We've tried these guys a few times now, & each time have not really been blown away. Between them charging high rates because of the preppy college, & the non-existent flavour. Came here for a quick lunch while on a business trip have been wanting to come here for a while since I saw it online months ago. Walked in and it's very comfy and a relaxed atmosphere. I had no problem ordering from the bar and it was easy. I have allergies and she checked with chef with no issues which made me happy. Ordered 3 tacos with fish and chorizo and the fish was crispy and great. With the food came out 12 hot sauces which are all made inside house (blueberry habanero takes the cake). Owner Jonathan Phillips was born in California, graduated high school in Cazenovia and lived in Colorado and Hawaii before moving back to Central New York. In Mad Tacos, named after the county (Madison) it calls home, he's hoping to capture some of that West Coast flair and taste, but in a less-flashy style he likes to call "East Coastal." With his restaurant's location on a busy road in a town--population 1,990--with few dining options, he thinks Mad Tacos is just what the area needed. Taco varieties include pineapple mango pulled pork, honey lime chicken, black bean corn jalapeno and beer-battered cod, a build-your-own taco option and a smoked pulled pork burrito filled with pork from Ray Brothers BBQ in nearby Bouckville. The wife and I have been wanting to try Mad Tacos for a long time, but we're rarely in the Cazenovia area. On a beautiful weekend day with nothing else to do, we decided to take the drive out and see where the day took us, and ended up at Mad Tacos. We arrived just a little after the opened on a Saturday, and there were already a few customers. We ordered at the bar, and decided to sit outside at one of the picnic tables on the patio. I ordered a Mad Burrito with chorizo, as I love good chorizo and it's hard to find on a lot of restaurants menus, and the wife went with a blackened shrimp taco salad. Everything was brought quickly and was delicious. The chorizo had a great, mildly spicy and smokey flavor. I tried some of their Mad Mac Hot Sauce with it, which was pretty mild in the heat department but had a nice tang to it. Wife loved her salad as well, large pieces of shrimp in it. The chips and salsa were good as well, the salsa was chunky like I like it over a more liquidy salsa that other places offer. There was only one employee working both the bar and service customers, and she was very friendly and helpful. Prices were comparable to other similar establishments. Food had huge portions and was freshly prepared. Lots of full flavor and we both had to get to go boxes.i got the burrito bowl with pulled chicken and Cajun cream and my gf got a special of the day which was a Cuban crunch Wrap. We were very tempted by the churros on the specials menu but we passed.My only issues were more at the location and less about the service. The tables and chairs were low to the ground with high stools which is tough for a tall guy like myself. All the drinks we got were from cans and coolers and I would say with alcohol on tap, having worked in restaurants its very easy to run carbonation through the beverage gun behind the bar and Sprite from a fountain tastes so much better. Salsa is the worst I've ever had.Seriously-store brand from Wal-Mart is better. Everything is covered in mediocre sauce, which they use to hide how crappy and bland the food is. Everything is supposed to be home made and tastes like it came out of a can. And the size of the tacos isn't worth the price. You can get more authentic Mexican food at Moe's. As for service, it varies. Some of the bartenders are great-but they don't stay so you get stuck with bad ones. Food has come out cold before. They have no options for online ordering which is a poor business decision. It's all through the phone, which if the bar is busy you won't be getting through any time soon. They also don't ever have enough people working to manage it. It's like whoever took over the place wants to make worse and worse decisions on how to run a business. I was very excited to try Mad Tacos for the first time as the Cazenovia and surrounding area doesn't really have a good Mexican spot. I had heard good things and expectations were high. On a recent visit, we ordered takeout. My wife ordered the crunch wrap and I went with a chicken quesadilla. We added the requisite chips and salsa and then threw in some questo blanco to boot. Before talking the food, I must mention...the interior is AWESOME. The ambience is very cool and is a place that would be fun to hang out and enjoy some craft beer. Speaking of craft beer, we picked up some to go that we hadn't tried before and were very happy to have that option. Our food took about 15 minutes to get after ordering which we thought was reasonable. We both enjoyed our main course - the quesadilla was well portioned, nicely grilled, and had a good mix of seasoned chicken and cheeses. My wife liked her crunch wrap, but felt it was a bit tough to eat due to the size/mess factor. The queso blanco was very good, served warm, and was a nice option to dip our food into. Our big disappointment was the chips and salsa. The chips seemed to be on par with store bought chips and it was unclear if they are made in house like many Mexican restaurants. The salsa also had a store-bought taste and was ultimately forgetable. For some, the chips and salsa set the tone for the rest of the meal, so in this regard, it ultimately left us both a bit bummed about our first experience. We have been here several times and have never been disappointed. My husband loves the fish tacos and I'm a huge fan of the chicken lime ones, but everything else is also truly delicious. I am a sucker for a good taco place! They recently added more items to the menu, and I did love their take on a Crunchwrap (taco bell style, except better). The staff is always friendly. We also sat down only to realize that above our table was a Bluepoint Brewery sign... I am a Long Island native and so that made me smile. We will be back for more tacos. read more

I have been to this place a few times and enjoy stopping when I am on this side of town. Chose to stop here the other day when driving through. The food never disappoints. I have tried both their burritos and tacos and have enjoyed both. This time my husband and I chose to get the tacos. If you get 3 you get to save a $1. Tacos are $4 each and sometimes they have a special taco that is $5. Chips and dip are $3 and Queso $2 more; chips and dip are ok but you can tell it's just Tostitos. All in all food was very good! There is a full bar inside. The way this place works is: you go up to the bar and order. You are given a number and you pick a table. The staff will then bring the food out to you. Second time coming here and I absolutely love it. As a Mexican, I'm pretty picky on my tortillas and these are awesome clearly homemade tortillas. The cod tacos are AMAZING. The slaw on top is so fresh. Also their beef tacos are delicious and I normally don't like ground beef tacos. Nachos are great too. I got them to go and they put all of the nacho toppings in separate containers so the chips wouldn't get soggy! I love that attention to detail. The tacos all have a good amount of fixings and they were accommodating if you didn't want anything that was supposed to be on it. Beer selection is great, tons of craft beers. Nice day for a motorcycle ride. Happened upon this place and we are so glad we stopped. Just a bit before 1 and there was a line. Totally understand why. We got the special pot roast taco...OMG, outstanding. Also enjoyed the pineapple pork and fish taco. Everything is made to order but the wait was nominal. Very nice place, kinda in the middle of nowhere. Their address says Caz, but it's not in Cazenovia proper. We were driving from SUNY Morrisville waiting to hit Caz, when I decided to check Google Maps. Had to turn around, as it's actually in Nelson NY. As far as the food? I had beef tacos. They were a little bland, as there was no salsa offered or on the side, or on the table for that matter. Tacos need to have a bit of a kick IMO. $6 a taco is a bit expensive too. 6 tacos and two cans of soda (for myself and 12 YO daughter) came to over $40. Ouch. read more

I really enjoyed this place! Surprisingly the chicken taco was my least favorite but the fish and pork were excellent! The prices were good and they have a large variety of alcoholic drinks. It's a cool, clean, fresh atmosphere and the service was friendly. I can't wait sit to go back and try more. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the parking lot was horrible. Not a huge fan. The chorizo taco had the most flavor and would order again but on a flour tortilla. The default corn tortillas on all of the tacos we tried were very tough. If going for grilled but pliable then they were very overdone, if going for fried and crispy then very underdone. That middle area is no good for corn tortillas. The crispy beer battered cod taco was not crispy, did not seem beer battered, and I don't think it was cod. The fish was mealy and dry. We stopped at Mad Tacos yesterday on our way to Stone Hill Quarry Art Park. There were 6 in our party and we ate outside using up the picnic table area. The service was good and the tacos were excellent. Pork, beef and chicken were available and the toppings were unusual. Apple, black bean and more traditional topping were available. Should be called Sad Taco... 10 dollars for 2 tacos about the same size you'd get from Taco Bell. corn tortillas were undercooked, the chicken and pork were indiscernible and tasted like canned chicken. The pulled "pork" tacos were doused with generic chicken wing red sauce and the chicken and lime had no lime whatsoever. Split the chicken quesadilla, fish tacos, shrimp tacos, beef tacos with my table... all were amazing, except I wasn't particularly a fan of the beef but that might just be my personal preference. This place is decorated so nicely and there's indoor and outdoor seating. It's very relaxed-- no table service, just walk up to the counter to order, take a number, and they bring it to you.
