I was grateful for the extra bread on the table so I could soak up any renaming sauce. The lasagna was probably the best lasagna I had on our 10 day trip in Venice and I ate all the way from Lido to Mestre. The lasagna had a folded in cheese that had a smooth, velvet like texture and was amazingly rich. Great little family owned restaurant with an awesome staff. From the outside it doesn't look like much but the food is definitely worth stopping in for.

If you are visiting Venice and the northeast Mestre area, I would recommend it based solely on the authenticity factor, something missing from many of the taverns in Venice proper. The pub has a American theme throughout while respecting traditional Italian bar culture. Photos of the Blues Brothers, various bands, and sports (NHL) abound while classic American and British rock blast over the stereo. The barkeep is Claudio, who makes sure to take care of all of his patrons. The night started with the three of us drinking spritz, made of prosecco and campari. From there we graduated to a variety of wines and eventually beer. Throughout our Saturday evening, the staff tended to us with snacks and cichetti, all gratis. The wines are top of their class and all extremely affordable. The craft beer selection on tap is small (6ish), but superb, in fact the witbier was one of the best I've tasted, anywhere. Based on the service alone I can highly recommend Le Due Ochette. Make a good impression on Claudio and he might send you home with a bottle of wine. Add in the selection and neighborhood atmosphere, and the decision to spend your evening here is a no-brainer.

There was gorgonzola with strawberry, radicchio with brie cheese, pesto topped with an anchovie and mushrooms, mashed fava beans with pulp and mashed fava with goats cheese and a cherry. All really wonderful combinations. Our favorite were the radicchio and the fava/goat cheese. Surely something to recreate back home. Staff was very friendly, we felt very welcome here. And instead of focussing on Aperol, Select and Prosecco, it's mostly about white and red wine here. And they have an excellent selection of wine. Not all cheap, but definitely worth the money. We especially loved the Pinot Nero "Terre di Giotto". A brillant cicchetti bar. Definitely a place we come back to next time in Venice.

When I come back I'd love to try the osteria side as the portions looked impressive and fresh. For now, on the basis of the cichetti alone and the friendly staff, it's a solid four stars. It's also well-located for the station and the Rialto bridge so an easy place to reach from the main sights in the centre.
