We used to enjoy eating here. It is basically a family restaurant living in a retired Dairy Queen. My family chose to dine here on Sunday for a late lunch. After being seated for nearly 5 min., a server brought complimentary chips/salsa. We begrudgingly dumped a lot of salt into the salsa to added some flavor. Some time went by without being noticed or even receiving a menu. We got bored with waiting and decided to drive downtown. Love Love this place. From South Texas, been looking for authentic real Mexican food. La Botana has it. Theyre chicken enchiladas with mushroom sauce are excellent, we also tried theyre breakfast plates (Huevos Rancheros) were great. Tortillas are delicious, wish they had margaritas. Have been here at least 5 times. Every time I tell myself, " it was just this meal, just a bad batch I guess"....no I was right all. Over priced for such small portions. Food on par with microwave Mexican food, matter of fact that is cheaper. Want real Mexican food keep driving down the road for good food. read more

I used to go here fairly often on the weekends for breakfast tacos but it usually took 15 - 20 minutes in line so when Fuego's opened, I started going there. They were a little faster and closer to home. Today, I decided to go to La Botana for a change. Let me say that the wait was terrible. I pulled in and had only 5 cars in front of me - it took them 40 minutes (to the minute) from the time I got in line until they got my order to me. When I got it, it was not even close to what I ordered so I had to wait another 10 minutes for the corrected order. 50 minutes to get breakfast tacos at a drive through? I knew going in it would be slow but...whatever - they cured me of being their customer. There are way too many good breakfast taco places in town to waste nearly an hour sitting in the drive through here. read more

Due to warnings found here, the first time I was going to swing by there for breakfast, I thought I'd call ahead. I called probably 20 times while getting ready in the morning, and no one answered. I went anyway, ordered two breakfast tacos, and waited. No biggie, didn't take long, and I was prepared to wait ten or 15 minutes (didn't take that long, probably 5-7). Price was reasonable. Tacos were... not great. Nothing I'd go out of my way for but hey, they're on the way to work. So I went by again. I didn't even try to call for this visit, but I apparently I should have. I walked in, there were no other customers at the register. Lady was entering something in the register, and didn't so much as look up as I approached, much less smile or greet me in any way. I waited patiently, then the phone rang, and she answered it, and took someone's order, after I, in the restaurant, had been standing there for several minutes. When she hung up the phone, she still did not acknowledge my presence or that of the person now standing behind me in line. She walked away to deliver the phone order to the kitchen, then stood and visited with other lady at that end of the kitchen. At that point, I left, and picked up breakfast elsewhere. If you're going to have mediocre food, I don't think you can afford to have non-existent customer service. Won't go back, even though I drive right past it every morning. read more

six months ago I would probably have given 5 stars but after BUYING Restaurant.com coupons and receiving deplorable treatment every time I ate there and used one, I wouldn't given them ONE star today. Not only did they give me the third degree each time I visited (like 3x with coupon that can be used once a month only - and I bought 15 coupons for more than $100) but they would deliberately not bring their freshest foods. I loved their fajitas but ours was warm and scrambled ... other tables nearby received hot sizzling fajitas. Fishy? Yeah definitely. The last visit they were SO rude that I lodged a complaint with Restaurant.com and will exchange my coupons for another local restaurant. I will NEVER go to La Botana or recommend them to anyone again. Buyer beware if you use a coupon! You apparently get what you pay for and their attitude towards paying customers sucks. They should be ashamed and management should do something about their staff ... unless they were the ones giving the bad karma - which maybe they were! ZERO STARS FROM ME. read more

So the food is very good, especially the Molcajete and the at your table guacamole. The service is unbelievably hit or miss. We have had excellent service and some of the worst service ever experienced in a restaurant. A lot depends on who your waiter is and who is bringing your food. On more than one occasion I have seen the food server (often not your waiter) asking people at each table is this was their food. The last time we were there they served all four of us the wrong food and when I said something they went and got the waiter, verified it was wrong then then picked up all the plates that were sitting in front of us and took them to another table and served them. I hope those people did not get my cold, I would recommend you try the food, but do not go if you are in a hurry. Breakfast is especially slow. I have had much better experience during lunch. I wish they could get their act together because we enjoy going, but I am done for breakfast and will only go for lunch if I have a long time to spare. Again, the food is good. read more

Being my first time today, I discovered their beef enchilada's have replaced my previous local favorite in town. What makes these stand out above the others is the meat filling. For almost all Mexican places in town, the ground beef is simply browned and slapped in a corn tortilla. Here you can tell the meat has been slowly cooked, well seasoned, and had a little cheese added to make the filling light and fluffy. Secondly, the corn tortilla is paper thin, soft and resembles more of a crepe than a typical corn tortilla. Out of 25+ Mexican restaurants I have tried in Brazos County, only about 3 others could brag about their excellent corn tortillas. The refried beans were also very good. In my opinion, there are only 3-5 places in town with good refried beans; theirs would be one of these. Disappointing though, and not to my liking, was the salsa. It wasnt green or red but more like a mix of tomato and tomatillo. read more
