Special and genuine. I'm Italian and I've been going to La Botticella (or "da Giovanni" as we call it) since my very first day in Rome, when one of my best friend (100% Newyorker) pointed it out to me. I immediately feel right at home, and now La Botticella is my safe spot in the city. Great location (right off Piazza Navona), great atmosphere, great people... Here you'll find both Italy and USA. And last but not least, they have the most reasonable prices in an area full of tourists trap. HIGHLY recommended... Even if you're not a Steelers fan lol! ------- Questo posto è speciale. The absolute best bar in Rome without question. I spent 4 months of my life living in the city--and after experiencing practically the entire social scene for the first 3 weeks, I found Giovanni & his spot and pretty much never looked back. For the next three months, I met people from all over the world here and considered it like a second home a few nights each week. Giovanni and Simona are the best, the prices are great, and the bar itself is as "Rome" as it gets. Located right off Piazza Navona, La Botticella sits at the heart of Rome itself and it an awesome place to bring friends and meet new ones. Also, I should mention, as a die hard Philadelphia sports fan, the whole "Pittsburgh" thing (Giovanni is a die hard Steelers and Pirates fan--as seen obviously throughout the whole bar) still never got in the way of me having a blast next to Jesus in the Steelers helmet at the center of the bar. read more

We were eating at Saltimbocca right a across from this place & noticed the Steelers sign & a few other clues that this place seemed to be geared towards attracting North Americans. We wondered if the owner was an actual Steelers/football fan or just targeting that market, which would be a turn off for us. My husband ended up striking up a conversation with the owner, Giovanni, and nope, he's the real deal! They talked sports for quite a while, as well as bourbon, etc. Giovanni gave us some tips on secret gems to explore while in Italy, and is overall just an awesome guy. This place made my study abroad period in Rome fantastic. It was our favorite bar and the owner was fluent in English and very fun and friendly to be around. The bar itself is a very lovely blend of authentic Roma mixed with a love for the Pittsburgh Steelers. If you're an American sports fan looking for a bar to watch football at - this is probably your best luck. This place will forever be one of my favorite bars in the world and I will continue to visit every time I visit Rome. Price wise - very reasonable, as I said - most of my time spent there was as a student, and I could afford it! La Botticella is definitely my top rated bar in Rome. I have been to Rome countless times and to several bars in that area, however, my experience at this particular bar was amazing. The service was fast, the servers were polite and inviting, and finally, what was being served was quality. I have had the chance to meet the owner Giovanni and, like all other aspects of this bar he made me feel right at home. La Botticella is a bar that i would definitely recommend if you're looking for a place to go that has great service as well as a fun and autheniic atmosphere. I first found this bar as a student in January 2004 and continue to think of it my second home in Rome. I know that to this day, if I go back, I will inevitably see someone I know if I hang around long enough... and I usually do. Giovanni, the owner, remains a good friend and is always a hospitable barman, who makes delcious dirty vodka martinis and mojitos!! The historic interior of la botticella, and the century old marble bar will take you back in time and make you appreciate architecture, while the university paraphenalia, which helps decorate the inside, will make you feel like you're in your local sports bar in the states. Was at La Botticella multiple times in 2007 and then again in 2014 on my honeymoon. Both times it was hands down the best bar we visited in Rome. Visited several times during both trips. Giovanni is a great host. He is incredibly welcoming and helpful. We are from Pittsburgh and my wife was starting to feel homesick at that point in our honeymoon, and he and his bar helped reinvigorate her for he remainder of our trip. His prices are surprisingly reasonable for anywhere in Rome really, let alone Piazza Navona, and he gave us a great restaurant recommendation. Definitely visit this place. This is a brilliant pub- very friendly manager and good to chat to. They have a few craft beers on tap as well as a huge selection of wines. If you like a real pub you will love this. It has an American Football theme thing going on which, as an Englishman, I don't really understand. However, it all adds to the atmosphere. We visited loads of bars, including a couple of specialist craft beer pubs in the guide books but this was the best. I was fortunate enough to have a free hour or so to visit La Botticella during my two days in Rome, and was happy to have done so. I'm a Pittsburgh resident, so I felt like I was right at home. It's decorated with not only Pittsburgh items, but a lot of Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic college pennants, etc. Aside from that, it has a nice selection of craft beers at reasonable prices. This place is really the best of both worlds - it feels truly Italian, but has friendly, English-speaking staff. We found this great bar on our first trip to Rome in 2009. As Pittsburghers we were thrilled to find a Steelers bar in Rome. Giovanni, the owner is great. He welcomed us in early. The location is amazing, right off the Piazza Navona. We came back this summer and actually stayed in an apartment a few blocks away. We stopped a few times during our visit. Giovanni even remembered my father in law Pat from 6 years ago. If you are in Rome, you must stop in for a couple beers. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. La Botticella was our home away from home while visiting Rome. It is known as a Penn State bar to Penn Staters around the world (and Steelers too). Situated close to Piazza Navona, most of our nights in Rome we found ourselves (along with many of our friends) coming back here to relax and unwind from the busy day of walking and sightseeing in Rome. We spent some time here in the spring of 2015. What an outstanding bar! The drink selection and prices are great, the service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere is not to be missed - particularly for American tourists. The owner, Giovanni, is a great host and really makes you feel welcome (he's also full of great stories, which he's more than happy to share). The was THE hangout for me and my college classmates when we studied abroad way back in 2004. Giovanni is an amazing owner, super friendly, and had a great selection of drinks. His location is perfect being right off the Piazza Navona, and is a perfect spot to just sit back, have a drink, and watch people while conversing. He's a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan (we won't hold it against him) and speaks perfect English if you're worried about a language barrier. My husband and I are in Rome at least once a year. We try to come here every time. Located just off Piazza Navonna, it's a wonderful combination of American and Roman experiences. It's full of memorabilia from American universities and sports teams. It has become known as the Steelers bar in Rome,but everyone is welcomed.It's not a restaurant, just a fun place to meet with friends and family at the end of a busy day. La Botticella is amazing! Giovanni makes everyone feel like part of the family here. My girlfriend and I travelled here and had heard so many good things prior to our visit to Rome that we added as a "must" on our list. We do not regret it at all. I've been going to La Botticella for over 10 years now, and it's still one of my favorite places in all of Rome.
