La Casa and I go way back. Way back. Being a Houma native and having family that still live in the area I've visited La Casa many, many times. It's known around town as "the place to be" as it has a bar area (separate from the dining area) that is always hopping and the restaurant itself is one of the more upscale Mexican places in Houma. I was here recently and had the Grilled Shrimp Nachos (shrimp, beans, monterrey jack and cheddar, sour cream, pico, bacon bits, avocado and chives topped with jalapenos. Holy shit...these were amazing. If you go here for nothing else go for these. I would not steer ya'll wrong. We also shared some burritos and what I love about La Casa's burritos (besides their hysterical names) are that there is no rice in them. Rice in burritos distracts from the fillings in my opinion. If rice is your thing, you can order a side of it. The Happy Burrito is filled with beans and ground beef and topped with cheddar and chili. The Sad Burrito is exactly the same without the chili and I guess it's sad because it's missing the chili. My favorite though was the Lazy Burrito-filled with beans and ground beef topped with enchilada gravy and cheddar. I am a sucker for some good enchilada gravy and theirs is really good. The service was good and the food had good flavor. The portions were seriously lacking. I ordered a burrito which requires you to order beans and rice at an additional charge. A tablespoon of rice and a tablespoon of beans would be generous in describing the portion I received. Something that typically comes with a meal at most restaurants. Listen to this BS. Ordered waitr from La casa in Houma. Order was delivered. I ordered a large bag of chips and a small salsa. The order came without the salsa. Got in contact through waiter with the manager Tracy to get a refund. I was told the order of large chips and small salsa for 4.75 only covers the chips. The salsa is complimentary. But I didn't get it. And it's on the menu. And they can't refund me because I did get the chips. So I asked, if I go to McDonald's and get a value meal with fries and they forget to give me fries, can they just say it's complimentary so they cant refund me? Silence. I grew up on La Casa. When I'd visit my grandparents over the summer, we'd go to La Casa after church and we all always ordered the same thing. I'm going to warn you, this is not authentic Mexican food, nor is it real Tex-Mex, it's something completely different, and as it appears, not too many people dig it. I, however, make it a plan to visit whenever I can. I love their hot salsa, guacamole, and burritos (lazy or happy, I can never remember which one until I look at the menu), which are huge, stuffed full of goodness and smothered in some sort of delicious (enchilada?) sauce and melted cheddar cheese. I thought maybe it was just nostalgia for me, but after my most recent visit, I still love it!! The hours are kind of wonky and service is not real great! read more

This establishment is somewhat racist! We were treated like a second class citizens by the wait staff. When they went to seat us they were going to take us to the furthest part of the restaurant. When we objected we were sat at a better table. The waitress took forever taking our order / finally we ordered our food. She also refilled everyone's water except ours and kept checking on the patrons except us. We had to keep flagging her down for water, extra napkins and our check. Let's talk about the food ... Mediocre at best! We were disappointed on the quality. The food lacked flavor and I had to add salt and pepper just to try to eat it. The salsa was merely heated stewed tomatoes then placed in a bowl. It is always my goal to write only positive reviews or say nothing at all but in this case people of color should know yo be weary of this place if you expect good service! If you go to a resturant for the decor, you would like this place. If you go for the food, you will be let down on their Mexican't cusine. La Casa is one of the 1st Mexican resturants in the Houma area, so you will find many locals that have ties to this restaurant and have great memories here, so that is why I beleive you will find mixed review for this restaurant. I grew up in San Diego California and moved here in my late teens. I believe I have a good grasp on mexican cusine. I also am a avid traveler. I have traveled all through Mexico and the World. Lets start with decor. The decor is beautiful and they have put good thought into the design of the resturant. The curb a peel is not the greatest. It is located on a back street road, next to a run down K-Mart and some older bars. Now lets talk about food. I have eaten here more than a handful of of times and I have never left thinking that was some good Mexican food. Most Mexican resturants will give you complementary chips and salsa. At La Casa do not waste your time, salsa is horrible and chips are store bought and not fresh. All the food is bland and not worth the prices. If you do eat here. I would suggest a Happy Burrito. This is the only thing I have ordered and have not been disappointed. On a good note. La Casa has a really good bar attached with good music on the weekends and service is always decent. The worst service ever. Even Management is mediocre. The servers attitude was awful. The manager came to let us know that if she was "rude," his words not ours, then he has already reprimanded her for it. Which as a manager it not something you tell the table. This place has become a joke. It's time to revamp, including possibly most employees and definitely management. Server never once took plates, or trash from the table. It honestly was a bad experience that took over 1 hr and 30 mins, something that everyone from this town knows is not normal. I recently stopped in here for a drink with a friend at the bar. We were promptly helped by the lady bartender and I ordered a margarita, on the rocks, sans salt. The bartender came back with our drinks pretty quickly and a menu I requested. The margarita was pretty good and I would go back for another, especially during happy hour when they are $5. Woohoo! I'll have two!!! Just kidding... not really. I was a little disappointed that there weren't very many favorable options small bites for the bar, just the restaurant appetizer menu. I'm being picky, I know, but I like happy hour menus with food on them. I didn't order any food; however... Despite my lack of enthusiasm for the menu, one very cool thing is that there is a complementary taco bar for guests who purchase and drink alcoholic beverages. I believe the rule is taken very seriously, as there is a sign posted to ensure enforcement. They have empty crunchy shells ready to be loaded up with beans, ground beef, and all of the appropriate taco fixins. There are also chips and salsa to munch on. I opted for the taco bar route. Let me tell you, this was a great idea for a bar. Being a lightweight drinker, I appreciated the little bite of food without committing to a 4 person appetizer. However, if this taco bar represents the restaurant, I was left a little disappointed. The beef was very salty and otherwise not very flavorful and the salsa was kind of bland. The bartender didn't really check up on us very much either. She took our order, brought our drinks and menu, checked to see if we wanted to order food, but didn't speak with her again until after our glasses had been drained for a while and we were able to get her attention to get the check. It appeared that she may have been the only bartender for the bar AND the restaurant, so I can be forgiving of that. Would I come here again? Sure, for happy hour drinks. Not sure I'd get too heartbroken if I never tried the restaurant though. read more

I was very disappointed in this restaurant. The only positive was the excellent service. The chips were mediocre and the salsa tasted like a warmed up can of diced tomatoes that had seasoning added to it. I ordered the Lunch Enchiladas which were accompanied by rice and beans. The rice tasted like Minute Rice that had been soaked in yellow food coloring. The beans were runny and tasteless. The Enchiladas were OK but the gravy was bland. I've never understood the love that this place gets until I realized that most people in Houma have just been deprived of good Tex-Mex food and definitely deprived of Mexican food. I've been going to La Casa del Sol since I was a kid. I remember the food being a lot better than it is now. Maybe it's because I've eaten authentic Mexican food since then, or maybe my young taste buds were deceiving me; who knows. I came back to visit family in Houma last year and took my husband to eat here since I remember the food being bomb. Well it left much to be desired, and that's putting it nicely. I agree with one of the previous reviews that said the "salsa" tasted like they heated up a can of tomatoes and added spices to it. I ordered the enchiladas, and my husband ordered the tacos. Seven minutes after we ordered our food, the waiter brought it out to us. I felt like we were at Taco Bell, but I really feel like Taco Bell is better. Both my husband and I's food came out cold so we didn't really eat it. Eh, it's a pass. It seems if you want okay "Mexican" food in Houma, then go to Taco Bell. read more

I probably have eaten here once a month over the past fifteen or twenty years. La Casa is a family owned and run business and has been a mainstay in Houma for longer than I have lived here (moved here in '90). So the decor is about what one expects, saltillo tile, nice rustic paintings and stucco type wall finishes. It can get pretty loud here on a busy night. Last evening it was quiet. We arrived at about 6:00 and it was maybe half full, with a couple of large parties too. We were seated immediately (and didn't have to ask not to be seated by the groups - our hostess took us to a nice quiet spot). Our server arrived quickly and took drink orders. Meanwhile, the chip guy came with chips and salsa. I'm not a fan of their salsa but I'm in the minority here. This is a somewhat thinner, warm sauce and I prefer a chunkier, cold salsa with lots of cilantro. But the chips are excellent: thin, light and crispy. We had queso and frijoles with the chips too. The queso is the usual fare, sort of bland and a bit thin but pretty good. Beans are by far among the best anywhere. I had chicken enchiladas with mole sauce (Enmoladas on the menu). My dearly beloved had the Happy Burrito, beans and rice. Her sister had the grilled veggie fajitas, rice. I'll say this: I may not like the salsa too much but the rest of the food is very, very good. Their mole is really great; smooth, rich, complex with a bit of sweet, a bit of heat and it complements the chicken and avocado very nicely. I've also had the Tinga burrito many, many times as well as the Carne Asada, and the deluxe nachos. All have been excellent. Their steak ranchero is also quite good. I'm not a drinker of margaritas, but the ladies think the "top shelf" margs are outstanding. Me, I'm a beer guy. Real beer, not the "lite" American water. But I was driving. C'est la vie. Overall, this was a good experience in a comfortable place where you can go as a couple or a party of 30 and get consistently good service and very good food. read more

I've been to this restaurant plenty of times. Each time I've never been greatly impressed. The complimentary chips and salsa are okay. Nothing to go crazy over. I personally like a more authentic salsa with fresh ingredients. This is nothing like that. Almost more of a chili type salsa, served warm, and tasting like mainly stewed tomatoes. If that's your thing, you'll love it. I'm a fajita kind of girl, but the fajitas here are nothing more than previously grilled chicken, served on a hot black iron skillet with onions and peppers. I remember one time getting the fajitas and the plate was sizzling, while the chicken was room temperature at best. I've gone to this restaurant many times over the years, trying to not give up on them and I finally found something I like....the Loaded Salad. It has cold fajita beef, chicken and shrimp and everything you think that could go in a salad. $15 for a salad is pretty steep, but with the variety of meats and veggies in this salad, I'll splurge. The last time my husband and I visited, a couple weeks ago, I believe will be the last time. We went on a Monday or Tuesday, around 8pm so they were not busy at all. The service was absolutely 100% horrible. Our chips and salsa were brought to the table about 10 minutes before my husband decided to go in the bar to order us a drink. After finally ordering and receiving our food order, I had to sit waiting for 10 minutes waiting to catch a glimpse of another server to get a drink refill to continue eating my meal. Totally unacceptable. If I hadn't been a server myself, our waitress would have received a 50 cent tip. I couldn't bring myself to do that, so a minimal 15% was left. Sorry La Casa. This place threw me into a depression when I first moved to Houma because I thought this was the kind of Mexican food I'd be facing in my Louisiana future. Thankfully lots of new places have opened up in both the authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex varieties. Good things: This place has really tasty margaritas. No doubt. Things have really changed here . This place used to be my favorite spot in Houma. Bathrooms were horrible, dirty, and needs a total renovation. Service wasn't the best either. I ordered the queso dip and it seemed as though it was diluted with alot of milk. I also had ordered beef fajitas , was not satisfied what so ever , the meat and veggies were stuck and burnt to skillet and very bland taste,veggies weren't sautéed much either .
