I dined here on Valentines day last month with my granddaughter and her partner. It was packed but we managed to get a table right away. The hostess was nice and got us in the door. She was walking us a little towards the back, but since it was my first time to Isla, I wanted to people-watch, so I asked about a table up front. As soon as we headed over, I saw why she passed it - it was right next to the saxophone player! Thank goodness his volume level was perfect! Just loud enough to be heard over the crowds walking down the 'lane' out front and the restaurant diners' chatting. But not so loud that we 3 couldn't chat. We loved it! Now these two can EAT - and love to try everything on the menu, whereas I tend to eat smaller portions. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were fantastic - huge pieces of shrimp, so good! The lobster mac n cheese is so good, I would have loved to bring a big container of it home with me! The restaurant is very busy but very clean and tables are well organized for maneuvering a quick trip to the restroom before leaving. Our server, Maylen was attentive and pleasant. There was a saxophone player while I was there. I tried the chicken tacos. They were good. There was a table with a birthday there and the staff brought a dessert with a sparkler on it. And the saxophone player walked up to them played for them. That looked pretty nice. We sat next to the bar and there were some obnoxious gringos at the bar while we were there... which is common on the north side of the island. read more

As a matter of fact, this was a random panic pick for brunch and it turned out to be one of my favorite restaurants that our group went to this trip. On the surface, Lola Valentina seemed like the super trendy, neon-lit Instagram-reel places that I normally avoid like the plague, complete with rope swings at the bar counter. Not to mention its location on one of the side streets in Centro that remind me of Little Italy where you have (mostly) men trying to pull you into their restaurant. Anyway - here were my favorites: 1. The hibiscus mango virgin margarita. Absolutely delicious. With alcohol, these would be deadly. (That said, the avocado smoothie that my friend ordered was terrible, essentially guacamole in smoothie form, with no sugar to speak of. Some honey or medjool dates added would've been heavenly.) 2. The fish tacos. If I come back to Isla Mujeres, I'd do an island fish taco-hopping tour. The version here was breaded, with a fantastic sweet dipping sauce. The only thing missing is the guac that they used with the chicken tacos. Really sizable portion. Chicken tacos were a close second, especially with both the guac and the peanut dressing. 3. Coconut shrimp. We had coconut shrimp at another place the night before and these blew those out of the water. Massive, with a decent amount of shrimp under the breading, and came with the most delectable rice that I could've eaten on my own. I have been to Lola to eat multiple times over the last couple of years. Always delicious with great service. The decor is very cute and intimate but the space is big enough for large groups. Breakfast- the yogurt bowl, green smoothie, coffee, juice, and breakfast burrito were all fantastic. Dinner - Mexican fondue, Japanese bowl with Tuna, Lola's grill filet, and Poblano fish were all top notch and delicious. The mashed potatoes and veggies that came with the grill item were amazing. I can't believe they charge for water. $3 for a Kirkland bottled water. Before we were seated we specifically asked if the had refried beans and rice and was told yes. The black bean purée and white rice was the farthest thing from authentic Mexican food. They are really good at getting you in the door but slow to serve. Would not return. read more

This has been our go-to for several years and we always loved the food and service. Unfortunately I have to review them in a negative manner. Seems like kitchen staff and quality has diminished. We had to send back a $70 lobster and a filet mignon. Both were sadly uneatable. We paid for our drinks and appetiser and left a nice tip for the staff. Manager was very apologetic and understanding. We hope to visit again in the future and hope they recognise the decline and recover this fine establishment. read more

THE LASAGNA! So good I got it twice in one week. Best thing ive ever eaten and I don't EVER order it from a restaurant, only make it at home. Love this restaurant, amazing vibe, service drinks. My friend got the tuna bowl and loved it and we shared the stuffed jalapeños, which were also great. I had an espresso martini and a dirty martini, which were also really good. Can't believe I've been coming to Isla for almost 12 years and this is the first year I have ever tried Lola's. Will be a regular for every vacation from here on out. read more

Great ambience, location and delicious brunch. We came here 3/3 times for brunch during our stay at Isla. Their breakfast burrito with soy option, stuffed Nutella pancakes and avacado toast are delicious. They also had nice relaxing piano music the first time we went. Luis, Karen, Julian and Manuel took great care of us and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great meal. We stopped in to grab a drink after meeting with our wedding planner on the island. This place is located on a busy street chock full of restaurants so you can really take your pick. The decor is unique, a little rebellious, and inviting. They were having a 2 for 1 margarita special and we were both going to order margaritas anyway (when in Rome) so we decided on the watermelon jalapeno. The drinks were visually pleasing as well as pleasing on the palate. I transitioned to a michelada afterwards which was also quite enjoyable. There was enough alcohol in both of those beverages that I had to pee twice while in the restaurant and very soon after leaving. Is there a better gauge? This gem is a must dining experience while visiting Isla Mujeres. I had the rock stone crab and octopus. Both dishes were 10/10. It was a cute spot and the service was friendly, but the food was mediocre and overpriced. We ordered the whole fried fish and ceviche, but it was nothing spectacular. Amazing dinning experience! Ordered the catch of the day fish in Tamarindo sauce with bed of rice over a papaya and cucumber salad. This plate was absolutely delicious and presented very nicely. Food presentation has changed since we were here last year. Prices have also gone up quite a bit. We had the very chicken and catch of the day. Very blah tasting. Seems to be the same story along 'Restaurant Row'. Food is sub par from years ago when the island wasn't overrun by so many tourists. It's good food but overpriced and touristy. I recommend going away from the north side for food in general. This place is westernized and you can get fresher and tastier seafood from the south side. Service was good though, and didn't take too long. In general if you want authentic, this is not it.
