Just no! There is bare minimal effort here to make diners feel welcome. Our waiter had ZERO personality until it was tip time. I felt as if he was begrudgingly serving my table the entire meal. Wow. Nope. Ended up throwing everything out- seriously. We were afraid to get sick from it- the flavors were so off. This is not Mexican food. Everything was gross and the enchilada sauce (which was put on almost everything we ordered?) was SO GROSS- like not sure what the taste even was. Truly Inedible. Went here last night with a friend I came to visit from NYC- my friend warned me that there isn't much to do around here and the night life isn't exactly "popping" so well, we ended up here for dinner. I got the vegetarian trio- bean burrito, guacamole tostada, and bean enchilada. Gross, gross, GROSS. Seriously. Just bad quality food...Flour tortillas (not even good ones) covered in red sauce that tasted like ketchup and water. It's funny because the plate was like $13 which would have gotten me a pretty awesome meal in Manhattan. I DO NOT recommend this place for food. However, the 2 stars are for the margaritas I had. I've been to this wonderful family restaurant a couple of times and the food is authentic and delicious. Very reasonably priced -- don't let the fact that it's small deter you. This place is quiet and offers a great alternative to the bugger and more noisy restaurants in the area. The CB owners are hardworking and anxious to please. Highly recommend. We ended up here because everything was closed down and we were HUNGRY! I will say, being a bit of Mexican food snobs, I found La Cabana to be homey and delicious. The menu could use a little more variety to it, but I appreciated the "build your own" combos to get what I wanted. The tamales were DELICIOUS. The pork was savory. They have a great smokey homemade hot sauce as well. Server was very attentive. We ended our meal with churros, which at $1.50 a pop was well worth it. read more

I'm an NYC resident and have a home here. This is one of our favorite restaurants. Truthfully it hurts me to see negative reviews as the food is amazing, the service is prompt and the drinks are strong. We always have a wonderful time and it's very kid friendly. To start, I don't know how yelp gets the basic information, but Rene has been closing on Wed and Thurs for quite some time. I don't know how to change that on yelp. As so many have said, I can't understand the negative reviews. We have always had excellent food and service. I am particularly partial to the make it yourself 3 item combination. Not many places in the east offer combinations for some strange reason. Most of them have 3 tacos, 3 enchiladas 2 chile rellenos......how boring. What could be better than a taco, a chicken enchilada, and a chile relleno? All I gotta say is the people who panned the place are nuts. read more

Ok, so you've found yourself in Fleishmanns NY and you're exhausted from skiing on ice and freezing your balls off in the motel. Where do you go for nightlife? Well, this place. They serve up totally mediocre mexican food, but its the only game in town. Mega bonus points for the Saturday nite country/western live band dance party. The band is amazing and seems to know every single radio country hit from 1970--1989. Mainly townies, mostly over 65, the dancers put on a heart wrenchingly sincere show. read more

Yum yum yum. We come here at least once a year and the food is always tasty. We ordered margaritas which were delicious and an appetizer of supreme nachos. The nachos were different than what we remembered but still very tasty and good! I ordered chicken quesadilla which I can honestly say was the best I've ever had. My husband ordered the enchiladas supreme and said while they could have used more sauce they were delicious! We will be back again for sure! Wow, totally mediocre food? I'm amazed someone could post that after the delicious outstanding food I had on Sunday! I seek sopa de ajo out ever since I discovered it in Mexico, this garlic soup was unbelievable! It had a soft cooked egg in that ran all runny and beautiful and the broth was so garlicky with soft croutons that were heavenly. A big portion of gucac at a reasonable price (no $8 or $9 guac here, it's $5+). Our chili rellenos were great as were the refried beans. I can't wait to go back and try their steak & shrimp. Food taste wise - 3 stars. The meat options were limited to chicken or "meat" which is ground beef but with a bit of a taste and texture that seemed off. The chicken and cheese options were tasty. The first round of Margaritas were ok - made with a mix though. Husband ordered a 2nd one and was told it would take a while due to a very large group that had just arrived. Ok fine. A really sweet guy brought over a drink that DEFINITELY wasn't a margarita. We both tasted it and couldn't even figure out what was in the drink. The restaurant is sizable with lots of seats but apparently only one server and helper for everyone. Soooo it took about 30 minutes from when we finished eating to finally getting our check (after asking twice). We paid cash just so we could leave in a timely manner. Other than that snafu - the food was really good! Just be prepared for a bit of a wait on busy nights. read more

Don't go for food, I tried chicken enchiladas suizas No. 12 on menu VERY Sweet!1 and watery. Go for country music and Line dance which starts at 7 pm. Its a surprise in a Mexican restaurant. This is the restaurant which is open till 10 pm compare to other restaurant which closes very early. Margaritas are good!!! The service is very good !! Oh boy, I never write reviews but I feel like I owe it to everyone out there with hopes that they do not end up making the same mistake we did. After reading the reviews about La Cabana before choosing a place for dinner from our limited options, I thought to myself, "How bad could it be?" It can be so bad. I mean, really bad. This place is terrible. Not terrible in a, "Well, it's not authentic Mexican food, but it's covered in cheese and therefor still edible," kind of way, but terrible in a school lunch/hospital food way. I knew I should never have ordered the nondescript "meat taco," so I guess that's on me, but at $13 for the plate I thought there must be something to it. Wrong. It was horrible. It will go down on my list of the places I was most sad to eat in my whole life - right below that pizza place next to the National Zoo I had the misfortune of eating at when I was 9. We are from the D.C. Area and were staying nearby. We spent the weekend skiing at Belleayre. We needed somewhere to eat dinner - simple and fast. (The local restaurants were always super booked up with no availability) La Cabana was a perfect find after a long ski day. It was warm, relaxing, and great service. The food is tasty and authentic! The mole sauce is absolutely the best, and I always get an extra meal out of their $10-15 entrees, which I think are reasonably priced. The $5 margaritas are awesome. I don't understand the bad reviews. I like this place better than any mexican restaurant I've been to in the city. The owner is always there, and he's always friendly. Very disappointing! Margaritas were OK but everything else was tasteless. Gummy sauces on things it shouldn't be on. There are Mexicans working there but none eating here - its a sign. The food seemed like it was made for mid-western kindergarteners - no flavor, bland. The music may appease the locals but don't expect anyone else to be repeat customers cause it sucks. Showed up on a Saturday night, party of 11. They were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Sangria was delicious. Great beer selection. Food was really well-prepared, fresh and authentic.
