great Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood! Food is authentic and huge portions. Service is great and makes you feel welcome!

I've eaten enough Mexican food in my life, from all over the south west, to have earned the right to call myself a bit of a snob. As such I've been left disappointed with most of my experiences in upstate New York. Imagine my surprise when I lucked into this little gem right in my back yard! The selection was impressive, the flavor and quality were spot-on, and the prices were extremely reasonable. What impressed me most, however, was the incredibly friendly and attentive wait staff! I recommend Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Tex-Mex in a casual environment. I will be a returning customer for sure! read more

It's average for Mexican food, nothing special but it is one of the best in Syracuse/Outskirts their of. Also my order was delivered so that does impact my review. I ordered the chimichangas for my meal 3 stars, because they were soggy by the time they arrived I did enjoy the rice and beans (refied). My hubby ordered the three enchiladas ( Enchiladas supreme) which we were able to make the 2 chicken (up charged of course) and 1 beef cause it was suppose to be cheese. He did enjoy his meal as well. for his Meal 3 Stars...We had to pay for rice and beans separate because they didn't come with the meals. This I find pretty unusual because most Hispanic/Latin Restaurants always include that with there meals as a side. We also ordered Churros which are the best I've had around the Syracuse/Greater Syracuse areas. I called to ask about some things before delivery and they were very nice so for that it brought my 3 Star to 4 Stars. I wish they would pack their food differently so that it would not get soggy upon arrival. I would recommend their food because there's not many places to get Mexican from (Due to the fact of the many Mexican places in the area not cooking the food as well - I have learned to just cook it myself from recipes online). I forgot to take pic of food but did take one of the Churro's. What was left LOL (You get 4). read more

Rio Grande, located in the village of Liverpool is a popular place with decent food. Located in an old Burger King, it fills up quickly on the weekends. I'm a big fan of Mexican food so I'll be honest, I'm not easily disappointed by Mexican restaurants. The Good: The atmosphere is lively and they can accommodate us even when we dine out with friends when our party is around 10. I love the salsa and queso fundito. My go to order is the Burrito Ranchero. There is usually enough to get me lunch the next day too. My daughter loves the tacos too. The Bad: They seem to go through employee phases. One week you will have excellent Latin-X service and the next week it will be Highschool kid. Not sure what is going on there, but it still wouldn't prevent me from going. My wife is less impressed with Rio Grande. She is a self confessed Mexican food snob and is very hard to please. Her biggest complaint is that it just isn't flavorful enough. Finally: For Syracuse it is a pretty legit Mexican restaurant. I've had better in Arizona, but I don't have to buy a plane ticket to enjoy Rio Grande. read more

I came to this place two days in a row! I love that they give you free tortilla chips and salsa. I also love that the tortilla chips are hot and in different colors. The salsa is served in a cute carafe and you can pour it into a plastic guac-looking mortar. There is plenty of parking in their private lot. There is indoor dining only. They have both booth style seats and regular tables that can be pushed together for larger groups. For birthdays, they sing to you and let you wear a fun and large sombrero. I don't think you get to keep it but I am not confident. They have margarita options and Jalisco sodas but do not offer agua fresas or horchata. For dessert, they offer a lot of cake options but only a few Mexican dessert options that included xango and soapapilla. The xango was like a cheesecake flauta dusted with cinnamon sugar. The other dessert options included pecan turtle cheesecake, lemon raspberry cake, black raspberry ombre cake, vanilla cheesecake, chocolate cake and more. The food items I tried were the guac appetizer, Santa Fe burrito, combination platter #3, and la bandera. La Bandera was 3 enchiladas that came with three colored sauces (red, green and white). My fiance said the chicken in one of the enchiladas was a little touch. The chicken in the Santa Fe burrito was juicy and saucy. It came with a side of sour cream, pico de gallo, refried beans and Spanish rice. The enchilada combination came with Spanish rice, guac, salad and sour cream. Combination number 3 was came with chile relleno, a taco and an enchilada. The chile relleno had too much oily cheese on it for my taste. I love their large portions, ample menu options, casual and festive atmosphere and Mexican music. If you ask for your salsa and chips to-go, they'll sometimes just give you a whole bag of new and fresh tortilla chips. read more

I wanted to love this place. I've heard so many great things about it. We ordered for delivery via DoorDash which arrived quickly, but my enchiladas were so bland, the only thing in them I could taste was the ground beef that tasted like it came from a can and the rubbery corn tortilla (I ordered flour). Our chips were burnt and my daughter's order was wrong. My husband ordered a steak burrito that was fine and the rice was enjoyable. I don't say any of this to be insulting; I've heard people rave about this place so I'm not sure if we caught them on an off day or what, but it'll probably be some time before we give them another shot. read more

Rio Grande is owned and operated by several partners who also operate Rancho Viejo restaurant in Batavia, in western New York, and another called Rio Grande in Warsaw , south of Batavia. The food at Rio Grande spans the range of Mexican cuisine, not centered on any particular region or cultural tradition. Almost every familiar variety of Mexican dish is on the menu: tacos, enchiladas, burritos, along with fajitas, gorditas, chalupas and more. There are also plates, with seafood, steak, chicken and pork. The menu also features desserts like flan, sopapillas and fried ice cream. The wife and I love Mexican, so we met up with my sister for dinner one night. It was a Thursday evening, and we were sat quickly. The restaurant is smaller, with its past as a Burger King, it's doesn't have a ton of tables, but enough to seat a decent amount of people. It's nicely and modernly decorated inside as well. We looked over the menu. Tons of choices, as is the case with most similar Mexican restaurants. I went with the Mucho Grande Burrito, my wife chose Pollo Madrina, and my sister went with Fajitas. Our food took a while to arrive. Not a crazy long amount of time, but longer than we'd expected. It also all wasn't delivered at the same time, as my wife waited about 10 minutes before getting her dish after my and my sisters were delivered, and my sister also had her tortillas delivered 10 minutes after receiving her fajita fillings. Our server was nice, but didn't check in or refill drinks often enough. The dishes being delivered at different times was also somewhat off putting. Everything tasted good though. My wife and sister both felt theirs could've used more of certain ingredients, but enjoyed what they had. Nothing blew us away, but definitely decent food that we wouldn't have a problem getting again. We also all got desserts. My sister got flan which she enjoyed and my wife and I split an order of Xiangas, which are tortillas covered in cinnamon and stuffed with cheesecake, then deep fried. Unfortunately, the cheesecake inside was still frozen when we got it. Overall, it wasn't bad, but also didn't blow us away. Wouldn't mind going again, but wouldn't go outta my way to get it either. read more

The service.. phenomenal! The food... Delicious! Food for you bucks...Abundant! This was my first time here with a friend, and just from the yelp reviews I knew it was going to good.
