Made my first visit yesterday after my last salon just couldn't get my color right and were chronically late to appointments. Amber at La Boheme had researched my color formula beforehand, discussed a detailed plan for what we could do, and my hair came out looking incredible! Such a difference from the last salon. I'm super happy. This salon is upstairs in a neat old building, with beautiful decor and a very inclusive and welcoming vibe. It was busy with all types of clients and stylists. Highly recommend coming here, it is modern and very friendly. They will call you back if they don't have an opening to see what they can do for you, within an hour. And they really do. Also, I like that you can text message your stylist! That's awesome. I can just let my stylist know if I can get some highlights at this time during this day, and she/he will respond back. I saw Justin here, and he was amazing. Super funny and knowledgeable. I will be coming back when I am in town. His technique is different, which I love. I'm usually picky with my bangs and I had no complaints on when he trimmed it. He also made sure to remove my knots without making my length shorter. And he made sure to listen to what I wanted even though I wasn't sure of what I actually wanted. I will definitely be coming back and look forward to seeing Justin again. Enjoy! read more

I have been going to this salon for years and love it! You can just feel that this salon has a good energy which makes for a refreshing, relaxing experience! Melissa was my stylist and from the very beginning, she was very accommodating and friendly and it was clear her top priority was making sure that I was satisfied with everything about my appointment and how it went. The salon and its design was very comfortable and welcoming. Melissa used a beautiful balayage technique on my hair that ended up in a result that I could not stop admiring. It was exactly what I wanted! She gave me a lot of tips for maintenance that proved to be very helpful. How do I give zero stars? Terrible customer service. I bought a voucher on Groupon, called the salon and was told to call Justin directly. Justin doesn't answer his cell phone and his voice mail box is full. I sent him a text, no response. I called the salon about a week later, (he answered) and caught him off guard so he had to schedule an appointment with me. 5 hours before my appointment, he texts me (so he got my original text after all!) saying he no longer accepts Groupon. I don't know why it took me so long to come here, but I'm glad I finally did! I was referred to Amber by a friend. Her hair always looks amazing, so I finally asked who she went to. I contacted Amber by text, sent her a picture of what I wanted, and I set up an appointment with her for a week later (cos she was cool with working with my schedule). I was so excited/nervous cos I've had some... a lot of bad hair cuts from various levels of professionals. Once I arrived I was pleasantly surprised to see how cool the space was! It is located on the second floor, and the decor is very eclectic. The music was awesome too! When I walked in Radiohead was playing, and then it went into the Smiths and the Cure... Amber asked to see the picture again before I sat in her chair. We talked a little bit about the texture of my hair before she took me back to shampoo (they use Aveda products btw!) We talked about hair and music and how cool Norfolk is compared to the other cities (sorry guys, but it's true lol). Once she started to style my hair I had a big grin on my face because I could tell I was going to love my new hair style! She spent about ten minutes playing with it, but I didn't mind because it's just that cool! It's always a good sign when your stylist really likes what they did too! I couldn't wait to get home to show my husband my hair! I feel more like myself again, and that is awesome! The last time I really loved my hair was back in 2007 when I lived in Austin. I'm so glad Amber is here in Norfolk! Anyway, if you need a cool new cut and/or color (that's next for me!), you should absolutely go see Amber! I sent my wife to the salon as a graduation gift...thank God she will be wearing a cap on graduation day. This place is the worst salon ever! What an embarrassment for Aveda. My wife had her hair cut and colored by Justin and it looks awful! To start, the service was slow - 3.5 hours for a cut and color. His service was poor - He seemed more interested in texting than doing his job. And the color job is pathetic. She asked for an ombré but got an awful coloring, no fade. He must be an apprentice because I have seen VoTec kids do better coloring. Then when we called to get it fixed he had no time. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY!!! I first came here after receiving a groupon for a facial as a Christmas gift. Although there was some scheduling conflict after I had already made the appointment and I did have to wait a while before being taken in, the facial was very nice and relaxing. Crystal was very friendly and informative about the products. I came here a second time after purchasing a groupon for highlights and a cut and I made an appointment with Courtney. She was amazing. I absolutely loved the color she did and the cut was the most perfect cut I think I have ever received from a salon. Absolutely horrible experience that began at the time I attempted to book for services. I had a voucher on Groupon so I decided why not use it as a way to find a new salon. I do not have an issue paying over $200 to get my hair done but I refuse to pay it to an establishment that does not put customer service first. They have wasted my time and now made it impossible for me to get another hair appointment before tomorrow night. I have a function to go to and they waited until the last possible minute to let me know the Groupon they posted was posted in error and that I have to call Groupon to get a refund. I've never had a merchant do that. They should have honored the Groupon for the people that purchased them and taken the post down so no more could be purchased if it was put up in error. UPDATED 7/14/17-In response to yours- I did tell him it was a Groupon and he told me it was posted in error and that I had to call Groupon for a refund. The other stylist offered me a same day appointment when I was already busy and she was charging me full price and not honoring the Groupon. I'm not sure what her second offer was? I asked for a full foil and said I was only available after 4:30pm and her response was she had a partial foil at 1pm. The next Saturday appt she had open was in SEPTEMBER! that isn't a accommodation. Yes I did tell her I was irritated because they waited till the last min to tell me they weren't honoring the Groupon. It took over a day for someone to get back to me which was too late for me to schedule with a different salon so I could make sure my hair was done for my event that Saturday night. So you're darn right I was pissed off. I just found out yesterday Groupon doesn't want to give me a refund and they confirmed the salon never contacted them however, I have a convo with one of your employees telling me she did contact them. All of this could have been avoided had he just shut up and honored the Groupon that your other employee advised he posted and was expired. I'm not cheap I would have tipped him very well because I know the stylists lose money when they do the Groupon. The point is that wasn't done no one said here's who will honor your Groupon what date and time do you want. Why is that so complicated?! read more

I went here for the first time last month for partial highlights. I have had bad luck in the past with getting my hair colored, and spent a lot of time researching salons. I was able to get an appointment quickly and the receptionist was friendly - both over the phone and when I came in for the appointment. I saw Erika and she did an amazing job. I recently purchased a groupon and went to see Amber at La Boheme. The shop has a cool NYC loft feel about it with great music playing to set a fun mood. Everyone I encountered was friendly and welcoming. Amber and I talked about my color of blonde which was in need of correction. She thoroughly discussed options with me and gave good recommendations. She took her time and the color turned out beautiful. In fact, this is absolutely the best color I have ever had. As she styled my hair, she walked through the products she would recommend and way. The cut was exactly what I wanted with a few longer layers throughout. Amber is very knowledgeable and competent and her work is excellent. I made an appointment at this place for a much needed hair cut. A month of waiting for Courteney she cancelled on me 5 hours before the appointment. I took a day off for the appointment since she can't do weekends. I lost a day of pay day. Good thing Groupon refunded me because I never heard back from her after days of contacting them Courteney and the salon. I don't think they care enough to get new costumers or maybe they're too busy to hav new costumers. In Tokyo, I never had to deal with uncompetitive businesses like this.
