She was walking us a little towards the back, but since it was my first time to Isla, I wanted to people-watch, so I asked about a table up front. As soon as we headed over, I saw why she passed it - it was right next to the saxophone player! Thank goodness his volume level was perfect! Just loud enough to be heard over the crowds walking down the 'lane' out front and the restaurant diners' chatting. But not so loud that we 3 couldn't chat. We loved it! Now these two can EAT - and love to try everything on the menu, whereas I tend to eat smaller portions. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were fantastic - huge pieces of shrimp, so good! The lobster mac n cheese is so good, I would have loved to bring a big container of it home with me! The restaurant is very busy but very clean and tables are well organized for maneuvering a quick trip to the restroom before leaving. Our server, Maylen was attentive and pleasant. The bar area, facing the street, looked like a lot of fun, I'll have to try it next time!

And the saxophone player walked up to them played for them. That looked pretty nice. We sat next to the bar and there were some obnoxious gringos at the bar while we were there... which is common on the north side of the island.

Traveling to Isla Mujeres in early February 2026, we wanted to try Rosa Sirena's for dinner based…read moreon the many good reviews we had read. A reservation was easy to obtain via email and we were all set for a sunset, evening meal. We were warmly welcomed and promptly seated. The service was impeccable, the atmosphere pleasant with an acoustic duo playing mellow tunes in the background. Honestly, we were a little disappointed with the view that most reviews rave about. Our sever was knowledgeable and made several suggestions. We selected the Pepita Crusted Tuna for a starter, my companion had the fresh catch which was grouper, blackened with a side of the peanut sauce. I chose the Surf and Turf. For dessert, we shared the Key Lime Pie. Everything was beautifully presented, and quite artistic. The tuna appetizer was very good, but the main courses were frankly a disappointment. The creativity of the plate did not make up for the lackluster food. The steak was tough and poorly seasoned, the lobster was just passable but also chewy and not tender. The fish was not as well cooked as other restaurants downtown and again the seasoning was lackluster. The sides, lentils and mashed potatoes were just ok. The homemade Key Lime Pie was enjoyable but again seemed to lack a depth of flavor. If the food could match the service, presentation, and atmosphere then perhaps this could be one of Isla's better dining establishments, until then "the juice was not worth the squeeze."

There was live music which was very nice for the ambiance and the sunset. The bartender was really friendly and knowledgeable. Complimentary jalapeño bread ball was a nice touch. The pozole presentation was really nice and tasted good. The drunken shrimp presentation had a nice touch with the rosemary lit on fire, but felt it was a little lacking in flavor. The steak arrachera was really good with great smoked flavor. I would recommend checking out this little hidden gem when in the area.

We drove our golf cart through the area where Maria's is, and because of the reviews we saw, my friends and I decided to give this place a try for lunch. Right off the bat, the best part of eating/coming here is the view. The area is secluded and you need to go down a small path to get to it. Once you make it down the little path, you'll see a beautiful little outdoor dining area that overlooks a pool and the beautiful ocean. The food was probably a 2/5 but the view was very nice and the service was good too, so that brought the score up to 3/5. My friends and I were looking for good, authentic Mexican food, which unfortunately Maria's is not. While we were sitting down, the waiter brought us free chips and salsa which were good. For my lunch, I ordered 3 shrimp tacos which were not cheap (at all) and came with like 3 TINY shrimps per taco. The photos they have in their menu are very deceiving and inaccurate. The flavor was ok but it was so plain and so stingy on the shrimp. I was really surprised (in a bad way) with this meal. My friend tried the chicken tacos which were better than the shrimp, but still nothing special at all. The shrimp ceviche was also extremely lacking shrimp. Unfortunately I feel like the food we ate at Maria's was the same as the Mexican food I would eat at an average Mexican restaurant in my hometown in the Midwest USA. All in all, since the best thing here is the view and the service, maybe it would be better to stop by for a drink rather than a meal.
