we have had food from this place several times. the Mexican corn is excelled but avoid the chili relleno as a take out. it's a mess of slop last time and we tossed it in the yard for an animal like the skunk that hangs around to eat. previously it was good. but wheni called to complain about the mess I got a lot of lies from the manager. read more

we came here after a long day of biking and swimming at Lake Summersville. We have a TON of Mexican restaurants in NYC. NONE of them compare to La Carretta. The food was excellent. I had the tacos-chicken was delicious- not too salty( as most restaurants are). My husband has shrimp fajitas. I can't believe how generous the chef was w the shrimp-like 15 on the plate! I couldn't recommend this place more. Everyone was so nice and the food was great and we fed all 4 of us with dessert for under $50. My son left his stuffy behind and when I called they said they'd hold it for us. We were just thrilled with this surprise road trip stop. read more

I was confused by all the reviews, some being 5* and others describing different problems. We gave it a shot since it is accross the parking lot from the hotel and we've seen the place being busy. That's how you know some reviews are not honest (the bad ones talking about huge problems) Based on my own experience, everything was perfect, from the moment the owner hosted us, to the service, the food taste, huge selection of dishes and entire vibe. My wife and I ate dinner here in early August while we were staying one night at a nearby hotel. The food and service were excellent!! My wife had a fajitas platter, and I had tilapia with rice, beans, and salad. The fish was perfectly cooked, and everything was fresh and delicious, and the portions were generous. Also, even though it was close to closing time, all the staff were very welcoming and friendly. 5 stars for sure, and we'll definitely eat here again, as we come through here once a year around this time. read more

The only thing remotely delicious about this place was their fountain Mountain Dew, chips, and the cheese dip. That's it. I ordered fajita nachos with chicken and they were brought out to me cold.. Like they had been pulled out of the fridge and brought to me. So, they had to re-make it, and even then it still wasn't hot and I found mushrooms and other stuff in it that I asked to be left out. I had also found several black particles of something in my food. I was so upset because we were super hungry. I was surprised to hear that there was a non-chain mexican restaurant in such a small town like Summersville, WV, and even more surprised when I discovered that the food was delicious too! The salsa and chips were amazing...I could not stop eating them, even though I knew I had ordered a large meal. I love cheese dip at mexican restaurants and will judge a restaurant by their cheese dip. The cheese dip here was great - I ended up putting it on everything - dipping my chips in them and pouring them in my taco, on my tostada, on my tamale, and enchilada (I wasn't kidding when I said I ordered a large meal). Came for a birthday lunch with my best friend, two of her friends, and my boyfriend. Didn't get ANY menus until we asked, after a friend had gotten up to get them herself. Waiter asked if we were ready when we had NOT even been given a menu. He didn't write down orders, one member of the party received half his order until we brought it up, one member didn't receive the correct meal, but a more expensive one, and we had to have it corrected. We waited 20 minutes for another basket of chips. Waiter NEVER asked if we needed refills. They're not even busy. Manager turned and walked away after we asked to speak for him. Staff is pathetic. If there was a way to rate it at a negative number, we would!!! We specifically mentioned that we are vegan and requested vegetable fajitas. We even requested no cheese or sour cream, absolutely no animal products. Half way through our meal, we discovered there was a piece of beef in it. See posted picture. On letting the waiter know, we were told, and I quote: 'we make them in big pans and once in a while some pieces of meat do get mixed up.' And wait here's more. I spoke to the manager and he had an even more ridiculous response: 'I know man, don't worry, just one or two pieces of beef, but it was mostly vegetables'. And no apologies till I had to give them the dirtiest stern look I could muster in my state of shock. We left the rest of the meal as we didn't know what would be in the next bit in our 'almost vegetable' plate!!! They even charged us for that plate and everything else. I know this will come as a shock to most people, but La Carreta in Summersville is actually a very, very good Mexican restaurant! I know, I know it's in the middle of rural WV, but it's definitely one of the best restaurants in the area. My favorite is the carne asada tacos and any of the fajitas are great as well. The restaurant was clean and the staff adequate but the food didn't taste that good. Our lime margaritas were tasteless, like water with liquor added. The shrimp in our fajitas had no flavor.
