Esther's Cakes N Sweets opened up around May 2023 in the space that used to be Casa Balzano (inside…read morea medical/office building). I went in to take a look and ended up buying a salted caramel brownie ($3.25) and a pink cookie with white chocolate chips ($3.65). When you buy anything pink in the shop, 20% of the sales go to Breast Cancer Research (not sure if this is just for the month of October (Breast Cancer Awareness month) or for always). The salted caramel brownie was phenomenal! So rich and buttery and filled with gooey salted caramel and chocolate chips. The cookie was good too, nice and chewy with lots of white chocolate chips, but the salted caramel brownie stole the show, for sure! Everything is baked by them, it is not one of those shops that buys stuff from Costco and resells them, lol, like some other shops in medical buildings. I was served by Esther herself, who is beyond lovely. She told me they recently opened 5 months ago and she's really trying to get the cafe more exposure through social media. She noticed my purse and told me she has the exact same one and brought hers out to show me. Immediately I knew this woman has good taste, lol. The cafe is super cute with a few seats to eat in. It's not too visible from the street, so just look for the medical/office building next to the Westgate Shopping Centre. There's free parking along the front of the building. The parking lot is actually quite large, but many spots are reserved for permit holders, so just look out for the signage. Esther's Cakes N Sweets is a gem. I'm looking forward to trying out other items.

You can't help but love everything about this place. The service was fantastic. We chatted with the owner for quite some time and shared some laughs. You walk into this unsuspecting bakery that is on the side of the road across from a chip stand and a sort of dépaneur style restaurant. It really does not look like much, the outside looks bland, nothing really special, to be honest. My fiancé and I stopped in and we're looking at the various sorts of sweet cinnamon and sticky style buns that they had. We got a couple and we're off on our way home to Ottawa. Now- the bad. We got home, prepared some evening tea to have with out treat, only to realize with our first bite that we should have gotten more, as in, much, much more. La Gare de Montebello) where there's also tourist information, ChocoMotive has a great selection of artisanal gourmet chocolates! (Btw, they also have a Transfair Canada license signifying they use only certified fair trade organic sugar and cacao. ChocoMotive also doesn't use soy lecithin. There's a window to view their chocolate production facility too! ChocoMotive definitely is also riding the "Pistachio is the new Hazelnut" trend, with their own Dubai Chocolate with different types of chocolate. Their Bonbons looked amazing, but after a week of non-stop overindulging decided to opt for 3 sugar free bars: Blueberry, Hazelnut and Pistachio Milk Chocolate. All three were sooo good!
