This place was awesome. The food was fantastic. The service is excellent. And the atmosphere was fun. All at logical prices.

My response is in between "Yuck "& "ok" when it comes to the flavor of the food. I definitely rate this place below average bc my experience is always the same. The worst. We tried to eat at the breakfast place a few doors down but it was under staffed and not the friendliest so we walked down to Carretas. The music was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves at the table and when asked if they could turn it down, they eventually did. For about 20min and then it was back up. We watched our waitress chatting up coworkers and throwing napkins at each other while we waited to order our lunch. I had coffee when we first sat down and had to go to the bar to get a water after the food came and our waitress was no where to be found. I don't know who's running this place but EVERYONE needs training. Food was fine but not enough to make me return. if you like dining on a nice Sunday with a Fiesta style loud environment with employees who couldn't care a less, then this place is for you. Came here with my SO after a LONG morning of studying. We started with queso (and the free salsa of course) and chips. I had the Mariachi - a beef burrito, chicken flauta, and beef crispy taco. She had the tamales, which apparently came with a HUGE chile relleno. I ate most of my meal, and most of her chile relleno. She ate most of her port tamales, but I got a couple bites. Everything was above average, but nothing was exceptional. The service was lacking, and the prices were about right. We were satisfied, but not overly impressed. read more

I went there with friends on good recommendation. I had the enchiladas which i almost always get first time at a mexican place. They were not good at all, serve barely warm. The meat had the distinct taste of dried out of the bottle spice which you can tell because its so sharp and to me unpleasant. My friends had the fajitas and they were OK. Even though most people are less critical than me and did not complain, i detect very faint almost forced praise of their meal so I don't think they were that impressed either I had the 'strawberry' margarita which i am no big fan of but was going with the flow. SO SAD :(. I have been going to this restaurant for 5 years. The first 3 years I would go 2 to 3 times a week because it is close to my office. The food, service, and margaritas were great. Unfortunately 2 years ago management changed and they lost their best servers and bartenders. We still went often until the food quality just got so bad it caused us to have food poisoning a little over a year ago. We thought we would give it another try thinking it has to be better by now. OH HOW WRONG WE WERE. The steak fajitas must have been marinated in the Dead Sea. They were so salty there was no way you could eat them. I bet they would have floated in you put them in water. Thank goodness they have not yet messed up the Queso dip recipe but you will have to pay $4.25 for about a shot glass size serving. I kid you not. Prices are up and the quality and quantities of the food and drinks have reached new lows. Oh and don't think talking to a "manager" is going to help, she could care less about customer satisfaction. It makes me sad to have to write this review I do so with the hopes that the owners wake up and make LaCarreta's great again. We love the one in Metairie and Hammond they are still great places to go. But make no mistake this one is nothing like those. They must be owned by different people. read more

My daughter and her friends had this for dinner tonight. The girls immediately explain how their server said she couldn't give them change and kept some of their money, which made it impossible to give her a tip. She took it upon herself to write and tell them what a proper tip is on their receipt. Thankfully the girls complained to the manager on duty and got an apology and some of their money back. This is very disappointing to hear they were treated so badly. The last time they went out to dinner they over tipped the server for being nice & understanding. They all personally left the restaurant feeling like the server was just trying to steal from them since they were young. They said she was very rude from the start. read more

La Carreta's Mandeville is by far the best place to go for Mexican on the north shore. All the ingredients are fresh tasting. First off the essential chips and salsa are always a must "keep them coming". My favorite dishes are the chicken quesadilla with grilled fajita chicken and the steak fajitas by far the best place to go for either of these dishes and others like the diabla shrimp. The top shelf margarita is also an awesome beverage and there's always draft on tap another fav of mine. read more

La Carreta has been one of my family's go-to places for as long as I can remember. As a child, we took ballet class in the same strip mall and would frequent La Carreta for dinner at times after class. La Carreta is your basic tex-mex, but it's always fresh and flavorful. Don't expect anything crazy authentic or creative. Basics like tacos and enchiladas are good, salsa is tasty, and margaritas are refreshing. I eat her about once a week for lunch due to it being so close to my office. It is a average Mexican resturant. It is very colorful and play Mexican music alittle to loud. I ussally order off the lunch menu and it has not dissapointed. Fish tacos are a good buy. All the staff speaks english and are friendly. Restrooms are always clean and parking is fine. Carretas is packed pretty much every Friday and Saturday night--a lot of people on the Northshore adore the place. My husband's best friend loves this place so we go here a lot. I am routinely unimpressed and don't understand what all the fuss is about. The classic enchiladas are terrible--don't order them. The Potosina style ones are OK. The taco salad I ordered didn't come with any lettuce. My husband loves to get the steak and eggs on Sundays, and the flautas are good, so it's not a total loss, but I'm really not that impressed. read more

Visited the bar here for drinks and dinner. It was Thursday so, the bar was busy. Margaritas were half off; as well they should be, they were watered down. Service at the bar was slow, as she focused her attention on some regular customers seated down from us. Had dinner here this evening, and I was underwhelmed. It's your typical pseudo-Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant. The salsa you get with your chips is recycled Pace Picante sauce with extra cilantro thrown in for "authenticity." I got the chicken flautas, which ended up being taquitos (flautas are rolled flour tortillas with chicken, then fried; mine were corn tortillas). My husband got the chicken chimichanga, which was a very small, served on a big plate, with the rice and pico de gallo taking up most of the space. I didn't hate it, but I won't be back. read more

Very tasty food at a reasonable price point. I got Chipotle Red Fish. The vegetables were good and the fish was done nicely. My wife had the red fish tacos and was also impressed. The guacamole is also very good. We will come back. read more

Hand-crafted Margarita with lemon & cucumber - outstanding! Everything is really fresh, place is large and open so it can be lively and not too loud... Been here twice this month - on a sunny Saturday afternoon for outdoor drinks & snacks (sound system does a decent job of drowning out the traffic noise from hwy 190); and on Sat night for dinner - both visit had EXCELLENT service and really enjoyed the food. Alright, this place is basing everything off of their revenue. The waiters speak enough English to understand what you want but never enough to get the food right. Anyone reading this- do yourself a favor and go to Taco Bell or get a frozen burrito from a gas station. This establishment is quite possibly the worst Mexican Restaurant conceivable. One if my favorite places to eat! The service is great, the management is good, and so is the food! Usually guys my age dont get good service because a bunch of kids after school go there and eat free chips and water and never tip... But they know i tip respectfully and i get Exquisite service and food every time! I recommend this to anyone trying to get a good decent priced meal! Both locations Covington and Mandeville locations have issues. Both nights very slow very few dining. Mandeville location the waiter doesn't even bother to write down the order. We wait 25 minutes for him to bring out 1 out of 3 meals correctly. Happened in Covington too. Need to work on your service even when slow. The only reason they are getting two stars is because their margaritas are actually good. Not as good as Superior in New Orleans, but the Northshore comparison. Food is mediocre at best and we've given it 5 tries. The service has been sub-par, especially for call in orders. We did have one good waiter but it still wasn't anything special.
